Tucker has dropped a bombshell by stepping down just one day after Zohran Mamdani clinched the mayoral race, as CBS News reports.Tucker's resignation, announced on Nov. 5, stems from deep ideological rifts with the incoming mayor, reflecting broader concerns among some Jewish New Yorkers and first responders about Mamdani's positions.
Appointed as FDNY Commissioner in August 2024, Tucker didn’t waste time making his exit known. In his first post-resignation interview with CBS Mornings, he hinted at a profound disconnect with Mamdani’s worldview. And let’s just say, this isn’t about a mere difference in coffee preferences.
Among the sticking points for Tucker, who is Jewish, is Mamdani’s refusal to back Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. This stance has rattled many in the Jewish community, with exit polls showing a mere 31% of Jewish voters supported Mamdani, while 65% threw their weight behind independent rival Andrew Cuomo.
