The Letter
I've been hearing from the progressives about the infamous letter--the 47 United States Senators (we have 54 Republicans and 44 Democrats and 2 Independents in the Senate) who wrote a letter to the Ayatollah. They, along with the liberal press, condemn the action and those who have come to this blog tell me that I am a Fascist, look ridiculous, agreeing to treason and use any written missile to annoy me.
The Ayatollah's response? He says that he is concerned about the fate of nuclear talks because the other side is "deceitful and back-biting." He said, "The letter by American senators indicates the collapse of political ethics in the United States." This is the ENEMY speaking here that is building its nuclear bomb to wipe out Israel off the face of the map and 85% of those polled believed that the 47 did something wrong. This is the same ENEMY that held our people hostage for 444 days. And now they want to talk? The first executive order that was officially recorded was issued in 1862. Obama has issued 194 executive orders going around Congress. What happened to the balance of powers?
Khamenei, who does represent an evil empire, believes that America is on the retreat and recently said, "The reason why we are stronger is that [America] retreats step by step in all the arenas which we and the Americans have confronted each other. But we do not retreat. Rather, we move forward. This is a sign of our superiority over the Americans." They know we are a paper tiger. The 47 believe that our leader is too.
Although Obama has constantly tried to make Congress powerless by going around them, there is hypocrisy on both sides. No one trusts Iran. No one trusts Obama when it comes to making peace with Iran and getting them to stop their nuclear bomb program and the world doesn't either. In 2007, when then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi thwarted President George Bush’s objections and visited Syrian President Bashar Assad, Democrats reversed their current rhetoric entirely and supported Pelosi. And Republicans? They were singing a different tune in 2007, too, and largely condemned the speaker for interfering – the stance Democrats are taking now. Source: US News
Comedian Jon Stewart said, “Clearly, the situational ethics of this country’s leadership is easy to catalog. But the real takeaway from this seems to be: No matter how evil our president or our Congress believes Iran to be, they would each rather deal with the ayatollah than each other.” I normally disagree with Stewart but he seems to have nailed this one. Obama should be engaging Congress and our Senate.
I firmly believe that you only can negotiate through strength. This weakness started when Obama drew a Red Line on the Syrians use of chemical weapons and then allowed them to cross it without any repercussions. We made a mess in Iraq and nothing has changed in Pakistan or Afghanistan other than losing American lives and treasury. We should not take any option off the table and let the Ayatollah understand that our winning strategy has always been peace through strength with conviction. We must get serious with an enemy that wants to wipe out Israel and democracy. I don't have faith that Obama can do that and neither does the Ayatollah, nor does the 47, nearly one-half of the Senate.
