What the h is wrong with McVoy? He was the only holdout. pro-Benny's petitions garnered more than 11,000 signatures online. A “Save Benny’s” billboard appeared over Interstate 95, and dozens of protesters voiced their support. People wanted Benny's to stay and they got their wish tonight.
It really pains me that the owner of Benny's was treated so badly after being here for decades. Mayor Betty Resch and Commissioner Sarah Malega said pressing the restaurant for more money was poor form when inflation and economic uncertainty were on the rise, and when Benny’s is operating an older, high-maintenance building.
The Commission voted 4-1 last night (Commissioner McVoy dissenting) to renew the Benny's lease for 10 more years. Thank you to Commissioner Sarah Malega and Mayor Betty Resch for staying the course. And THANK YOU to the more than 12,000 people who signed our petition to keep Benny's. It made a difference! And thank you to all who contributed to the I-95 billboard encouraging people to sign our petition. We did it totally GRASSROOTS.
One positive thing that came out of all the drama is that the 3 commissioners who voted against the lease originally came to the realization, and acknowledged, how valuable our beachfront property is. Let's hold their feet to the fire to get the second floor space above Benny's in the Casino building filled with a tenant. That space has sat empty for 10 years! A loss of more than $1 million dollars (conservative estimate) to the city in revenue.
A short history on the second floor space: After the Casino was renovated and rebuilt, the space at the north end (upstairs and downstairs) was originally to be one space for one tenant. Johnny Longboards, a well-known, succcessful beachfront operator, wanted the space but the City gave them a hard time about features for their buildout and they walked. Then sitting Commissioner McVoy (same who voted against the lease last night) came up with the idea to split the space into two because, in his opinion, the upstairs was so special we could secure a very high-end, luxury restaurant such as Cafe Europe. TEN YEARS LATER the upstairs space sits empty. No restaurant. And now the City is using it for offices for staff. Our MOST VALUABLE waterfront city asset used for offices and storage for the city. If that's doesn't upset you, nothing will. Let's put some pressure on them to get this valuable asset working for the city to pay for sorely needed things that go unfunded. Heck, that money could have gone to a new pool. The City has shown it has no business sense over and over. And don't get me going on the golf course.
There are so many things that Erin could work on in Lake Worth, one wonders why she would put all of her effort into a run-down second-rate restaurant like Benny's.
When she ran The Mango Inn, everything was to perfection, any yet she supports that dump.
Mcvoid is a huge hypocrite! He is a Trump hater for one, bet he did not like RAV American Sunrise tv show from broadcasting from Benny's. He is another phoney with his climate change global warming push and lies in bed with the corrupt biden crime family regime, he loves all the lawless illegals wreaking havoc on the city, a huge hypo and hater, vote his butt out!

Your opinion...shows you have zero loyalty to a long time tenant at our beach...probably zero loyalty to anyone.
Why would I be loyal to a restaurant that I only went to once and was appalled by its condition.
