Allen West

Comment Up
If I had to take a bet on it, I would say that the majority of readers of The Palm Beach Post are Republicans. Even if that were not true, why does the Post and other liberal rags continually denigrate Col. Allen West?

Now the Post is blasting him again for his initial choice, Joyce Kaufman, as his chief of staff. If it's not one thing, it's another with the Post Editorial Board. If he says anything, they call it "ranting." According to the media, West is not allowed to have an opinion or to go against the status quo, the very reason why he was elected.

West wants Congress to get down to work and tackle the crisis at hand. You don't do it by taking weeks and months off. He said, "I am sure we both agree that the issues before us today require the Members of Congress to go beyond what has been the accepted practice in the past to meet the challenges of the future."

So, why does the Palm Beach Post think that is unreasonable?" It isn't and the voters said so.

Lynn I think the reason is because this guy is a whack and mentally unstable.

I am trying to get what you see in him and I just don't.

He's radical, radical right. I don't like extremes one way or the other. Neither do average voters.

I think they are dangerous on either side of the aisle.

PROVE IT! THE AVERAGE VOTER VOTED HIM INTO OFFICE.

Diana, it just shows that you have taken an extreme position--radical actually, the very thing for which you don't approve. Hell, people call me whacko all of the time when I write something for which they disagree. Just because someone or the liberal media resorts to Bull Shit doesn't make it so. Ask any Republican what they think about Allen West.

West received his bachelor of arts degree from University of Tennessee and his master's degree in political science from Kansas State University. He also earned a Master of Military Arts and Sciences degree from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer College in political theory and military history and operations. Now, that doesn't sound "mentally unstable" to me.

If he so dangerous, as you say, give me examples of that. I am sure that it all will be opinion.

Oh for heaven sakes. Dems helped get him elected. Is 55% of the voters unstable too? What a crock. What is your party affiliation, Diane?

Diana Demarest said...

The fact is, the democrats didn't show up to vote. That's one of the reasons why he won.

I do post-election voter data analysis as part of my job and the Dems stayed home this past election. In addition to which, that district has more republicans than democrats in registered voters.

The only reason Klein won (by a very small margin - 51% - 48%) against E. Clay Shaw is because people were mad about the war.

That was historically a Republican seat - Shaw held it since 1981.

When you look at why West was discharged from the military and forced into retirement for abusive interrogation techniques and his whacky claims during his campaign, I have to believe this guy is certifiable

One of my favorites was, "If you look at the application for a security clearance, I have a clearance that even the president of the United States cannot obtain because of my background."

Ridiculous and totally false!

I'm not saying I have any great love for Klein, I don't. I just think West is too extreme for the main stream.

To Anonymous: my name is Diana, not Diane and I'm a registered Democrat but that doesn't mean I always vote that way.

Personally, I would be willing to bet Diana a few drinks (or dollars) that if Barack Obama wins in 2012, Allen West will either be the Presidential candidate or the VP candidate in 2016. He is bright, photogenic and extremely articulate. I would also be willing to bet that he will receive a majority of the women's vote when he runs for re-election in 2012, something that a Republican normally finds impossible.

Diana may also wish to seek professional assistance as her radical dogma suggests that she is actually the one who is a 'whack and mentally unstable'.

I am thrilled to be represented by Alan West. He is an honest person. He has had a real job . He has shown himself to be a man who puts the wants and needs of others before his own. He GETS IT when it comes to being what an elected official should be- a servant of the people.Thank God for Col.(now Congressman) Alan West.

Anonymous, it is interesting that when one is trying have an intelligent conversation and one doesn't agree with you, your tact is to go on the attack and lob insults.

Based on your behavior, I would say that I am neither the radical one nor the one who needs the professional assistance.

At least I have a spine and post under my real name and not anonymously.

On a side note, Lynn I have been meaning to thank you for thinking of me and my family for the holidays. We received your beautiful Christmas card - thank you.

I hope you had a great holiday!

Message for Diana Demarest: Are you talking about LtCol West, USArmy (Ret)? He's a whack and unstable? How inciteful! Your degree is from where? In what? As an infantry combat veteran, I can think of no finer individual than the Colonel to represent us in Washington. Perhaps his efforts to have the successor to the do-nothing 111th Congress work more hours, for the people he represents and for all the people, is what tipped you off. If not, please explain. In the meantime, please refrain until you provide the basis for your asinine assumption. Me - Colonel, Soldier On!

@Joe Matthews:

I am happy you are happy.

This is what makes America the best country in the world. You see a fine individual, I see someone certifiably insane.

Yet, neither one of us have to worry about being killed by our government for saying it.

Furthermore, I don't have to refrain unless Lynn wants to boot me out of here. I think the 1st Amendment still exists.

I didn't realize that being an infantry combat veteran qualified one to be a member of Congress.

My bad.

Diana - you see someone as certifiably insane. Again, I ask you - y our degree is from where, in what? I'll remind you of the qualifications for membership in the House. 1) US citizenship for 7 years; 2) a resident of the state to be represented; 3) at least 25 yrs old when sworn in; and 4) never been disloyal to the government of the US.
Seems to me the Colonel meets those requirements. What say you? And again, please include facts, not opinions as a person's reputation is at stake. Joe

In his own words. It's all crazy talk.

Sharia infiltrating our country?
“I think one of the critical things that we must come together is that there is an infiltration of the Sharia practice into all of our operating systems in our country as well as across Western civilization.”

Comparing Obama to Hitler
"In 1930 there was a gentleman in Germany who took away private gun ownership, and you know what happened to that population." Following his characterization of Hitler as a gentleman, West said, "You must be well-informed and well-armed because this government that we have now is a tyrannical government."

On Acceptance of all religions:
“As I was driving up here today, I saw that bumper sticker that absolutely incenses me. It’s not the Obama bumper sticker. But it’s the bumper sticker that says, ‘Coexist.’ And it has all the little religious symbols on it. And the reason why I get upset, and every time I see one of those bumper stickers, I look at the person inside that is driving. Because that person represents something that would give away our country. Would give away who we are, our rights and freedoms and liberties because they are afraid to stand up and confront that which is the antithesis, anathema of who we are. The liberties that we want to enjoy.”

Liberals think Christians are Terrorists
“It is far simpler and easier for Liberals to say that Christians are terrorists, President Bush is a Nazi, Jesus Christ does not exist, and the defenders of their rights are "murderers". That way, they can hide behind free speech, a right provided by those who embody the very character traits and virtues which Liberals seek to destroy.”

On being a Right Wing Extremist
“The United States of American has stood for 233 years and for another 233 years will stand one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I am just honored to be here today with all of my fellow right wing extremists.”

On Moderation
“I have to tell you. I get very tired of hearing three words. I’m tired of hearing the word moderate and moderation. I’m tired of hearing the word outreach. And I’m tired of hearing the word inclusiveness. I think the thing that you have to do, you have to establish what are your principles, and you say to everyone else, this is where we stand…The last thing we have to do is get people to like us.”

Encouraging Violence
'You've got to make the fellow scared to come out of his house. Because the whole point is that, that's a thugary. You have in Washington D.C. right now. And if you understand Chicago. How many people remember that movie the Untouchables. Remember when Sean Connery said with Kevin Costner in that move, in that church, you got to understand the Chicago way. And if you understand the Chicago way, you got to understand how far are you willing to go. Because if they send one of yours to the hospital, you got to send two of yours to the morgue."

West’s Military hearing
In testimony at an Article 32 hearing — the military’s version of a grand jury or preliminary hearing — West said the policeman, Yahya Jhrodi Hamoody, was not cooperating with interrogators, so he watched four of his soldiers from the 220th Field Artillery Battalion beat the detainee on the head and body.
West said he also threatened to kill Hamoody. Military prosecutors say West followed up on that threat by taking the suspect outside, put him on the ground near a weapons clearing barrel and fired his 9 mm pistol into the barrel.
