Murkowski announces opposition to Todd Blanche for attorney general, leaving confirmation on a razor's edge

Sen. Lisa Murkowski declared she will vote against confirming Todd Blanche as attorney general, joining Sen. Susan Collins and putting the nomination's fate in the hands of a single undecided Republican.

Murkowski, the Alaska Republican, posted her decision on X, acknowledging that Blanche had impressed her personally and made solid decisions as acting attorney general, then listing a series of concerns she said made confirmation impossible.

She praised his willingness to visit Alaska's rural communities and called him "decent and capable," but said the Justice Department's trajectory under the current administration left her without confidence that Blanche would serve as an independent check on executive power.

Her opposition lands at the worst possible moment for the White House. Collins, the Maine Republican, had already announced her own "no" vote. Sen. Mitch McConnell remains absent from the Senate.

NBC News reported that a third Republican defection would be enough to sink the nomination outright, given that Democrats are expected to vote as a bloc against Blanche.

on her reasoning and ultimate confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. This, without a doubt, will go down in the history books as the most brilliant speech ever heard on the Senate floor.

All the chaos from Leftists, Anarchists and Radicals that we witnessed at the Kavanaugh hearing will happen again if we allow Democrats to gain power. Violence or federalism seem to be the only two options we have today.  Do NOT let that happen. We, as a people, must believe in the rule of law if we are to continue as a republic.

Susan Collins and the ACA

In the new PPP poll (Public Policy Polling) of Republicans from Maine, there are some troubling results for Senator Susan Collins.

More than 60 percent of respondents said that they were less likely to vote for Collins in a primary due to her vote on Obamacare repeal, and 62 percent of respondents said that they disapproved of her job in the Senate. Further, only 28 percent of respondents would even commit to voting for Collins in a potential primary situation, and 55 percent said that they’d like to vote for someone who had LePage’s backing.

Curiously, a plurality of respondents said that they’d rather vote for Mary Mahew, the current Health and Human Services Commissioner, than Collins. Mahew is the only Republican who has actually declared candidacy.

According to Business Insider, Susan Collins said, "The ACA is flawed and in portions of the country is near collapse," she added. "Rather than engaging in partisan exercises, Republicans and Democrats should work together to address these very serious problems."

Collins voted "no" on all three healthcare plans proposed by the Senate GOP.
