Oil exploration off Florida

Comment up

Remember “Walkin Lawton?” He was always one of my favorites. He was our Senator from 1971 to 1989 and after that governor of our great State until he died in office. Back about 16 years ago there was a major oil spill in Tampa Bay that literally ruined miles of beaches, killing birds and other life. It took forever to clean up the disaster and Lawton Chiles was against any oil exploration in the Gulf. So was Jeb for that matter.

The Senate Committee’s Energy and Natural Resources is sending a bill to the Senate for a vote that allows drilling along our Gulf, 45 miles out from the eastern Gulf of Mexico and only 10 miles off the coast of the Florida Panhandle.

Governor Crist is now reconsidering his ban of drilling off Florida coasts closer than 125 miles off shore. Everyone should write the governor and tell him that our Florida beaches, our birds, our turtles and our environment are more important than gas exploration to make some oil company wealthy.

Yes, it's why we need a clean source of energy.

this is as bad as all the developers invading our state. Not sure which is worse.
