Sanctuary City and now a Municipal ID card?

Well, today I will hear from the other side of politics in Lake Worth as this blog is about the CRB's idea of identification cards for the illegal immigrant. They will tell me that there is no such thing as "illegal." This is the extreme "left" side in Lake Worth. We heard from the extreme "right" side yesterday. I am just as ready for you as I was for all of those who were after Panagioti because of his declared "anarchist" status and what he didn't say or was allowed to say on Monday night, curbing his right to free speech.
On Monday night, the then secretary of the Community Relations Board, Jennifer Vanfosson, stated that she wants to research the possibility of giving undocumented immigrants an identification card. She had lived here for 8 months before she applied to the CRB and lived in the 400 block of North H Street. When she applied for the Community Relations Board, she said that she had "great PR skills, as well as CSR (community service?) skills that are basically needed by this City...community needs to be in touch with the employer in this city." What about E-Verify, Ms. Vanfosson?
Her Municipal ID idea allows undocumented immigrants (illegals) to open bank accounts, apply for hospital services, check out library books, access city facilities and even take a cross-country flight. These illegals cost the American citizens millions of dollars every year. What is the drive for these illegals to become citizens when everything is handed to them? We even print information in Spanish in Florida and in Lake Worth to make it easier for them not to learn English. You must be able to read, write, speak, and understand words in ordinary usage in the English language if you really want to become a citizen. There are a few exceptions.
Local officials have totally neglected U.S. laws and have allowed this City to become a haven for illegals. Rep. Jeff Clemens added to the rise in undocumented immigrants coming here when he voted to open The Resource Center. The city officials looked the other way as the churches and other organizations encouraged people to cross our borders illegally and settle in Lake Worth. Lake Worth became a Sanctuary City. It is a known fact that sanctuary cities are also a safe haven for criminal activities.
There was a big migration before the economy tanked. Many illegal immigrants before they even crossed our borders learned of our U.S. Constitution Amendment 14 and after they arrived, quickly had children who became instant U.S. citizens. The law states: In the United States, citizenship is governed by federal law. The basic requirement is set forth in the Fourteenth Amendment, which Congress passed in 1866. The very first sentence of that amendment says: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States." This Amendment needs to be amended.

As such, we have protected the illegal immigrant by non-action, by an antiquated 14th Amendment, and by shifting the blame to the federal government's lack of enforcement as the excuse for doing nothing. We have, as a government, coddled the undocumented person by ignoring any stand to uphold federal law. Knowing that federal and state laws have no teeth, we now have a Community Relations Board that has a strong member, Ms. Vanfosson, who now wants to give illegal immigrants the first step towards amnesty by issuing them ID cards.

There is no reason why a city volunteer board should be allowed to condone illegal activity at taxpayer expense or encourage a first step towards amnesty by promoting Municipal Identification Card for illegals.

Illegal immigration is a crime.
Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, "Improper Entry by Alien," any citizen of any country other than the United States who:
  • Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers; or
  • Eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers; or
  • Attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact;
has committed a federal crime.

Violations are punishable by criminal fines and imprisonment for up to six months. Repeat offenses can bring up to two years in prison. Additional civil fines may be imposed at the discretion of immigration judges, but civil fines do not negate the criminal sanctions or nature of the offense.
What Ms. Vanfosson is suggesting is much more serious than anything I heard on Monday night--blocking the Chair's right to the First Amendment but instead wanting to violate federal law by making it easier for illegals to migrate to Lake Worth by promoting a Municipal ID card.
As a citizen, I believe that the Community Relations Board should disappear quickly into the sunset.

  3. Have to agree with you on this one. CRB needs to be shut down. Panioti has no place in a legitimate position anywhere in OUR country. If he is so concerned with the standard of living for immigrants, he should go to their country to fight for their rights. Oh wait, he would be deported because even Mexico and Guatemala have immigration laws that they enforce against non-citizens. Oh the irony of being an anarchist/freedom fighter/Che Guevara wanna be. Well, he can always apply for citizenship down there. We will miss you, but I think you will be much happier.

  4. I was outside last night just before sunset and gorgeous pink clouds filled the sky. I thought of your extraordinary moon and sunset pictures and said to myself 'I hope Lynn gets a pic of the sunset'. And so you have Lynn, showing our city bathed in a brilliant glow of gold! There are laws of nature and laws of the land – both deserve to be honored.

  5. As I posted on the other article I think the CRB is a great idea, we are a multi cultural city and it makes sense to reach out to all residents to communicate. My example, after almost hitting immigrant biker after bike, the City should reach out to the immigrant population on bike saftey, traffic laws, etc.

    But I am against the idea of ID cards. I don't agree that we are a sactuary city, the PBSO regularly cross references those arrested in our city with ICE deportation rolls.

    We can't as a local City enforce the federal immigration laws which have been unenforced for decades (see big biz for cheap labor as the reason behind that one).

    I think we end up with more and more illegal immigrants in our city, and most are good and decent people trying to make a better life for themselves and their family, because the illegals attract the illegals. Our schools end up catering to ESOL kids, which attracts more ESOL kids, etc. Plus our housing stock is cheap so it costs less to rent in our city and we've got landlords who will rent to 10 guys who each pay $200 a month for a mattress on the floor in a tiny cottage. That is the going rate as my husband was approached when our rental property was last available.

    We would do a better job at being inhospitable, if that is the goal, by targeting the slum lords and using code enforcement.

  7. anony at 2:04 did you forget about what illegal means? Who cares if they are good and decent people. There are thousands of them in our jails all across the country who are not good and decent people. they need to enter the country correctly. Bottom Line.

  8. Where is John Doerr's credibility when he told a generation of MBA students he did the right thing by firing Steve Jobs? John Doerr should ask Kit Wong why Chinese engineers only sought venture capital when they were out of work and Wong told them to start restaurants to learn entrepreneurship as they rejected Wong when they had safe jobs. Foreign students can be bright, but faculty exaggerate their brilliance because foreign students are servile in doing work and favors for faculty and not demanding that professors actually earn their tuition keep. Moreover, faculty like that foreign students are either afraid, complicit or morally ambivalent about the immoral grant guzzling behavior of professors. In many cases they are more likely to share the professors' anti-Americanism than American students. Meanwhile perfectly good American engineers have to get jobs at Home Depot. And Google cancels my account for saying these things but dares to complain about censorship. Why should the liberal media get SOPA protection?
