Nothing is sacred in Lake Worth--absolutely nothing.
The above trees are located on the north side of our Cultural Plaza. They are still happily growing and have been for well over 100 years it is estimated. They all have been the pride of Lake Worth. The banyan tree on the south side of the plaza was cut down. Nothing remains but sand and dirt. It has been said that someone on staff made the decision to cut it down deciding that it might be a liability. A few other trees are on his chopping block. He has apologized.
Who runs this city? I told Mr. Bornstein months ago that staff ran the city. He didn't believe me.
IF STAFF SAID IT WAS A LIABILITY WHO WAS IT--WHAT IS A LIABILITY IS THE TRASHY PEOPLE WHO HANG IN THE PLAZA SELLING DRUGS AND MENTALLY LAZY PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO USE TO OUR SOCIETY--THEIR WAS A CROSSDRESSER A YEAR AGO THAT WAS ASKING KIDS TO LICK HIS PUDDING AND IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET RID OF THE TRASH--NOW WE HAVE TO GET RID OF SOME OF THE TRASH THAT WORK FOR THIS CITY AND SOME CORRUPT PALM BEACH POLICE THAT BUY ILLEGAL STEROIDS--JUST HAVE TO LOOK AT SOME OF THEM --

ReplyDeleteHeard that it was Bornstein and Amoroso who wrote the list of trees to be removed but that the city supervisors Kibben and McGrew are taking the fall.
ReplyDeleteFigures soso amoroso had his puny paws in this. Couldn't the tree have been treated, was chopping down a last resort? Had the city even researched that option or tried? This is painful and seems business as usually in the city that can NEVER seem to get it together. What a shame, glad I only read about it and live in lovely Delray Beach. I read about Lake Worth drama because Delray's is far and few between and mudane and boring. At least your leaders, managers and staff serve as fodder for entertainment. I would love to see a skit by Letterman if he were to get wind of half of the stuff I read in the papers, here and other blogs about this crazy city!

Too bad you couldn't have found a picture of the tree that was removed. It was not a Banyan. It was a ficus that was infested with white fly. It was the topic of discussion due to it being diseased. Sounds like the new risk manager needs to get his chain of command straight.

What kind of shade tree do we want there? How about a real Banyan? No... sorry, they are also non-native and an invasive species.

ReplyDeleteThe Banyan and Ficus are of the same family. White fly can be treated. Carpenter ants can be treated. Any tree infestation can be treated. To remove a tree of this magnitude was extreme and wrong.
ReplyDeleteWhat would I like see? I would like to see the tree that was growing in that spot for an estimated 60 to 80 years back there and thriving. I would like to see more responsible people working for our city. What would I like to see? Call Hulett before you destroy a magnificent tree again.
You can't replace a tree like this worth tens of thousands of dollars. Ask the Tree Board how outraged they are over this.
And yes, I agree with you--it is too bad that I NEVER took a photo of that tree by itself.
FIRST of all, There should have been MORE Commission outrage over this horrible staff decision to take out this tree.Last night Mayor Pam Triolo REFUSED to let anybody from the tree board speak.Yeah it was a workshop ,but Triolo COULD have let them speak. Is anybody else tired of "horrible staff decissions" that just seem to be an accepted way of life here? I do not believe that Bornstein ordered that this tree be cut down. I do believe that Bornstein should be boiling mad at staff.Hopefully,he is.As city Manager,it is Bornstein's responsibility to get to the bottom of this,make the info PUBLIC (no cicling of the wagons),and fire the responsible parties. ReplyDeleteThat was the question. I would have liked the tree to remain. I would have liked to have had the tree board's input.
At this point, we can pave over it or replace it.
Can we change a negative into a positive?
You could ask the tree board but they have been castrated.

ReplyDeleteFast growing = soft wood. Increased chances for something not good happening. UNLESS its a weeping willow...fast growing and almost impossible to hurt....needs to be in the right location.

The city is going to have to explain what happened and how communication between city staff was allowed to be totally nonexistant.
Rumors are already flying around. That Amaroso and Bornstein ordered the tree to be cut down. That the risk manager for the city ordered it cut. SOMEBODY HAS SOME EXPLAINING TO DO !!!!!
