Stepping up to the Plate

Comment Up

John Szerdi, architect with Living Designs, has decided to run for Commissioner District 4. Also, a College Park resident, Milton Araugo, says he will run for Mayor in 2013.

Szerdi, President of Living Designs Group in Lake Worth, is involved in our beach redevelopment. Someone ask him why estimates are coming in $2 million over our Budgeted bond amount of $5 million.

  1. Perhaps a good thing? His business now will be off limits for Lake Worth contracts. On the other hand, we will have developer overload in our city.

  2. I hope Sussie Clueless does not back out... it is going to be a pleasure watch her loose big time...

  3. Well, by that comment anonymous, it just shows you have NO BALLS and that you are one of the more nasty people in town. My hope is that people such as yourself come forward and post under your real names so that we know who the most "clueless" people really are in this city. But that won't happen. No guts. Little wimps. :)

  4. Suzanne Mulvehill has always been in office for the betterment of Lake Worth, not for self enrichment. She has never cost the city any money unlike many who came before her such as Vespo. If you hold the fire assessment against her and condemn her for one issue, than you are a bigger fool than you know.

  6. Is this the contractor who built the John Romano UGLY LIFELESS,Concrete box(CHEAPEST CONSTRUCTION method, JOHN!!!),with unfinished ceiling ,(John swallowed with a CON explanation as modern) on our Lake Avenue entrance, with no graceful architectural detailing,
to our Center To Downtown? This Contractor, wants to sneak a Commission seat from OUR City like the permit on the sneak, for the Concrete box attached to our graceful, elegant Mediterranean style 1921 Casino building!Such Contractor, would make OUR whole City into many storied, concrete boxes, with open, unfinished ceilings and allow all developers this cheap construction method, billing for full ones, against Lake Worth's
diversified, but definitely architecturally evolved styles from cave man boxes:
Mediterranean,Federal and pretty, cozy looking attractive Key West!
Concrete box structures in Lake Worth are used only for storage warehouses and Nationally, for prisons, however, with finished ceilings! Not with unfinished open ceiling, like the John Romano ordered, STILL BORN which no culturally evolved person is proving to like, and therefore is still, vacant, being avoided by businesses, not even warehouse Co's want it.Legitimate Warehouses require fire proof covered ceilings!Unfinished ceilings save the contractor money, and can be billed down the owners' throat,as finished, with a con story, as most people know nothing about
    real construction costs!!!
The Citizens of Lake Worth voted to pay only for and were informed only of the Mediterranean 1921 re-created Lake Worth Casino, with OUR money. A sneaky self, not Citizens serving Commission Majority,
managed to get us to pay for same cheap construction, with full price charged, hostile , stillborn, concrete box,
disgracing our elegant Palm Beach Island Ocean front Beach land.

The present Commission shall see to it that that box has a finished, closed ,fireproof ceiling,we are forced to pay for, unlike John Romano's proven for years, unwanted vacant, concrete box.
This contractor, who sneaked a concrete box onto our Beach against Citizens wishes for style, wants to sneak a Commission seat out of our hands. Thinking, honest Lake Worth Citizens do not vote
    for a sneak again!
Developers will be able to sneak permits for concrete boxes all ove r OUR Town!

  7. Wow. the campaign season is starting already. It seems like we just finished one. Pretty soon we all will be getting more junk mail and more bs. These people never tell you how they can do it better.

  8. Oh no, he's the one who supported Lisa Maxwell who was clueless on the budget.

  9. Why would you ask an architect about construction costs?

REG is the architect of record on the Casino building. John Szerdi was contracted to assist on the LEED Standard items in the building. Substantially all of John Szerdi's work product has been excluded from the Casino, resulting in the building not qualifying for a LEED certification, as promised.

How can you call the recently disclosed Casino costs as cost overruns as they have always been known to Staff, REG and Morganti--they just were unreported.

While we have long heard from Commissioner Maxwell that there were unreported Casino costs, I can't ever remember hearing that from Commissioner Mulvehill. Why didn't she exhibit the same level of oversight as he did?

  10. You sure like to sling it.

  11. This will be a LEED certified project. Compliance with the project documents, IAQ, and Waste Management Plans are required. Each successful subcontractor agreed to provide the necessary documents required to obtain applicable LEED credit.

You are right above when you say that they are NOT cost over-runs. They are not over-runs until you spend the money. What they are--costs by all those involved to grab the cash. Totally B.S. and unnecessary.

  12. You are making an assumption that John did not discuss these costs with the City Manager early on. Does it seem strange to anyone that the cost overruns did not come out until Stanton was fired. Stanton controlled all information coming out of City Hall. We are just learning what she kept from the commission and there is more to come. So before you attack anyone get the facts.

  13. Okay now. You want us to believe that Szerdi knew information about more costs and NEVER revealed this to the commission? That he kept all of this impt BS TO HIMSELF? F*&^ing swell and now he wants to BE a commissioner? Christ--it just gets ridiculous with you people.

  14. As you never believe any truth posted on your blog, I suggest you check with Kathleen Margolis about the total lack of LEED Certification for the Casino. Be sure to ask her the number of points for the Shell and the number of points "potential" for the Tenants. Adding them together will not be enough for the lowest level of LEED Certification.
That is why Kathleen Margolis never bothered to contract for anyone to submit the paperwork for LEED Certification for the Casino.

  15. Is there any reason under the sun that anyone should believe ANYTHING an anonymous writes/comments here? I'll ask. At one of the last meetings on the Casino it was stated that the building would be LEED...not Silver but LEED. So, if you know something, show the facts, the link and at least stand up to your convictions. Thanks.

  16. Oh no! We have an college educated professional and another bum that lives in College Park and probably pays his mortgage running for office. We're doomed!

  17. I was told that no outside contractor was ever allowed to speak directly to any city commissioner unless Stanton said it was ok. All information was on lockdown per Stanton's orders. Even the City Attorney was limited by Stanton. Perhaps this was one of the reasons she was sent bye bye.

  18. Since a LEED Certification runs around $50,000 for the application paperwork, has that been approved in either the FY 11-12 Budget or the recentlt disclosed additional costs.
I think not. It seems the casino is as Green as it is Renovated.

  19. John-That was the right idea. All vendors need to come through the CM, not the commission in order to aleviate any impropriety or possible corruption. The Commission only sets policy. We will never know why she was sendt "bye bye" because the Trio NEVER TOLD US.

As far as the LEEDS, you are really making a big deal out of this. It was all within the $6 million budget on the casino. It was never separated out of that budget. If the building will not meet the lowest LEED standard, then that is something that has not been disclsoed in a public meeting.

Can we all agree in order to make the other blogger happy that this building is NEW.

  20. "Is there any reason under the sun that anyone should believe ANYTHING an anonymous writes/comments here?" Lynn, since you and some of your blogger friends here have such issues with anonymous posters on YOUR blog, why don't you just do us all a favor and do away with the option to post anonymously? You seem to have such issues with anyone posting this way so just don't allow it then! save yourself a lot of grief.

  21. Basically, the only things I have problems with on anonymous posting are the lies. The next thing are those sick little puppies who come over here to personally attack me in very vile ways. They are not posted. I use the delete key. But even if I eliminated the anonymous feature, someone could make-up a fictious name, still post and still be anoynmous. It is easier deleting. Now and then I allow the stupid post just to show people what we are dealing with in this city...a lot of misinformed and some very sick people. You have that everywhere. Lake Worth is not unique, however, we do have a lot of socialists who hate my politics, and some people who bundle me in to the anarchist crowed for whatever reason and think that I am a socialist and hate my politics. Nutty. It is one mixed up crazy place. Politics can bring out the very worst in people.
