Spring Training Stadium in West Palm Beach

Representatives of the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals are focusing their pursuit of a shared spring training baseball complex on the 160 acres south of 45th Street between Haverhill Road and Military Trail....

City Commissioner Shanon Materio said today that before she decides on anything, she wants to see all the dollar figures. “The hard thing about baseball,” she said, “is quantifying what it brings to the city.” Commissioner Materio is correctly addressing this possible venture.

I guess the next time we see Scott Maxwell with his bat it might be up near 45th Street.

Can't afford Crist

Let’s talk about jobs.

When Charlie Crist left office in 2010, 832,000 Floridians were without jobs. Unemployment tripled, taxes had spiked by $2.2 billion and small businesses were trapped under burdensome regulations.

Then, Governor Scott took office with the goal of putting Floridians back to work and creating jobs.

Four years later, thanks to Governor Scott’s dedication and leadership, Florida has achieved an incredible turnaround. In June alone, our state created 36,900 private-sector jobs--the most in the nation. And more than 620,000 private-sector jobs have been created since Governor Scott took office. With Governor Scott’s 40 tax cuts and 3,000 regulations eliminated, Florida has created the jobs needed to give families hope.

Jobs are booming in Florida. Watch the video below to hear from Floridians across the state about the work Governor Scott has done to move our state forward.

Florida is headed in the right direction—why would we want to go back?

So "Sue me"

And they did!
Also, the word now is "injunction."  President Obama has pledged to “fix as much of our immigration system as I can on my own, without Congress" by the end of the summer. He has said that he will take unilateral action to deal with the issue of illegal immigration.  Is that a joke? “I take executive action only when we have a serious problem, a serious issue, and Congress chooses to do nothing. And in this situation, the failure of House Republicans to pass a darn bill is bad for our security, it’s bad for our economy, and it’s bad for our future,” he said. Read more at Breitbart.

Year 2020 - The Vision

Don't feel alone on 2020 initiatives that can, might or will cost you BIG TIME. It seems that every legal citizen has been screwed in a 2020 of a different kind.

"The U.S. congressman said his trip to the border showed him the mind-boggling nature of the problem in a nutshell. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, described to a hearing held by the House Judiciary Committee this  morning and how he saw illegal immigrants arrive on the border, claim asylum, and then be given a court date as far in the future as 2020. 'Meanwhile they get a work permit to compete against those legally and lawfully here', he said.”

Scary vision, isn't it? You can thank Obama and the Democrats.

Looking for Plan B - It's the Spending, Stupid

I say, find another Plan.  Develop a Plan B. No one should have to pay taxes on roads infrastructure for 34 years, a bond that begins in 2015 and ends in 2049 with the burden of the tax falling on those with higher property values.

Lake Worth is a dirt poor city.  Back in 2011 and after the 2010 Census was taken, it was reported that poverty in the U.S. had spread to 46 million people and that the gap between the wealthiest and the poorest continues to grow. Even retirees who used to come to Florida in droves are going to other places because their money has been devalued thanks to the Feds. They are looking for an affordable place to retire...they must be comfortable knowing that they will be able to live out their lives with the money they have saved. They sell their home in the north worth $500,000 and find that taxes and utilities are so high here that it is unaffordable for most to settle here as they have done in the past.

Instead, we have been getting a large immigrant population that has brought down the income average and property values have deteriorated beyond repair. We became a Sanctuary city, another thing you can blame on the federal government. Absentee landlords have not kept their properties up which further exacerbates the problem.  Fines are imposed and it takes forever to collect even pennies on the dollar and properties still look like hell. Our government continues to keep its head in the sand and it never discusses the real problems here in our city--slum, blight and crime.

Our budget has always had a line item for street improvements.  A few years ago it was reduced by one-half to $500,000 a year but this commission likes to play the blame game and they tell us it is 50 years of neglect and blame it all on past commissions--the present commission tells us that they are our saviors..  No, it hasn't been that at all.  If they want to blame anyone, blame the federal government for not enforcing our immigration laws. Blame the government and then blame Wall Street. The great recession/crisis was the result of high risk, complex financial products; undisclosed conflicts of interest; the failure of regulators, the credit rating agencies, and the market itself,  Wall Street was not reined in--no one was looking out for us, the American citizen. And as a consequence to all this greed, our country was affected beyond imagination. Lake Worth was wounded severely with people foreclosed upon and their investments going down the tubes.

As a consequence, all of our property owners and all those who rent (close to 60% of our housing stock is rental) are being courted to pick up the tab for infrastructure because the city says it no longer wants to patch and maintain the roads.  But the problem is, the city NEVER maintains anything it owns. It can't tax its way out of debt. People will sell; businesses won't come unless the Commission gives huge tax breaks like it gave The Lucerne. The Park of Commerce investment will never pay for itself. I always get a kick out of Scott Maxwell worrying that we delayed paying ourselves back the $500,000 towards our casino but he has no problem taxing the people for $9.6 million for the Park of Commerce infrastructure, an investment that will never be paid back for 100 years on land that we don't even own and voting to tax you $63.5 million. Your tax money is a means to some unexplainable end. Notice that this group doesn't talk about the Park of Commerce these days.

It’s a fantasy to imagine that raising taxes on every property owner that detrimentally affects those who own non-homesteaded or high-end property will solve our problem, a city with little money to operate.   Most of our revenues goes to salaries and pensions. Progressives want to take more money from those who have it. They throw offensive epithets or names as a way of abusing or insulting all those who disagree and who are against this tax calling us anarchists which is really ridiculous as most of them are communists and socialists who want the wealthy to pay for everything. They say we want to keep our city from all its potential. All I say is live within your means.  It's the spending, stupid.

I am still looking for Plan B.

Quote of the Day - Marco Rubio

The United States is a deeply compassionate country, as shown by the 1 million immigrants entering legally every year, but that's being abused. If Obama gives work permits to 5 million or 6 million people, there will be an additional surge of people coming because smugglers and family members will tout the action as a welcoming of immigrants. It's just a lure to bring more people over illegally."

No Trust; No Bonds

Comment Up

These are a few of the photos in the Code Analysis of February 2013. If you notice, they resemble the graphics suggested by former commissioner, Suzanne Mulvehill, on how our downtown could look with taller buildings and who was torn to shreds for this that and the next thing and for similar graphics she showed prior to the height petition process. She was scorned, ridiculed and condemned...Lake Worth politics at its very worst.

Now, as the City has been so hypocritical regarding heights and LOST that election, how can you trust them by voting in $63.5 million so that they can spend, spend and spend some more?  Truth matters and so does trust.

Sunday's Rainbow

A single ray of light contains the seven colors of the rainbow and so does the human spirit, which reveals itself through seven degrees of consciousness according to this post on Facebook.Sounds good to me!

As Citizens Against Unfair Taxation started its campaign on Sunday to enlighten all of those who will be voting on the General Obligation bond that will put a stronghold on all property owners for over 30 years, this rainbow was a telltale sign of the reward that awaits at the end of the rainbow on August 26th--NO new taxes..

No trust; No bond.

I'm headed to Washington DC tomorrow for some very important meetings over two days. I'll be meeting with FEMA to discuss the nearly 5 Million they say we owe back to them from the hurricanes of 2004-2005. Yes, 10 years later! Then I'm meeting with the US Department of Energy to talk about Electric Utility programs including the possibilities of Photovoltaic and compressed natural gas programs. You might remember the natural gas line we've been paying handsomely for? Also follow up meetings are scheduled with Senators and Congressmen and women regarding infrastructure funding to help offset our costs of fixing the roadways. Senator Clemens was very clear in a recent commission meeting what was at stake. I appreciate very much his commitment to help us! We are being proactive so we don't have to deal with issues like these again. Keep me in your prayers. I'll report back when I return.

UPDATE ON FEMA from the newly released FY 2013 CAFR (Audit) that was prepared by the Lake Worth Financial Department and audited by WatsonRice, our external auditors.  These figures are somewhat different than the FEMA reports of November and December 2012 as previously mentioned and there is no mention of the original questionable amounts, $470,244 and $6,998,095 in this report. Staff back then was turning in receipts for all sorts of personal items such as medicine and goods from Sam's Club.

If you want to see the facts and figures, Click here

It's no wonder they need to grab all that money!

The Bond

$131,013,442.00 (estimated)--30+ yrs--you will pay until year 2049

$ 2,075,000.00--cost of project management through this plan or 5 yrs.

The 21 projects are projected to be completed in the year 2020 but you will be paying until 2049.  They will begin in May 2015 as they will have to "sell" this bond. (What happened to the finance director?)

**If local property owners do not pay their property taxes on time in any given year, a government entity is required to increase its property tax rate by as much as is legally allowable in a following year to make up for any delinquencies. In the interim between the taxpayer delinquency and the higher property tax rate in the following year, the general obligation pledge requires the local government to pay debt service coming due with its available resources. Finance Director gone in Lake Worth

We already talked about Doug Wood leaving the city as Finance Director.  But can you imagine the reason given by city manager Mike Bornstein?  This city gets more and more bizarre with each passing day and certainly less believable.  Now it has purged some of the Lake Worth 2020 general obligation bond information off its web site.

Clueless Debbie Wasserman-Schultz

What Debbie Wasserman-Schultz said:

It seems like every Republican in the country is pinning their electoral hopes on this ridiculous scheme to impeach the President.

Let’s review which Republicans called for ridiculous legal action against the President this summer:
  • “The U.S. House of Representatives should file articles of impeachment against Barack Hussein Obama.” - former Rep. Allen West (R-FL), June 3, 2014
  • “It’s time to impeach.” - Sarah Palin, July 8, 2014 (she said the same thing on the 21st)
  • “Resolved: That the Speaker may initiate or intervene in one or more [lawsuits against] the President” - John Boehner draft resolution, July 10, 2014
Their strategy is the height of crass, partisan cynicism. They know the President hasn’t committed high crimes and misdemeanors. They also know that if they don’t distract voters from their radical agenda, they don’t stand a chance in November.

The simple truth of the matter, something Democrats find impossible to accept, is that our president has not done his job and the American people have no confidence in his leadership" or in him.

Obama has not worked with Congress from inception and now all he and Debbie do is ridicule Republicans. He doesn't want to work with conservatives. So, instead, he plays mind and word games and ignores the Constitution and uses executive power to inact laws going around the Congress. He condemns Congress for its scheduled vacation but he can go off and fund raise and play golf spending multi-millions of taxpayer money while the mid-East goes up in flames. He's abandoning our great ally, Israel and he has ignored the borders and our own sovereignty. No wonder conservatives are fed up. Running away from Congress isn’t leading; it’s giving up.

New Obama rule will trump local cities zoning laws

Comment Up

This has to do with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulation, “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing.”  In a press statement, “This proposed rule represents a 21st century approach to fair housing, a step forward to ensuring that every American is able to choose to live in a community they feel proud of—where they have a fair shot at reaching their full potential in life,” said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan.

Under the regulation, the Obama administration will be empowered to condition eligibility for community development block grants on redrawing zoning maps to create evenly distributed neighborhoods based on racial composition and income. This will be in effect October this year.  Read more...

HUD has been sneaking around our community for the past year or so even trying to make cases on Boards of Directors that have rejected some buyers even though background checks have supported the rejections.  They are committing an illegal act by "steering" but hey, the government gets away with anything. One association in my community was sued for not taking a woman with a baby even though we are an over 55 community. They don't care about that.  They make it into a racial thing (they read Rules for Radicals) to justify their cushy federal paychecks and retirement benefits.

Read about HUD takes control of local zoning

As you worry about potholes and you are made to feel guilty about any doubts you have on a long-term debt and not committing to 34 years of it or they tell you that you don't really care about your city, you had best worry about this.

Thanks to this commission, we have more affordable housing than in any time in our history.  They want you to pay for infrastructure for developers but they have approved of all this low cost housing and as such, have encouraged more poor to live in our city. Our entire town could be Section 8. Then, who in the hell is going to care about a pothole?

Over the top on a Gun Control argument

On a local level, we continue to endure character assassinations and personal attacks from some who want their way but it could be worse.  You could have this whack job taking a crack at ya. This article from Salon  attempts to Paint Avowed Communist Lee Harvey Oswald as a Right-Winger. You can't get more nuts than that when it comes to denigrating people.

"Via Salon comes one of the most truly bizarre pieces of revisionist history I have ever seen, even within the context of articles appearing at Salon. The basic outline and assumption of the author is as follows:

Dallas in 1963 was full of crazy right-wingers;
These people had guns
John F. Kennedy was shot in Dallas in 1963;
Barack Obama likewise has many right-wingers who oppose him;
therefore It’s only a matter of time before one of them shoots him.

The baseless appeal to sensationalism and emotionalism is the primary (and usually only) tool in the gun control advocate’s toolbox. . . . Read more at the Red State."

This is what liberals and bullies do--twist the truth and attempt to bring down their opponents in the most loathsome of ways.

Yesterday at the Lake Worth beach

Our beach park consisting of 19 acres is one of our assets that this city did not give away although they tried hard enough to hand it over to a flim flam man for 40 years.  Thanks to the common sense of a former commission, Lake Worth is still in control of its important asset.  It was this commission, scared to death of lawsuits, that paid $1.6 million of your money so that this company would get out of our hair...a company that NEVER performed, not once, other than at our pool and even many of those upgrades were unsatisfactory. Now they want you to vote yourself into debt until 2049. Who can you trust? No trust, no bond.

College Park Neighborhood Assn to hold special meeting on General Obligation bond

Comment Up

We residents just can't get enough "education" even if it will be one-sided and attended by city staff. No where does Mary Lindsey identify herself. I guess she believes that everyone knows who she is in Lake Worth--President of the  Neighborhood Association Council that is over all of the NA's in our city and President of her own Neighborhood Association at College Park. Is there anyone out there who believes she is not influential? Obtaining power through the neighborhoods was on the drawing board years ago.  I wrote about it in the Dirty Dozen series.

We are allowing her to be fully transparent here by publishing her letter--at least she invited everyone to attend a meeting through Facebook (many people do not use Facebook) where the city will try very hard to convince you to turn over your first born, vote yourself into a 30 year debt, a debt that Mary supports.

College Park Neighborhood Special Meeting
Saturday, August 23rd
5-7 PM
First Congregational Church
1415 North K Street
Everyone is invited!
The College Park Neighborhood Association is holding a special meeting on Saturday, August 23rd to allow friends and neighbors another opportunity to hear directly from the City about the Lake Worth 2020 plan and the bond referendum that will appear on the ballot in the August 26th election.

Representatives from the City will be on hand to present detailed information about what the plan will include city wide and block by block, the proposed timetable for the improvements that are planned as well as what passage of the bond will cost individual property owners.

A special table will be set up with City staff members and computers to calculate the cost in actual dollar amounts based on information retrieved from the Property Appraisers website for individual properties using the most conservative parameters.

As a Neighborhood Association, College Park neither supports nor opposes any candidate or question that comes before the voters. The purpose of this meeting is to offer neighbors an opportunity to learn more about the bond referendum so that they can make the most informed choice when they vote. This is not a formal debate on the question from those in favor of or opposed to the bond. This is strictly to provide information to anyone who wants it. Comments and questions will be welcomed and answered.

Neighbors from anywhere in the City of Lake Worth are invited to attend and participate. Coffee, cool beverages and light refreshments will be served. Polling place information for the election on Tuesday, August 26th will be available. The question as it will appear on the ballot is as follows:

Meeting held without public notice unethical?

Comment Up

It's really no wonder why people don't want to move to Lake Worth. It certainly isn't because of potholes.  For years it has had the reputation of being totally dysfunctional and a city that has mismanaged money and assets. As one former resident recently told me, "Will LW ever become 'normal'; it just continues down the path of self destruction. I don't know how people continue to live there, constant chaos."

The "other" side of politics along with its PACs they form, have always taken certain liberties that sometimes are illegal and definitely at times unethical...dirty pool.  And it always seems like the same "tricky" people playing the tricks. We have people appointed to major Boards making decisions for you and me and who are publicly advocating for a certain vote on the Lake Worth General obligation bond. One blogs and then allows disgusting comments on his site and personally attacks other citizens. We have a city manager whose salary is paid by all of you, advocating for a certain outcome. The city has taken $50,000 of your money to promote their argument. I question the lack of ethics and so does the President of ROLO (The Residents of Lake Osborne), who lives in the District near where the meeting was held and who was ignored and NOT invited to their "public" meeting. He wrote the following e-mail:

From: Robert Waples
Date: Fri, Jul 25, 2014 at 9:21 PM
Subject: PAC having non-publicized Meetings on government property
To:
Please explain to me how you have a meeting about a city wide plan hosted by a Political Action Committee (PAC) on Government Property stating it's for Community or City Leaders and it's not properly Publicized and Neighborhood leaders in the same community are "selected" to attend?

This is way out and non-ethical government, not honest to the community and does not represent both sides or all sides of a major electoral event coming up for our city.

You paid public employees to be on public or government grounds and did not notify everyone involved or in the public is a complete disregard for public notice. "Last night at Barton Elementary - LW2020 Presentation to Community Leaders

As a resident who lives in the City of Lake Worth, not a member of any PAC and a very concerned citizen, this is beyond what you're allowed to do. You have over stepped the rules of Ethics for the State of Florida.  I hereby request a formal investigation from the Florida Commission on Ethics and if this meeting is in violation I would want the full extent of the Laws and Rules of Government of the State of Florida to be taken.

NOT All Aboard Florida

Please write President Obama and Gov. Scott today, says NOT All Aboard Florida.! And why does our commission approve of it?...32 more trains barreling down the tracks at 79 mph on the west side of Dixie and NO stop in Lake Worth. Private enterprise that is after a $1.5 billion federal loan to help finance the project, has our city seeking grants to pay for Quiet zones along the tracks.
Jul 24, 2014 — PLEASE WRITE THE PRESIDENT and THE GOVERNOR! The RRIF loan will be decided by the Federal Railroad Agency and the Office of Management and Budget. That is right, President Obama himself will approve or disapprove of the RRIF loan. Please, write, call or e-mail President Obama today and let him know how detrimental this project is for our area and that we do not want one penny of our tax dollars being used to front this project for a private company. Governor Rick Scott: rick.scott@eog.myflorida.com

Dear President Obama:
Dear Governor Rick Scott:

We are seeking your help to stop a project that is important to all Floridians. As you may know, All Aboard Florida has applied to the Federal Railroad Administration for the largest federal railroad loan ($1.5 billion) in history. The purpose of the loan is to start a passenger railroad service from Miami to Orlando. The loan application is based on false premises and would result in an irresponsible waste of taxpayer money.

The great flaw in the application is that passenger railroad services have never been profitable. Yet All Aboard Florida has claimed that it would be profitable and privately funded with no financial burden to the State of Florida. Simply stated, there is no precedent for the claims made by All Aboard Florida.

Also important is the experience here in Florida. First, we already have a passenger service from Miami to Orlando. It is AMTRAK’s Sunset Limited, and it survives with large federal subsidies. Furthermore, the State of Florida has gone to a great effort to study the feasibility of three other railroad passenger services for Florida — and turned them down because it was determined that they lacked economic feasibility. The first was the Florida Overland Express, the so-called Bullet Train in the 1990s. In 2004, a constitutional amendment to Florida’s constitution was repealed based on the endorsement of Governor Jeb Bush to kill a proposal for a second passenger service. Finally, in 2010, Governor Rick Scott rejected federal funds of $1.25 billion for another proposed passenger service because it would be “far too costly for taxpayers” and “the risk far outweighed the benefits.” These considered judgments were based on serious state studies.

An editorial in the Palm Beach Post on May 17, 2014 went right to the heart of the matter. It called All Aboard Florida’s business plan “odd,” and quoted an economist as saying it “was pie in the sky.” On top of this a thoughtful article by the well-known author Carl Hiaasen pointed out that All Aboard Florida has sued to keep its ridership surveys a secret. All Aboard Florida is trying to foist upon us a pig in a poke. In the coming weeks the Federal Railroad Administration will issue an Environmental Impact Study and give the public an opportunity to comment on the loan application. Please give your attention to this matter and lend us your support. The project lacks any objective basis and the loan should be rejected. We are counting on you to protect the public interest.

Truth Keeps Marching On

Comment Up

Truth does keep marching on and we at Lynn's Little Bit of Trivia make sure of it.

The other blogger who has a mission to discredit anyone who disagrees with him, just did so on his blog...again. He copied word for word from a citizen's Facebook posting that disputes John Rinaldi's statement on the percentage of roads that will be paved under the Lake Worth 2020 general obligation bond, a referendum to be approved or denied on August 26, by saying the following:

"Here is what Lake Worth resident Bob Lepa determined after consulting with the city:

I had stated 90% of the roads would be paved/replaced with the $63 Million dollar bond. It turns out 72% of the CITY OWNED roads will be replaced/repaved.. The other 18% has already been done in the past couple of years on a piecemeal basis. However John did say his figures showed only 30% of the roads would be done. His figures include County, State and Interstate roads... once they are subtracted from City ownership we are up to 72% that will be done and 90% when you count what has been done in the past several years."

Obviously the blogger must side with the person who made the statement because it was blogged to discredit someone with an opposing opinion.

The truth keeps marching on--
Now, believing in the facts and the truth of this very important matter, we have scanned information from the City's web site that agrees with Mr. Rinaldi's statement on Facebook--

Nowhere in the above city statement does it include fantasy. It is all matter-of-fact...30% of the existing roads in Lake Worth will be resurfaced under this bond. They have told us this for 6 months or more. So, if the City now has a different narrative to convince you to vote for these bonds, who can you believe? If you can't believe the City of Lake Worth, and they really are changing their tale 5 weeks before the election to "bring home the bacon" as stated above, who in the hell can you trust?

NO trust...NO bond.
Vote AGAINST bonds on August 26.

Lake Worth Finance Director gone!

Comment Up

Douglas Wood was just hired on January 30th of this year. He is no longer with the city and his name does not appear on the Lake Worth web site. We have to wonder what happened to Mr. Wood and why his sudden departure. Was it because he was just too disgusted with how things were going or was it because he told the truth on the real cost of the general obligation bond? You have to wonder why anyone would leave right smack in the middle of budget season. Steve Carr has been brought back to help us through.

The "real" reasons for non-investment in Lake Worth

The real reasons why people are not investing in Lake Worth--it has nothing to do with the roads, lack of fire hydrants, cracked or lack of sidewalks, a few gravel roads or street lights. If this bond passes, you can then add the highest taxed city in Palm Beach County to the list and the biggest debt you have ever seen.  This is a city that can NOT take care of the basic problems that have dragged our city down for years.

Lake Worth is not transparent on the Bond Referendum

Comment Up

And talking about the City of Lake Worth's lack of transparency, when you go to the city's web site under Elections and Referendums, this is the wordage you get:

NOTICE OF BOND REFERENDUM ELECTION
CITY OF LAKE WORTH Pursuant to F.S. 100.342, notice is hereby given that the City of Lake Worth, Florida, will hold a bond referendum election on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, to consider:Authorizing the issuance of General Obligation Bonds in an aggregate principal amount not exceeding $63,500,000 payable from ad valorem taxes levied on all taxable property in the City of Lake Worth to construct certain capital improvements as set forth by Resolution No. 29-2014 adopted by the Lake Worth City Commission on June 3, 2014.
Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and all qualified electors in the City of Lake Worth are eligible to vote. Polling locations will be the same as those used for the General Election. Absentee ballots may be obtained from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections, 240 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach, Florida 33416, or by calling 656-6200.
  • There is no mention of the term and that you will be paying until year 2049
  • There is no mention of the total estimated cost of $131,013,442.00 MILLION dollars. They took that down from their web page!
So, let us be transparent...why have they removed these significant and pertinent facts?  The answer is obvious:  they don't want you to know about them. Before you buy something, don't you want to know the term and the true cost? They really believe that you're voting yourself into 34 years of debt will turn this city around.  They believe that by putting in the infrastructure in the Park of Commerce, PRIVATE PROPERTY, that builders and business will arrive here in droves and contribute to the tax base.

FACTS:
  • There is NO guarantee that anyone will come to the POC...that's a fact
  • And the other big truth that they NEVER MENTION, is that it will take 50 to 100 years to EVER recapture your taxed investment in the Park of Commerce, if ever.
  • The other fact is, they just want the money and we will never get an accounting. Why do I say that?  Because we have NEVER had an accounting on any money in the past.  It is spent or goes missing.
It's all a matter of TRUST. We  have seen them in action with illegal banners to boot. Why would they appropriate $50,000 dollars to bring forth their one-sided message and use your tax dollars? Why would they tell you that they are asking you to approve this measure as they did in their Newsletter? Why should anyone hand over their sacred "trust' especially when it is going to cost them taxes for three decades when they are hiding sacred truths? No, you run from any salesman who hides the facts and you should run like hell from this bond.

Vote AGAINST new long-term taxes on August 26th.

Marriage "Equality"

Comment Up

This is a controversial subject especially in our city where our Gay/Lesbian population is larger than most. We have all believed at one time or another or have parents who believe or some of us who still believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. Lately the rejection of gay marriage is changing. It has been a long battle for gays starting in October 1972 where the US Supreme Court dismissed a case brought about by two gay men wanting to marry to where we are today.

"Florida voters in 2008 approved a definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman, one of literally dozens of states that adopted that definition. Virtually every time it was put on the ballot, voters approved that idea, including in California where a homosexual judge, Vaughn Walker, later overturned the vote of the people on Prop 8."

Read the interesting story... at WND where liberal judges are pushing the button on marriage that is supposed to be decided by the States, not the Federal courts, thus "ignoring the will of the people and trampling on the right of states to govern themselves," according to the governor of Oklahoma. Even on-line dictionaries have already re-written the definition of marriage.

And like every issue, it takes a lot of awareness from activists over time in order  to make change. The younger population having been  brought up with or by some who have lived through over 40 years of awareness on this subject have easily accepted equal marriage for all. The course of action continues to move in favor of  "equality" in marriage.

As one lesbian gal from Lake Worth said to me, as soon as you old folks die off and the church is irrelevant, gay marriage will be accepted by all.  As offensive as that statement is, even Evangelicals know "when to fold them" as they are backing off too

Even the Sheriff is complicit - llegals

Comment Up

Those in authority are encouraging more and more illegal aliens to walk across our borders with NO money, NO jobs and who are criminals to begin with simply by breaking our immigration laws. Thank God that governor Rick Perry of Texas is taking the matter into his own hands. Maybe he can sue the federal government for the mess it has caused and for dereliction of duty for the crisis created by President Obama on our nation's southern border.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says he will no longer hold illegal aliens in the county jail if they are arrested for shoplifting (this offense happens all of the time in Lake Worth--lock up everything Publix) or driving without a driver's license. He says that  he will release them immediately unless ICE goes before a magistrate. If they are arrested for a felony, that will be an exception. ICE doesn't have the time for this and now Bradshaw's policy opens up the floodgates for more and more illegals to drive without a license and commit petit theft. Don't we have enough crap in our city? Does this mean that the sheriff won't even bother to take a shoplifting call?

So, just break a law--so what?  Illegal aliens are criminals and our immigration laws are essential and must be enforced. But like everything else, Washington is doing nothing. We are on a disastrous path to overpopulation and chaos as seen right now at our southern border. It seems as if our country is no longer "ours" and criminals get treated with kid gloves.

There are ten states plus the District of Columbia that have extended the privilege of a drivers' license to illegal aliens.  This is nuts and by doing so only expedites the disaster.

This is unbelievable!

Quote of the Day - On Democrats

“Democrats today no longer, ‘ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country'. Democrats today are all ‘me, me, me, and gimmee, gimmee, gimmee'.”

Obama - Worse than a deer in the headlights

President Obama continues to slide in the polls.  This week he has a 43% approval rating. There are still some diehard supporters out there regardless of his lack of leadership and driving this country down. Yesterday, one of my best friends changed her Party to Republican.  Thousands of Democrats have seen the light.

We have an absolute disgrace and dangerous situation at our border that is totally out of control. According to an article by Allen West, "The administration was informed about the coming invasion (of children) as early as 2012 – of course at that time, there was an election to win. So could it be that Barack Hussein Obama was deliberately and willfully negligent in the discharge of his duties to protect the American people and the sovereignty of our Constitutional Republic? Did Obama violate Article 4, Section 4 of the US Constitution; “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion?”

Read more... on this "do nothing" president who can't or won't move or think or take the necessary actions to protect our country. This is worse than a deer in the headlights. In the meantime, and because of the non-action of Obama, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is taking leadership today that will cost Texans a fortune...he is expected to order 1,000 members of the Texas National Guard to defend the Rio Grande Valley. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Texas state surge is $1.3 million a week with the combined operation costing $5  million a week.

Just think if this scenario was happening in our state or in our city.  You could totally forget about the potholes then.

And here's the spin war verdict: the current Malaysia Airlines tragedy - the second in four months - is "terrorism" perpetrated by "pro-Russian separatists," armed by Russia, and Vladimir Putin is the main culprit. End of story. Anyone who believes otherwise, shut up.

Election dates in Lake Worth

A General Election is held in November of every even-numbered year. The Primary Election for nominating party nominees for the General Election is 12 weeks before the General Election. Additionally, a Presidential Preference Primary is held no earlier than the first Tuesday in January and no later than the first Tuesday in March of Presidential Election years. Special elections may be called at any time during the year. The election dates for 2014 are:

Primary Election........ August 26, 2014
General Election........ November 4, 2014

Depending upon who is sitting on the dais, our election month has been changed twice now in the last 8 years or so.  It was in March then it changed to November by vote of the people.  Those voting 7 years ago totaled 3,548 with 53.66% voting YES to November elections. Then this commission got a hold of it, convincing the voters that March was best after all and put it on the ballot in 2013 to move elections from November to March.

What the commission said at the time: "We want to improve voter turnout." It passed with 58.88%. This was also the downtown heights amendment where voters won at the polls who wanted to keep our downtown low-rise. This commission found a way to not honor the will of the people. They should have done the right thing.

Everyone went brain dead in five years or the turnover of voters was that great in our small city because the electorate again voted and it was changed back to March. The only time now that we don't get to vote in March is when this commission finds it advantageous to have an election at some other time. And that's exactly what they're doing with the General Obligation Bond--first, they will target the renters and all those who pay little in taxes. Next they are having this election on August 26 when few are here or notoriously do not go to the polls. So much for improving voter turn-out.

Confidence Level low

But--look for the city's $50,000 taxpayer funded campaign to begin soon

49% Say U.S. is in Economic Recession

The Rasmussen Consumer Index, which measures consumer confidence on a daily basis, slipped three points on Sunday, July 20 to 98.7. Consumer confidence is down seven points from a week ago, three points from a month ago and four points from three months ago.

Can anyone send this info to all those at city hall who are hell bent on grabbing $63.5 million of property owners' money which will equate to $131 million through its term? Resident confidence is fizzling out like the Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

Debt and Taxes

Some Trivia:
It used to be death and taxes, two things we were assured about.  Now we can add debt to the mix--

More Americans than ever say they owe more money than they did last year, and they’re more pessimistic about their future interest rates according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. It found that 34% of American Adults now owe more money than they did last year, up from 32% last month  and the highest finding in regular surveying since April 2009.

The latest annual inflation rate for the United States is 2.1% through the 12 months ended May 2014. We, as consumers, have felt inflation, which seems much higher, just in the normal staples that we need for daily basic sustenance. So, we are more in debt and the city and the county are raising taxes. If Lake Worth's bond referendum is approved by the voters, we will be the highest taxed city in Palm Beach County in a city occupied by residents making less than the national average.

The unemployment rate in Palm Beach County is at a low of 5.9% through May. People are finding jobs that aren't paying what they used to pay or in a totally different field. As you can see from the stats below, the majority of people in Lake Worth make far less than those who are calling the shots--staff at city hall and our elected representatives, those who want to put you in more debt for over thirty years.

Yes, we need some of our infrastructure repaired and/or replaced but what we don't need is a $131 million debt. It's the all or nothing approach we find so impossible to accept.

Movie being filmed in Lake Worth

Roving LW Photographer and Johnny On the Spot Reporter

Last night around 7:30 under a perfect sky there was excitement in the parking lot behind the Gulfstream Hotel as a technical film crew, actors and extras began to arrive for the making of a movie at our city’s most historic location! Some of you recall when the movie Body Heat was filmed in Lake Worth some thirty years ago.

Permits and police presence were all in place as the actors and extras in costume for this film in the horror genre (sans anything naughty) went from the front entrance to the second floor for makeup touch up and registration.

The filming went well into the night and at 12:30 a.m. a huge ‘Midnight Sun’ type vehicle could still be seen idling in front of the hotel. What fun!

The Pothole

Sinking to all time lows
