Man Who Stepped In Front Of Oncoming Car Dies
A pedestrian struck by a hit-and-run driver in Lake Worth late last month has died from his injuries."The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office identifies the victim as Robert Vallaster, 39, of West Palm Beach. The incident occurred on October 25th in the 200 block of N. Dixie Highway. Mr. Vallaster passed away on November 3rd.
According to investigators, Mr. Vallaster was attempting to cross Dixie Highway mid-block just after 9 a.m. He was walking westbound when he stepped into the path of a northbound 2010 Toyota Camry. The sheriff’s office noted the Camry was traveling without its headlights illuminated at the time of the collision.
The car’s front passenger-side bumper struck Mr. Vallaster, propelling his head into the windshield before he was vaulted over the vehicle. The driver of the Toyota did not stop and fled the scene, continuing northbound. Mr. Vallaster, who came to rest in the outside lane, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
PBSO deputies later located the suspect vehicle abandoned in an alleyway north of 7th Street N, between North “E” Street and North “F” Street. The driver has not been identified. The investigation remains active, and charges are listed as pending."
