The City of Lake Worth has written Chaz Stevens informing him of the new policy on invocations. Mr. Stevens already threaten to sue if he did not get in the invocation rotation. Stevens' lawyer wrote them back and the lawyer sounds about as steadfast (trying to be kind here) as his client in this matter. Chaz Stevens had previously intimated that a suit would be following. The tone of his lawyer's letter is, to be frank, wise guy New York style.
Here is the last part of their response to the city:
I believe it is entire (sic) fair to say that the possibility of any commissioner giving an invocation, or having the unilateral authority to nominate an individual to perform that function, grossly and blatantly flies in the face of the Constitution and is prohibited.
It would appear that in its hurried attempt to tap dance away from my client, and to adhere to Greece v. Galloway, the City of Lake Worth has stepped into a pile of Engel v. Vitale under your watch.
At the moment, that’s a (sic) much of your homework that I care to do for you.
Yours
Thomas H. Wright III, Esq.

After reading the letter, there were a lot of mistakes. I think they were in a hurry, not the city or perhaps the lawyer was twerking while composing.
I personally can't stand trouble-makers like this guy who obviously craves attention. However, having said that, you are right. Why should anyone fear anything he has to say? He is so insecure that he needs all of this undo attention. His lawyer sounds off the wall too. Carry on, chaz.
I tend to agree with the lawyer, having commissioners nominate folks to give the invocation or the commissioners giving them will likely exclude certain view points and faiths making the situation worse.
Better to just have a moment of silence and move on.
Well 11:15 I agreed up until that last sentence!
Invocations are important . They demonstrate a belief in a greater power . From their behavior, it is plain to see that Mayor Triolo, Commissioner Maxwell and Commissioner Amoroso believe that THEY ARE the higher power, period. Thus the unmitigated HUBRIS that led them to the belief that THEY would give the invocation.
Why not just give Chaz the same two minutes that any other belief got? The Mayor and Commission owe ALL BELIEFS their respect,as they are supposed to represent ALL people in this town.If they can't even do something as simple as that they need to resign.
Pam,Andy and Scott-thy name is hypocrite.
Ask Wess. He knows all about Chaz and how cool he is.
