Is Indiana discriminating against LGBT's?
Comment Up
In 1993, the federal version of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act was signed into law.
Read about Indiana's law.
Governor Pence of Indiana says that he wants to see legislation on his desk this week that makes it clear there is no discrimination towards the LGBT community.
We don't want people with religious beliefs treated like second-class citizens either. And now everyone is climbing on the politically correct bandwagon, even West Palm Beach mayor, Jeri Muoio.

American University students want to aid ISIS
This just shows you how crazy and liberal our campuses are today, producing morons. Insanity reigns.
Let's start with the liberal professors. Read about the disparity. Colleges are worried about guns on campus. They should be worried about nutty people supporting those committing terrorism.

Common Ground Church to hold Easter Services at the Cultural Plaza

The service will begin at 10am. Pastor Mike Olive, one of the most dynamic preachers I have ever heard, will give the sermon. If you're not a Christian yet, or if you are but have never felt attending church services were necessary in your life, you will change your mind after you listen to him. He has announced that John James will be with them that morning. He is the former lead singer of the Newsboys (at one time one of the largest christian bands in the country)
Easter is the most important holy day for Christians. The literal resurrection of Jesus is why there is a Christian religion to begin with. It's how we know that Jesus is the Son of God--He rose from the dead.
And for a little trivia: There are 2.18 billion Christians living in 200 countries around the world. This figure represents nearly a third of the global population of 6.9 billion. At the moment, there are 1.6 billion Muslims.

Important vote tommorow in Florida Senate
Politicians always seem to do what they want to do, not what the voters have told them to do. And this is true regarding Florida Amendment 1 that was passed by 4.2 million voters or (75%),
ensuring that keeping our drinking water clean, protecting our rivers, lakes, and springs, as well as
restoring the Everglades without any increase in taxes would be a law they could not screw around with. We voted and spoke and this vote was placed in our Constitution. The information below hit my desk this morning from Dave Cullen, Sierra Club and it is important.
The Senate will meet on Wednesday to vote on, SB 2500, the General Appropriations Act (the budget). The current Senate proposal provides only $2 million for Florida Forever, and the House is not much better at $10 million. But an important amendment that would provide $300 million for land acquisition under Florida Forever has been filed by Sen. Thad Altman (R - Brevard and Indian River counties). The amendment would also provide $15 million for state parks and $20 million for Kissimmee River land acquisition.
The Altman amendment is a chance for the Senate to fulfill the intent of the 4.2 million Floridians who voted for Amendment 1 by an overwhelming 75% because they know conservation lands are important for Florida’s future.
It is amendment number 24, barcode 995031, and it can be seen here: http://flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2015/2500/Amendment/995031/HTML
Everyone please contact Senator Jeff Clemens asking him to vote YES at 850-487-5027 or e-mail him at clemens.jeff.web@flsenate.gov and anyone out of the Palm Beach area, call your state Senator.
SB 2500: Appropriations
GENERAL BILL by Appropriations
Appropriations; Providing moneys for the annual period beginning July 1, 2015, and ending June 30, 2016, to pay salaries, and other expenses, capital outlay-buildings, and other improvements, and for other specified purposes of the various agencies of state government, etc.
APPROPRIATION: $80,424,571,670.00 Effective Date: Except as otherwise provided herein, this act shall take effect July 1, 2015, or upon becoming law, whichever occurs later; however, if this act becomes law after July 1, 2015, then it shall operate retroactively to July 1, 2015

Marco Rubio says, "Let's stand with Israel"
Friend,
It's outrageous how President Obama has been treating one of our strongest allies.
This month, millions of Israelis took to the polls to elect their representatives, and now that the Israeli people have made their decisions, it is time for the United States to continue to stand firmly with our ally.
Unfortunately, the Democrats' boycott of Prime Minister Netanyahu's address set a dangerous precedent. And the President's actions since the election have been irresponsible.
We cannot allow Israel’s enemies to think that America’s commitment to the future security of Israel is not as strong as it once was.
Netanyahu's address reminded us of what kind of threat a nuclear Iran poses to Israel, as well as the rest of the world.
But even with these warnings, President Obama plans to continue moving ahead toward a bad deal with a country that is responsible for countless terrorist acts and human rights violations.
It’s unfortunate that the Obama Administration currently treats the Ayatollah in Iran with more respect than the Prime Minister of Israel.
That’s why we need to continue to send a strong message that the United States STILL stands with Israel, just as strong as ever.
Will you lend your name? If the Democrats won't stand with Israel, let's show them that you will.
Proud to Stand,
Marco
P.S. Do you also think the Obama Administration is treating the Ayatollah in Iran with more respect than the Prime Minister of Israel? We need to show Israel our support. Click here to Stand with Israel today.

Support Maier on Casino proposal
I commend [Commissioner] Ryan Maier for adding the “Cancellation of the Invitation to Negotiate (ITN)” item to the Lake Worth City Commission agenda at his first meeting. The discussion and vote that took place was timely.
I support Maier’s proposal to cancel the ITN due to the inclusion of the word “expand” in the contract. Adding that one word mixes need with want.
Maintaining and leasing the vacant second-floor Casino space is a need; however, adding commercial space to the beach complex is a desire.
I hope the commission will go back to the drawing board so that the city can focus on renting the vacant Casino space.

Jeff Clemens - High on Hemp
A Senate committee unanimously approved a bill last Monday to let Florida
farmers grow hemp for industrial uses in a wide range of products — but
not for getting high. Sen. Jeff Clemens, D-Lake Worth, said his
bill would create jobs and create a major cash crop. But he said the
type of cannabis used for hemp production is low in THC, the element
that produces euphoria for smokers, but high in fibers with uses in
food, beverage, cosmetics, textiles, paper, insulation and other
materials.

Iran Nuke agreement worse than feared
JERUSALEM (Reuters)
- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned on Sunday the
framework Iranian nuclear agreement being sought by international
negotiators, saying it was even worse than his country had feared.
Israel has mounted what it terms an "uphill battle"
against an agreement that might ease sanctions on the Iranians while
leaving them with a nuclear infrastructure with bomb-making potential.
Tehran says its nuclear program is peaceful.Read more... from Reuters.

There is a balancing act when writing a blog or writing to your Facebook page or other social media. The biggest challenge is our First Amendment, as free speech is what separates this country from many in the world where people are suppressed and extreme actions are used against them, even death for stating an opinion or speaking out. That is why Freedom of Speech is so important to me. There are many who come here to comment and those comments are weighed as carefully as I can scrutinize them, to consider what's acceptable, what may not be and if freedom of speech is being impugned in any way if I choose not to publish them.
Lynn's Little bit of Trivia has had a comment policy since inception. Because of the explosive politics in this city, I spend way too much time monitoring each comment. The basis for me in making a decision whether to launch or not derives from whether I believe the comment is truthful and is not a personal attack. Some slip through. It is impossible to catch all of them as this blog has had 33,199 comments.
I have decided to not accept any more comments on the N word issue, pro or con on the subject. People have pretty much made up their minds, thanks in some respects to politics, that someone is guilty or not guilty of the charge. Let's hope that if you ever have to be tried by a jury in this country, that the jury hasn't already considered you guilty based on no evidence other than someone saying you are.

King City, California to be booted out of the Insurance Authority?
There are ten cities in California that are members of the Monterey Bay Area Self Insurance Authority (MBASIA) in order to stabilize risks costs. All ten members have equal say
in governance matters — that works with Alliant Insurance Services to
provide liability insurance for southern Monterey County, among other
communities.
In February 2014, six members of the King City police department were arrested plus a federal lawsuit was filed seeking class action status alleging King City officials targeted low-income Latinos in a for profit tow and vehicle impoundment scheme. Source: The Californian
The MBASIA put the matter on the agenda for discussion on the possible termination of King City as a member. Susan Stanton, city manager of Greenfield made the right decision when she declined making a statement.

Tort: a wrongful act, not including a breach of contract or trust, that results in injury to another's person, property, reputation, or the like, and for which the injured party is entitled to compensation.
This is now what is happening in our city. A citizen is verbally being drawn and quartered and publicly assassinated because of an alleged use of the N word...no witnesses, no audio, no legal judgment in a court of law--it was all HEARSAY. And now there is direct proof of malice by her accusers.
This entire incident has been embellished beyond belief and even after the city manager took sides in this "he said, she said" and wrote some explosive e-mails, now we have a member of a city board calling for a demonstration at this citizen's property with John Szerdi saying that he will attend. This board member has gone one step further in his pursuit to malign her reputation and defame her, he is now interfering with her civil rights and her livelihood.
This is the group that wants all of us to get along. This is the group that blames everyone else for their circumstances in life and tells us that the roads haven't been fixed in 100 years. This is the group that condemned the Common Ground Church with that same city board member calling for a boycott of the Common Ground Coffee Shop. I for one hope legal action will be taken. It could be YOU next who is maligned on the front page of the Lake Worth Herald that was encouraged by City Hall on a statement that can not be substantiated. You see, in this country, things have to be proved--if not, you can get sued.
Innocent until proven guilty. There is, by law, a presumption of innocence, (the burden of proof is on he who declares, not on he who denies). Have we all forgotten our American principles and the burden of proof? We don't live in Syria.

Obama wants to end tax-payer funded sports stadiums
When a resident of the ROLO neighborhood was asked by Democrat John Szerdi why he wasn't voting for him, his answer was one word--"ballpark."
In an historic move, President Obama’s new budget proposes eliminating the longstanding practice by governments of forcing taxpayers to foot the bill for wealthy sports franchises to build, renovate, and maintain costly stadiums. For far too long, this shameless giveaway has left city budgets in ruins while showering the franchise owners with hundreds of millions in corporate welfare.
President Obama’s not having it any more. In a small article placed in his 2016 budget proposal, he called for ending tax-free government bonds for sports facilities, which have cost taxpayers $4 billion over the past thirty years.

It has been strongly suggested that Marco Rubio will announce his presidential bid on April 13 (Thomas Jefferson's birthday) at the Freedom Tower in Miami.
As Marco Rubio is a son of Cuban immigrants, what better place than the Freedom Tower, a landmark building that once housed Cuban refugees fleeing from the communist dictator, Fidel Castro. Read more... at the Miami Herald.
And what better venue than the Freedom Tower when Marco Rubio said on the Senate floor, “Let me tell you what the Cubans are really good at--what they are really good at is repression ... They have exported repression in real time, in our hemisphere, right now.”
There are many reasons why I like Marco Rubio but one important quality he always exudes is that of a leader who always keeps his cool making his points. The biggest debate among Republicans has been immigration. While helping to draw an immigration bill, he treated his opponents with respect. He never ignored or belittled them if they had a different view. It has been reported that he always enthusiastically engaged them with respect and candor. (Some of our Lake Worth commissioners could learn from this).
He loves this country and he is definitely a living example of the American Dream. Believing in freedom in the greatest country in the world, one in which has a set of ideals allowing prosperity and success achieved through hard work, if elected, he would be the same age as John Kennedy when he was elected President of the United States.

Hudson Holdings, the ITN and our Beach
Comment Up
Steven Michael of Hudson Holdings probably wasn't kidding when he said that the Selection Committee regarding the ITN issued by the city of Lake Worth would be decided at the end of this month. It sounded like he thought he had it in the bag--to be given the contract on a long-term lease at our beach complex. The city is now saying that there must be a public meeting (singular) before any commission recommendation.
We know what Hudson wants--he told us. And we don't trust this majority commission. Why should we? Look at their past performances.

Debbie – Please let her know the next meeting is March 31 but it is a closed negotiation strategy meeting (with just the evaluation team) under section 286.0113(2)(b)(2), Florida Statutes. Since it is exempt from the Sunshine Law, it is not posted. However, it will be recorded and the audio will be available on April 2, 2015.
When the evaluation team has a public meeting, the public meeting will be posted. More than likely we will try to make the notice as reasonable and varied as possible given the interest.
Thanks!

The Democratic Party and its Chairwoman Allison Tant are behind Patrick Murphy's bid for U.S. Senator and the Party has already been working on who will run for his Congressional seat. African American Pam Keith (with impressive credentials), from North Palm Beach wants to run but the Party has not gotten back to her.
Speaking of the Party Chairwoman Tant, Progressive activist Leslie Wimes said, "Of course, she's a racist. She had a chance last year to galvanize the base by being inclusive of African-American women, but she doesn't care. She doesn't think we're important. But, hey, she is what she is, she victimized Pam with shabby treatment, what else is new?"
People (other than liberals and Scott Maxwell) get tired of people using the race card for every excuse in the book.
Read about it... at Sunshine News.
Quote of the day - Scott Maxwell
Comment Up
all the while raising his voice and pointing his finger at Commissioners McVoy and Maier regarding Maier's request to cancel the Invitation to Negotiate that was set up originally by city manager Michael Bornstein without it coming to the Commission or agreed to in the Sunshine. The mayor referred to it as "secret." And that's the problem. For the Vice Mayor to constantly be disrespectful, not only to these two commissioners but the public as well by accusing them of being racists and liars, is outrageous.
Even former commissioner John Szerdi who suffered a resounding defeat only winning 37.39%, weighed in asking why the pool was not part of the original project. He was not at the meeting in the city chamber the day that city manager Paul Boyer negotiated our pool away over lunch to Greater Bay. Originally, Paul Boyer recommended that we NOT contract with Greater Bay but the arrogant commission in place back then did not listen. Retha Lowe signed the contract as she was sick and tired of that "football" being kicked around for 30 years. (Sick and Tired is an expression used by Lowe and now adopted by Maxwell).
Tuesday night, Szerdi was rude to Commissioner Maier and still visibly upset about losing his election. He compared Maier to a Cheshire cat saying that the rumor regarding our beach and Hudson Holdings was being "spread by the Cheshire." He doesn't understand why he lost. And Scott Maxwell has no clue as to whom is lying and who is not.
The Commission voted to put Maier's request to cancel the ITN on the Agenda. The vote was 3/2 with Triolo and Amoroso dissenting. No public discussion regarding our casino complex was going to be allowed by those two. The public had their 2 minutes to weigh-in (most did not know about this inclusion or even if it would be approved to add to the agenda) and they will have it at some publicly noticed meeting in the future before the commission decides the fate of our casino or approves of any expansion by John Szerdi's employer, Hudson Holdings.
- We're going to set this new commission off on the right foot.
- We're going to tell the truth when we sit up here.
- We're not going to distort reality.
- We're not going to massage what you think your version of history was.

Shanon Materio writes letter about campaign irregularities
Comment Up
On the day of the election, Shanon Materio wrote a complaint letter to the City Manager and the City Clerk of West Palm Beach complaining about Muoio campaign workers and other irregularities at the polling precincts. Gosh, some people don't know when to just calm down--

In the Sunshine
Comment Up
People come to Florida for its sunshine and overall great weather. However, there is one Sunshine we don't think about too often--our strict Sunshine law policy: Any discussion of public business by two or more members of
the same board or commission must be opened and noticed to the public.
As an example, if we had access only to the meeting after the vote of the Selection Committee on the ITN, we would not know of any of the reasons or anything about the others who answered the Information to Negotiate on our beach complex. Under our laws in Florida, we have a right of access to the entire deliberative process and it is a right that all of us take seriously.
Because we take it seriously and often times perception is reality, we filed a complaint with the Inspector General's office on what we felt was a possible/probable Sunshine Law violation--three commissioners driving to Tallahassee along with the City Manager in the same vehicle on what is an 11 hour drive. In the end, perhaps all of them traveled separately as I have not yet received the public information request. We do know that the Mayor and Commissioner McVoy were not in the vehicle.
The Sunshine Law does not prohibit advisory boards or commissioners from conducting trips provided that the board members do not discuss matters which may come before the board for official action. There is one exception--See Finch v. Seminole County School Board, 995 So. 2d 1068 (Fla. 5th DCA 2008) which essentially was about some school board members who were even separated from each other on a bus trip and did not express any opinions or their preference for anything coming before them and did not vote during the trip. This was ruled a Sunshine Law violation. We feel that our commissioners who rode together in the same van very easily could have committed a Sunshine law violation. There is not too many things to have conversations about in a drive of that length...talk about the weather? The kids? Missing all that camaraderie at Dave's?
Peggy Fisher, electric utility board member, was so concerned that we might have a "fuzzy" understanding of the law because the IG told us that there was no violation, suggested, as did the Vice Mayor, that we should have a presentation on Sunshine Law to explain that riding in a car together is not a violation whether it's for 4 hours or just around the capitol in Tallahassee.
Christopher McVoy and Ryan Maier both believe that commissioners are held to a higher standard. Maier said that "if inconvenience is the cost of an open society, then we welcome that inconvenience...it's about setting the bar higher and higher with each passing day for our city." Scott Maxwell has a different perspective. He said, "I've had it with the lies in this city. Have someone come in and explain the Sunshine Law...I won't put up with the lies anymore."
From the The Fayetteville Observer

MAXWELL: Pointing his finger, he angrily asks, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?
MCVOY: Pointing his finger, he answers, YOU, when you start calling people racists; you need to stop.

Maxwell had just finished reading Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals and got excited about dirty political techniques like tossing out the Race Card. All losers do it but they've been doing it for years.

Floridians split between Bush and Rubio
"The poll shows Rubio in good shape if he decides to run for the Senate
again instead of the presidency, with 52 percent saying they will or
probably will vote for him while 37 percent say they won’t or are
leaning against him. Rubio does very well with Florida Republicans as 87
percent say they will vote for him or probably will support him if he
runs for a second Senate term," according to Sunshine State News.

Lake Worth seeking grants for Park of Commerce
Another Channel 12 hot topic..."The city of Lake Worth is asking Florida lawmakers for a whopping $7.5
million, which will be used to attract companies and bring jobs in a
town with double digit unemployment." The Vice Mayor mentioned this last night saying that he was very excited, that he has been to Tallahassee twice now in the last few weeks to try and get grants for the Park of Commerce.

"...the biggest racists in town, in this room, have walked the streets, have talked about social justice and all the other people in this room have not seen the overt racism that has gone on in our city for years. Look at the western side in this community. You talk about environmental racism--why do you think there's no streets on the west side of town or the south end of town. I have been talking about infrastructure for 15 years...
The very people who shot down the Lake Worth 2020 Plan [the general obligation bond] are the very people and the biggest racists in town."

The Meeting from Hell
Comment Up
Tuesday night, Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell gave one-half of the voters the finger.
I am not sure if this was the absolute worst city commission meeting I have ever attended, but it is right up there in the top 5. Last night at city hall was the meeting from hell. It is clear that the Visionary Trio is madder than hell...mad about losing the election...mad that people are rejecting their "vision." After all, they have lost the last three elections. You would think that they would get the message. Last night, the trio lost their cool and common courtesy flew right out of the window.
It's bad enough when you defame a citizen who has not been tried in court and hang her in public and get your friends there to help you do it--have them put on a show...get them all riled up--and use a a former black commissioner and get her bent out of shape because she was led to believe that someone used the word "nigger" although not proven-- Black people shouldn't use it (Retha Lowe used it last night) if they don't want anyone else to use it. But to explode and appear as if you are about to have a stroke and call all the voters who defeated the bond "racists," is beyond words really.
When you are losing the argument, you resort to name calling and everyone automatically is a "racist." Maxwell even quoted Saul Alinsky accusing his opponents of using Rules for Radicals. He probably took one look at Cara Jennings and went "nuts." But it was he that fit nicely into RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. (Pretty crude, rude and mean, huh? They want to create anger and fear).
When you have the Vice Mayor tell the world that "We are going to set this commission off on the right foot," we all need to worry about this arrogance. How dare he. The voters, defeated their candidates by a wide margin. They are still in denial, still not listening and even loser Szerdi had to speak and give more excuses.
What will it take? There is only one alternative--change out this majority commission next year.

Christopher McVoy sounds off on "secret" meetings involving the Lake Worth beach
Comment Up
After much discussion about placing commissioner Maier's request to cancel the ITN and put it on the agenda for discussion, it was finally placed on the agenda last night by a 3/2 vote with Mayor Triolo and Commissioner Amoroso dissenting. In Maier's mind, it was an emergency for discussion and under the Rules of Procedure, the request to include can be the Friday before the Meeting. The mayor said that she hadn't had time to read it and Amoroso said that the Selection Committee of which he is a member has not made any recommendations on any proposal.
See Channel 12 video. McVoy demands more transparency. The word "secret" was never used when talking about the Invitation to Negotiate in September 2014 nor has the word been used since. There was also no explanation of the word "expand." Now we find out it is all under a cone of silence...everything is secret except what Hudson Holdings wants to tell the public which is, expansion at our Casino and build with a long-term lease thrown in.
The Selection Committee will meet on March 30. If you recall, this is the date that Hudson Holdings said it would know if their proposal will be accepted, only 5 days from now. The city attorney said that they must hold a public meeting before they make their recommendation.
“There’s been no public discussion, and no public input, and that’s completely inappropriate,” said Commissioner Christopher McVoy. McVoy takes the issue seriously, telling us the meetings, titled an “Invitation to Negotiate” or INT, need to be watched by Lake Worth residents. “There’s a certain amount of private enterprise and that’s fine but it’s a public park and anything that happens there needs to have plenty of time for approval or non-approval by the community.”

Pg. 5, Regular Meeting, 02/17/2015
Vice Mayor Maxwell commented that there was mismanagement of City revenue in 2005 - 2009 when it had mega-millions of dollars in undesignated funds which should have been spent on infrastructure--it was not the current administration responsible for past mismanagement. This commission likes to believe that it is the savior of Lake Worth---tax the people to save them from themselves...and save them from another pothole.
FACTS:
2005-majority commission: Romano, Burns, Lowe, Egly (did not always vote with the majority), McKinnon
2006-majority commission: Burns, Vespo, Lowe
2007-majority commission: Clemens, Vespo, Lowe
2008-majority commission: Jennings, Mulvehill, Golden
2009-majority commission: Jennings, Mulvehill, Golden (the commission that hired Susan Stanton to STOP THE BLEED, which she did)

- Expenditures in 2005 exceeded Revenues
- Expenditures in budget year 2007/2008 exceeded Revenues...budget set in Fall of 2007.
- Expenditures in budget year 2008/2009 exceeded Revenues big time. This Budget was set in September 2008
- City Manager Susan Stanton was not hired until April 2009, six months after the Budget started. She worked on the 2009/2010 budget where Revenues exceeded Expenditures for the first time in years.
- Suzanne Mulvehill won her election on November 18, 2008 with 58.79% of the vote which was after the 2008/2009 Budget was already set and voted upon.

Your anonymous city employee entered the Commission chambers where I had been seated in my usual place during the ten years I regularly attended Commission meetings, front row left aisle, on the side of the winning candidate I had supported.
Although Laurence and I were the only ones in the room, this light haired, white woman immediately took it upon herself to tell me, and not Laurence, to move to the back of this totally empty public forum room.
As a non-white or brown person myself I have been referred to by racial slurs regularly from early childhood through adulthood in both Europe and America and I asked her if she was viewing me through the eyes of prejudice, which I believe she was.
If an apology is required from anyone, it is from this nameless City employee, who overstepped her authority and insulted a taxpayer who regularly pays her salary.

Due to the your recent outburst in the City Hall Chambers involving a racial slur, not once but twice, I feel compelled to respond. The honorable thing to do is to issue a publically (sic) stated apology for using the ‘N’ word in the Chambers. Lake Worth is proud of its diversity and openness, and I will not abide this kind of behavior in the people’s temple. Your nonfactual rants such as below about the elected officials and the staff will not be a distraction from this incident.

Note: Instead of losing your temper, the "honorable thing to do" would have been to privately speak with Mrs. McNamara if you were so upset about the alleged comment attributed to her and get her side of the story before making a judgment. It's understandable that you are protecting your staff member but is that really your job to judge in this case? Allegedly, this word was used with NO ONE ELSE IN THE ROOM. The mature thing to do would have been to forget it. If you are proud of our diversity and our openness, then you are well aware of the strong-willed people with different personalities. It's still a "he said, she said" and in this country you are innocent until proven guilty.

Hudson Holdings - Blowing in the Wind
Comment Up
They came in droves...all those "gullible" people as John Szerdi would call them but mostly "hopeful" people...hopeful that we would actually find out something from Steve Michael and Hudson Holdings as to what they are doing at the Gulfstream Hotel. I had suggested that all attend this "important" meeting held at the golf course last night by the Bryant Park Neighborhood Association, but if you attended, you learned nothing new. In fact, what they told us was less than it had ever been.
In May 2014, the hotel was bought by Hudson Holdings for $7,225,000. When someone pays that much for an historic property you want to believe that their intentions are sincere especially when the city was jerked around by the former owner who allowed the property to sit there and only be used for an illegal banner. Now, as it turns out, it is becoming a place for vagrants and slum.
On September 22, 2014 at the Pineapple Ridge Neighborhood Association meeting, Hudson Holdings' rep, Steve Michael, told us that they planned on renovating it, making the rooms larger, build a parking garage and a "65' building built to code" on the vacant lot that will consist of rooms and apartments and the demolition of the outer buildings would begin in 90 days. We learned more of their intent at that meeting than we did last night. Last night's meeting was nothing more than PR and blowing in the wind. Nothing has been done at all on this property and no specific news was shared to the crowd in attendance last night. Once again, it was the big stall...they would begin within 6 to 8 months after they submit design plans that they say will be in 60 days for phase I (the existing hotel renovation) and Phase II (garage and new building addition).
John Szerdi gave a lecture to the crowd but never mentioned that he is an employee of Hudson. He sounded like he was campaigning. His people were there. Steve Michael said that Hudson wanted to have a "partnership with the community." When asked about his proposal to the City of Lake Worth to expand the beach and its desire to obtain a long-term lease (recently revealed at the meeting they had at the Gulfstream Condos), the question was not answered but we were told that "we don't know if we are going to build at the beach." He then said that there was a cone of silence. Margaret Menge of the Lake Worth Tribune was heckled when she asked Michael about the beach. Commissioner Maier reminded Michael that Hudson Holdings was not under a cone of silence, only the commissioners, and that Michael could share that information with the crowd. Maier got heckled. The meeting became politically charged and you would have thought you were right in the middle of a campaign or that Szerdi had actually won the election.
Peggy Fisher, a faithful supporter of the present commission majority and resident of Lake Worth, interjected and had to inform the crowd that the Invitation to Negotiate (ITN) at our beach property was revealed to the public as early as September 2014...nothing new...no one was hiding anything and implied that we all were aware of it. (No one was aware that Hudson wanted to build a 20,000 s.f conference center). We were told that we could ask questions last night. Nothing was said by the president of the Bryant Park NA that we could stand and give political speeches as did Fisher and Szerdi.
This hotel is being used as leverage to get hold of our beach...pure and simple-- and they had the perfect crowd to give their pitch. They know how desperate the city is to get a hotel opened.
Jim Walker said that he wanted to be the first one to make a reservation for ten when Hudson opened the restaurant at the Gulfstream. I'm afraid that he will have a very long wait.

My birthday present from Suzanne S. It's still gorgeous--has not shed one flower now in over two months. I usually don't have a lot of luck with orchids as there is zero humidity in my condo. This was bought at Family Produce, 7620 S. Dixie Highway, WPB from Jamal.

Greenacres wants to communicate with Staff directly
Comment Up
We are always comparing ourselves to Greenacres as it has similar demographics and we wonder how they can have their own police department and can run their city cheaper than we can. Now their city commission is entertaining the idea of a policy review involving communication with staff. Right now, everything has to go through their city manager if a commissioner wants to discuss city business with an employee. A few commissioners in Greenacres don't like it. There should be a separation of powers--policy and administrative--staff jobs should not be politicized.
What our charter says this under Article 3, Legislative:
Section 6, Prohibitions (b) Interference with administration. Except for the purpose of inquiries and investigations, the city commission or its members shall deal with city officers and employees who are subject to the direction and supervision of the city manager solely through the city manager, and neither the city commission nor its members shall give orders to any such officer or employee either publicly or privately. Nothing in the foregoing is to be construed to prohibit individual members of the city commission from closely scrutinizing by questions and personal observation, all aspects of city government operations so as to obtain independent information to assist the members in the formulation of sound policies to be considered by the city commission. It is the express intent of this charter, however, that recommendations for improvement in city government operations by individual commissioners be made to and through the city manager, so that the manager may coordinate efforts of all city departments to achieve the greatest possible savings through the most efficient and sound means available.
Section 23.2-1. - City commission. The city is governed by a city commission consisting of five (5) elected members, including a mayor as more particularly set forth in the City Charter. In addition to any authority granted the city commission by state law, City Charter or other regulations of the city, the city commission shall have the power and duty to act as the final decisionmaker with respect to certain types of applications and appeals. A table illustrating city commission authority is contained at section 23.2-9. Sec. 23.2-2. - City manager. The city manager shall be the chief administrative officer of the City of Lake Worth, with ultimate authority over the implementation of the LDRs. The city manager has the authority to delegate this authority to city staff as necessary for the effective administration of the LDRs.

Shanon Materio and friends - Caught with a smoking gun?
Comment Up
It seems as if West Palm Beach Commissioner Shanon Materio was a busy gal. Now it's the South End Political Action Coalition, a political committee of some type that was formed right before Kimberly Mitchell, her BFF, filed to run for mayor of West Palm Beach in order to replace Jeri Muoio.
The Committee was formed for the benefit of Commissioner Mitchell, Len Fintzy, and Cory Neering in the recent election. The campaign treasurer for Fintzy is no other than Lake Worth's Mary Lindsey, another BFF of Shanon Materio. Lindsey was also the campaign treasurer for Shanon Materio.
Because of a dumb mistake and using the wrong e-mail address, (it should have been Shanon Materio's daughter's e-mail address as Shanon was staying out of the spotlight it seems) the plot was discovered--PAC’s are not legally allowed to coordinate mailings with candidates or candidate staff. The e-mail clearly shows that SEPAC coordinated with Beth Kennedy, campaign manager for Mitchell, Fintzy and Neering, and please notice Richard Pinsky, lobbyist and ex husband of Commissioner Mitchell, was also copied, says West Palm Beach Gov Watch. Richard Pinsky, if you recall, is a paid lobbyist for the City of Lake Worth.
Read about it... Did an "innocent" e-mail auto-fill error expose campaign tampering by all of those in bed together?

Patrick Murphy to run for Senate
Comment Up
Patrick Murphy says that he is going to run for Senator, Marco Rubio's seat whether Rubio runs for president or not. That will leave his congressional seat opened. Guess who is being mentioned for that seat?
According to the PBPost, Murphy’s decision to pursue the Senate seat rather than a third House term will create a scramble for his District 18 seat.
Possible Democratic candidates include Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay, state Rep. Dave Kerner of Lake Worth, state Sen. Jeff Clemens of Atlantis and St. Lucie County Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky.
That has been Clemens' ambition from the very beginning when he became Chair of Lake Worth's CRA.

Common Ground Church - Love is Greater Than Hate
Comment Up
"Anything can happen in 24 hours"--that was the message this morning. Mike Olive is a dynamic speaker whose sincerity and love for Jesus is contagious. When you get an opportunity, visit one Sunday and listen to his message and meet the friendly folks who come to worship. You won't be disappointed and you will end up being hooked on God.
"God shows up in the middle of the mess with a message. God can do something at any moment."
The Common Ground Church plans on building a bridge of love in the community with the gospel of truth which will be spoken within the City of Lake Worth.
Next Saturday and Sunday, the church will be serving free coffee from 7am until 7pm during Pride Fest because they love Lake Worth. They have also asked the city if they can use the Cultural Plaza on Easter for an hour service. They are waiting for a reply.

Eclipse seen as Warning?
The head of El Shaddai Ministries and the author of “Blood Moons, Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs,” says that it is. Pastor Mark Biltz said the prophecies of the Bible need to be acknowledged, because opposition to Israel will increase even as God is sending signs in the heavens that He will intervene.
Biltz’s comments come at a time when President Obama is reportedly preparing to abandon the Jewish state at the United Nations and force sanctions on Netanyahu’s government. Such an action would signal the effective end of an alliance that has extended over decades and the administrations of American presidents from both parties.
An anti-Netanyahu political action group tied to Obama also vowed it is “here to stay” even after its defeat in the elections and has declared a “long march” toward change in Israel.

Is Christian Martyrdom really coming?
Comment Up
There are some extreme Bible enthusiasts. Is Christian martyrdom really on the horizon like the second coming of Christ? Prepare for Martyrdom, says Sandy Rios, the director of governmental affairs for the American Family Association and the host of a daily radio show.
Ms. Rios said this to a Christian crowd that citizens need to prepare for the worst – "any Supreme Court that paves the way for gay marriage is going to crush this country."
