Marco, he's my man

Comment Up

It has been strongly suggested that Marco Rubio will announce his presidential bid on April 13 (Thomas Jefferson's birthday) at the Freedom Tower in Miami.

As Marco Rubio is a son of Cuban immigrants, what better place than the Freedom Tower, a landmark building that once housed Cuban refugees fleeing from the communist dictator, Fidel Castro.  Read more... at the Miami Herald.

And what better venue than the Freedom Tower when Marco Rubio said on the Senate floor, “Let me tell you what the Cubans are really good at--what they are really good at is repression ... They have exported repression in real time, in our hemisphere, right now.”

There are many reasons why I like Marco Rubio but one important quality he always exudes is that of a leader who always keeps his cool making his points. The biggest debate among Republicans has been immigration. While helping to draw an immigration bill, he treated his opponents with respect. He never ignored or belittled them if they had a different view. It has been reported that he always enthusiastically engaged them with respect and candor. (Some of our Lake Worth commissioners could learn from this).

He loves this country and he is definitely a living example of the American Dream. Believing in freedom in the greatest country in the world, one in which has a set of ideals allowing prosperity and success achieved through hard work, if elected, he would be the same age as John Kennedy when he was elected President of the United States.

  1. "he always exudes is that of a leader and always keeps his cool making his points."

As long as he has a water bottle handy to chug from, right?

Truth be known, I could care less that he was so nervous and "uncool" that he had to drink water in the middle of the speech, but it's ironic that the same people who have chided Obama for using a teleprompter for 8 years wrap their arms this slurper. Why would they make fun of one and love the other? That's the essence of being a Republican.

And do you remember how much criticism Obama got for being just a "one term Senator?"

Magically, not a concern with Marco.

    Amazing how that works.

  2. Call it what you will, I stand up for what I believe. Sorry you have such a big huge problem with that.

  3. Of the lawmakers currently serving in the U.S. Senate, Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is the least likely to show up for work. He’s been in office for four years, and of 1,198 opportunities to vote, he has declined to do so 99 times. That’s an absentee rate of 8.2 percent—four times the Senate average of 2.01 percent.

  4. Actually, it's 7.1%. Sen. Marco Rubio, who has missed 7.1 percent of votes since taking office in 2011, also Cited familial duties for his absence.

The vast majority of missed votes are when he needs to be in Miami for family commitments. He is one of the only senators with young children who has not moved his family to D.C., and tries to spend as much time in Florida with them as possible.

  5. So, he's using taxpayer money to spend time with his family in Miami instead of working. Cool. Rubber stamped by the people who can't stand welfare...at least when it's given to poor people instead of Senators.

    I feel so much better.

  6. Rubio gets a salary for being a US Senator. Out of his salary, he pays for housing, food and all the necessary things to stay alive in this world. One is to visit his family. He also has written books where he received royalties that he could be using as well.
he paid back the money owed on the GOP credit card.

Now in Congress, as with the Senate, Democrats, who have been in the minority since 2011, miss votes at a substantially higher rate than Republicans. Only two members of the GOP crack the top 10, though Don Young (R-Alaska) is in the upper half, with an abstain-rate of about 14.8 percent. Like Brian Schatz, he too comes from a faraway land—Alaska. 7. I just read where the President is down here playing golf. Now I wonder who paid for this trip? What about all the first lady's vacations?

  8. The Obamas Have Spent Over $44,351,777.12 In Taxpayer Cash On Travel. Our president vacations a lot — we're talking $44,351,777.12 worth of "a lot," with most expenses charged to the American taxpayer. As of March 2014, Obama has spent more time traveling internationally than any other president, taking 31 trips since assuming office in 2009. The 119 days spent overseas have cost taxpayers millions of dollars. At the same point in their respective presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 116 days on 28 trips, Bill Clinton had spent 113 days on 27 trips and Ronald Reagan had spent 73 days on just 14 trips. [...] The actual total cost may be higher, as the White House is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.
