Lake Worth CRA announces commercial Grant Program

All of a sudden we have $$$. How did that happen?  It can't be the bond?

Remember years ago when the CRA gave one-half million dollars to Publix, a billionaire corporation, to help them with incentives to move into the downtown. It was ludicrous and totally irresponsible of the CRA to use tax money for a corporation that was going to move there anyway. While the city residents deal with slum, blight and crime in the neighborhoods, Lake Worth is doing whatever possible to attract businesses here for the tax base. We learned about them wanting to spend $860,000 on Wi-Fi fiber-optics to attract businesses and poor folks.

The Lake Worth CRA has just announced the opening of its Commercial Grant Program. Property owners for new and existing structures are eligible to apply. Funds have been allocated to improve the facades and interiors of commercial structures located within the CRA district.

Deputy Director of the Lake Worth CRA Chris Dabros says, "The CRA Board allocated $150,000 from its 2016-2017 adopted fiscal year budget to be used for Commercial Enhancement Grants. This is a competitive grant program using TIF funds and is open to commercial property owners within the CRA District. Grant applications will be thoroughly reviewed by CRA Staff prior to making recommendations to the CRA Board for final approval.

Program deadlines are as follows:

New buildings/business may apply at any time between Dec. 1 2016 - Sept. 1, 2017.
Existing buildings/business may only apply between Feb. 1, 2017 - Feb. 28, 2017.

Lets see-the idiots sitting up front make it impossible to do business in Lake Worth due to making us the highest taxed city in the county. Now landlords are pricing their properties out of most reasonable business's reach. Then they take my tax dollars to try to attract businesses to Lake Worth.
Is anybody else just getting damn tired of NEVER being on the end of the free handout stick around here? All I see my tax bill, water bill, electric bill do is go up up up!I live west of I-95 (the ROLO neighborhood) and we get NOTHING from Lake Worth. No parks,no ballfields ,tennis courts, gym's or landscaped medians. As a matter of fact, since 2005 and the ridiculous Smith property all we've gotten is grief and an administration that seems to delight in destroying what quality of life we have fought for over here. And now we have Bat Boy Commissioner Scott Maxwell trying to destroy John Prince Park ! Can you imagine if this 24/7 noise and light pollution nightmare were proposed for the Golf course and Bryant Park? Well welcome to our Commission induced nightmare. Instead of fighting for their citizens ,this Commission spits on our side of town. We need district by district voting . Then maybe the city we are forced to belong to would care about us.Our district, district one, is ridiculously too big. It stretches all the way from Dixie Hwy west to our western border. If there is any money to our district, not one penny ever makes it west of I-95.
So in conclusion, stop giving away MY money to other people!

We need to demand that the CRA opens it's books to public inspection. Oh wait,THEY DON'T HAVE TO ! I suspect that we would faint if we really knew what was going on in the CRA. We would love to see who the money is really being funneled to.Maxwell ,Triolo and Amoroso have refused to expose the real dealings of the CRA. Anybody have a guess why?

They haven't had that much money over the past several years. Now that we are out of the depression and property values re starting to rise, they want to spend, spend, spend. How is that loan going on the Gateways?

Drunken sailors with holes in their pockets while they spend other peoples' (taxpayers') money without accountability.

Do any elected or appointed officials ever consider putting a small percentage of revenue aside for the inevitable rainy day?

I like Bat boy.

Why do we do this for business owners? What is the criteria? Do they look at their sales, budget, yearly profit and decide on giving them OUR money? Bottom line, I don't think they should give money to businesses that make huge profits and then keep their places blighted and expect us to pay to make them look better.

WPB lawmakers are an example to this joke, they gave all this money to improve the looks of the restaurant Havana on the corner of Forest Hill and Dixie, that place makes millions every year, they are not cheap and always busy. It makes NO sense.

I hate our government giving our money away, the waste in our government is sinful.

Thanks Lynn for shedding light on all this waste. Then the government wants to know what we do not trust them or respect them.
