Where do we go from here? Post Election

Comment Up

We have a deception epidemic going on, not only nationally with politicians but right here in our own small city.  And I use the word "deception" as a mild example of what's going on--it is really lying through your teeth and getting away with it.

It used to be a great city where everyone knew everyone on a first name basis.  No one bothered with your property and you could sleep at night with your doors unlocked.  People told the truth. What has changed it?  The only conclusion that I have is density...more people, more crime, more deceit, more lies. Developers want control and politicians are being compromised for the love of money. It's all about greed and power.

In this past election we had two of the three campaign evils--Money and Lies.  The only thing missing was Sex and that was probably there somewhere. We just live in changed times now.  There is so much at stake in elections where deceit has become the norm and lies are tolerated. People know that politicians are telling lying whoppers but they don't care--it's about winning.  It's about what the best thing is for "me." And these people take no prisoners. It's perfectly alright to "bring down the other guy" because all is fair in love and war. And big money only gets involved if there is a reason.

Unfortunately, we still have a side in this city that has never succumbed to that love and war theory. They turn the other cheek but seethe in silence. They still want to be the good guys.  Send out nice little mailers...warm and fuzzy stuff that tell the truth. But good guys are no longer winning the game. Our city was up for grabs and there was a lot at stake. The developer side won. The Liars won.

Those who got annihilated and crushed like bugs are now asking, where do we go from here?

  1. I don't recall seeing anything about destroying John Prince Park to benefit baseball billionaires anywhere on Maxwell's campaign literature. Katie Mcgiveron

  3. All that can be done is sit back and watch the freight train roll in. Perhaps I should say, the bulldozer. The majority of people voted to destroy our city.

  4. It would be nice if you and Katie would just concede the loss and move on to something positive. Or are we going to have to read about the alleged lies that only you two see for the next 2 years? It's already boring and exhausting and it's only been a few days.

And as anon at 12:54 said, the majority of the people voted for them, so that only means if you're in that minority, maybe time to move since you just don't fit in any more. :''(

  5. I don't remember a time, ever, that I didn't need to worry about crime. So, I can't say that the Trio or CM is entirely responsible for crime and blight, but the progress forward on those two issues has been limited under this administration. They seem to be afraid of PBSO so they do nothing except spout the refrain, make the call y'all, over and over which is great but doesn't solve the problems. We need to understand why we pay so much to PBSO and get little in return, we need PBSO to reorganize patrols to do a better job of being proactive and less reactive. WE need code enforcement to focus on health and safety issues in an organized manner.

Way too much money in campaign which made it hard for challengers, although the challengers were not great in my opinion (although kudos for their efforts and gumption).

My preference is that you, who wants to change our city to Ft. Lauderdale or Delray, move. I would wager to say that I have lived here longer than you.

I'm going nowhere and will continue to write about all the evil that you do.

It's a bunch so I won't run out of things to write about.:)

  7. Crime is so bad in this city. This morning we woke up at about 8am seeing tons of police and fire by the city owned property on the corner of N L St and 5th Ave N. Evidently they found someone murdered or beat up here and have been here all day investigating, they had CSI and tons of police here, they had the whole scene taped off, this is a city owned building that looks like hell and attracts vagrants and crime, they city does not take care of it, it is overgrown and uncared for, people always trying to break in it, sleep on the porch, etc. There are so many homeless, druggies, and alcoholics here in this area. Our city has gone to hell, the police just come out to clean up the mess, we really need more policing in the area and city leaders need to clean up their city owned properties to prevent all this crime. I wonder if this will even be on the news tonight? CSI and police were here until after 2pm today, something bad must of happened. I am sick and tired of the crime here and it seems like no one ever does anything about it here. Andy and pam both represent this district, but what they hell are they doing about crime? Wait til it comes close to your house!

  8. Thank you Lynn! I applaud you and respect you for your love and gumption you have to this city. You care, that is what matters. The rest only care about the almighty $! Scott, pam, andy, they only care about $. Thanks for your truth, honesty, care, and love for this great little city. Stay on their asses and never give up fighting for this great little city by the sea. I just love you and all you do for our city! You are the best! God bless you always! Know that there are so many that love you and respect you and applaud all you are doing for this city. Thank you for caring enough to do what is right! God bless!

  9. Yes I do understand that my candidates lost. Unfortunately , I do not believe that a majority of voters in Lake Worth understand just what they are going to get as a result of this election. And that is very sad. But, Oh well, elections have consequences.
And as I said above, I don't recall seeing anything in Scott Maxwell's campaign literature about destroying John Prince Park for the sake of billionaire baseball club owners profit margins. But Scotty does always have his hand out to those who can fund him,,,,, Katie Mcgiveron

  10. The police are not in our neighborhoods. On election day in a twelve hour span, only TWO PBSO cars drove by on 12th ave south, a heavily traveled road in and out of my neighborhood. We had eyes on the road continuously from before 7 AM until after 7PM.

  11. News FLASH!!!! We are no longer Mayberry. Andy and Barney don't mosey through the downtown talking to Floyd and Aunt Bea is not baking apple pie with her apron on.

Deputies have to be ready AT ALL TIMES for some doped up thug wanting to clock a cop or some phone wielding videographer wanting to post only the few moments that make them look bad.

Get armed. Learn how to protect your home and life. The lowlifes keep getting lower and they are reproducing.

Crime is here to stay and no matter how much "patrolling" PBSO does, they can't stop crime from happening. All they can do is find the dirtbags and arrest them. The dirtbags are normally out of jail before the paperwork is complete. Sound familiar? Second verse, same as the first.

  12. I had never voted for the incumbents until this election..the candidates we put were not as good as usual and could not support what I saw as a lack of vision....the incumbents won convincingly...the people have spoken and given them a mandate

  13. Too bad you didn't read this blog more. Perhaps your perspective would have been different. Do you have any idea why they won "convincingly?"

  14. If we have to do our own crime enforcement, then PBSO needs to give back the more than half of our city budget that goes to them.

Why do we pay more than Wellington and get less services, don't you care that your tax dollars are being improperly managed by City leadership? Wouldn't you like to see more services for what you pay? I sure would. I don't have time to sit home all day with my gun and guard my property since PBSO is basically non-existent.

  15. Lynn I read your blog daily..but still think this slate of candidates were terrible..its my opinion and a number of people in my meighborhood who do not normally back the incumbents

  16. Ok, thanks Mitch. There were a few flaws but I found the incumbents were far worse.

  18. Anon at 2:13, I understand how you feel. The city can't take care of its' property is because it doesn't have enough employees. They gutted the departments in 2009-2010 and have done nothing to replace those employees. However, department heads all got a nice raise, even though there has been no change in the number of employees they oversee. For example, there are only 13 employees in the Public Works Department. I see them everyday and on the weekends. They have worked every event held over the last few months and it appears no one has gotten a day in weeks! They can't get a 4% raise (the first in years) unless they accept a change in their pension plan that would require them to work for 30 years before they can collect a pension! How would you feel getting to work one day and having your boss hit you with that news? Not to mention you've already worked there for over 10 years and are actively planning your retirement. Would you even apply for a job in this city knowing that? Our pay scale is so low we can't keep employees so it's a revolving door. They only work here until they can find a better paying job. That works for the incumbents because it keeps costs low if employees can't get vested in the pension plan. But we cam give the department heads a nice raise even though there has been no notable increase in the number of employees they oversee.

So let's talk about the police. They can only do what the city pays them to do. I'm sure when we renew our annual contract with PBSO we are only paying for an annual increase in cost; not for an increase in the number of officers provided. We don't even see a patrol car on our streets during the day any more. I live in the SW area of the city, so we see crime every day. We have dealers selling their wares in our alleys. We have told the PBSO rep at our Neighborhood Association meetings extensive details about this activity but they claim they can't do anything because they don't know what the Narcotics Division is working on. An arrest means they lose that officer for at least 2 hours while they take the offender to Submit Blvd for processing. ie., not enough officers for this city either. In the meantime we wait. But don't think the incumbents want to discuss these issues. After all they're to busy "moving forward". They give no importance to the role employees play in being part of the infrastructure of this city. They expect the PBSO to do more with what they have while they work on the densification of the city.

In the meantime other parts of the city are beginning to experience what we live with everyday. Perhaps when the people who bankrolled the incumbents back into office begin to complain and want to hold them accountable for what they haven't done, the rest of us will see an improvement in our areas.
