Nursing Home Death reaps big reward

Comment Up

Big awards going on in Lake Worth lately. Just last week the city commission awarded $1.6 million to Greater Bay LLC for non-performance at our Lake Worth beach...the city said it had a 50/50 chance of winning the case. Of course, when the suit was taken on three years ago, it was said to be a "slam dunk."

Now we have another case. This one involved a death at the nursing home once operating under the name Lake Worth Manor on 12th Avenue South. Prior to that in 2010, their was a different suit filed that charged that the nursing home engaged in racketeering to defraud Medicare and Medicaid and preyed on vulnerable adults. The suit said that Lake Worth Manor failed to provide adequate treatment to patients or improperly kept them until they developed other diseases that could restart government payments.

Read about their current problem--

Lake Worth Nursing home must pay $1.8 million for patient's neglect and eventual death

  1. Having been on a few of these homes may I make a suggestion? If your loved one ends up in a facility you MUST be the checker of pits and parts. The easiest way (if the patient can walk and stand) is to have them hold onto the bathroom handicapped bar and bend over. Older men get rashes when their 'parts' are packed into a 'depends' and they all get bed sores form lack of motion/blood flow. Never mind germs. A friends husband suffered for weeks till she did the 'inspection'. She taught the help how to do the same.

The help will also watch what you watch for. If they know you are checking - they make sure they have done the job!

  2. I really feel sorry for those in rehabs or nursing homes who have no family to look out for them. Years ago, my grandfather was at Eason's I believe it was called then at the corner of A and 6th avenue south recouping from something. When family went to visit (which was 3 times a day to make sure that he ate and got bathed), he was laying on the floor, uncovered, with no aide in sight. The explanation was that they placed him there because they were changing the bed sheets.

If you want your family member to survive a nursing home experience, be there and take action.

  3. What wonderful family members who dumped their "loved" one in this pit will reap the 1.8 million dollar reward? Oh yeah, the LAWYER will get the money from this persons suffering! Anyone else for MANAGED LEGAL CARE? Lawyers told how much they can charge per case by the government-just like our Dr.s.

  4. No one "dumps their loved ones" in nursing homes. the facilities are recommended by doctors and their insurance company. Get a grip.

  5. If you factor in the legal fees the city actually paid out $2.4 million to settle the GB case. This blog and the lies it spread were noted as one of the big reasons the city was going to lose the lawsuit.
    Any regrets Lynn?

  6. As I recall our inept counsel cited the PBPost, two commissioners, citizens, WELovePAC and bloggers (with an S). All of his reasoning was worth about 50 cents. I believe that he owes us hundreds of thousands of dollars for being a jerk. Can we bill him please?

I never have regrets with the truth.
