If a man could have half his wishes, he would double his troubles.
~Benjamin Franklin
A lot of people were wishing and even praying over this last election for their favorite candidate to win. Of course, only the well wishes for two were fulfilled. Sometimes getting what you wish for isn't exactly what you would expect or eventually what you ever wanted. It never works out exactly the way you wished or hoped it to. That's life.
As Dustin now proudly displays a poster on his web site, revenge never works either. When politicians set their minds on exacting revenge, they actually do more harm to themselves than they will ever do to their target.
Yes, Waterman was defeated but if she had really wanted to be our mayor, her entire conduct would have been different from the very first day she entered the Chamber to take the oath. It all started then when she walked down the middle isle not acknowledging one person in the chamber that was filled with mostly her supporters. She walked right by as if we were invisible. Perhaps she was nervous but it was most unusual especially not even to smile during that moment that was supposed to be happy. Everyone there had worked arduously and tirelessly for her victory.
A few months later she even dissed the blogs when this blog did everything within its power to help her during that special election. There was never a thank you, never a nod, never. Bloggers don't write for the "thank yous" and typically we hear from the disgruntled much more often. We set off nerves and we give our points of view that make people smile, make them angry or give them a thought that goes against their grain from time to time. Our objective is to tell the story as we see it and we know that we will ruffle some feathers. But we are not elected officials who just took your money or took your time to get elected.
I truly believe that Rachel Waterman could have been a great mayor, if she had wished it. Perhaps she just did not wish hard enough or long enough or took the time to listen to us. So, all of us should be careful what we wish for because we never really know what we will get. Just like that marriage certificate, you don't know the person until you sign on that dotted line.
Waterman never wanted to be Mayor, she was just Cara's pet project. Cara knows she will never be elected mayor, show she is going to shove puppets down our throats.
ReplyDeleteWho ever you are, you are still spouting the same old line of bull. Cara had nothing to do with Rachel's campaign. Get over it please. You continue to say that; it is a false accusation as is the anarchist theory. Fantasy.
ReplyDeleteI think Waterman got what she wanted - to be Mayor. The problem is she wanted it for a different reason than her supporters. We wanted someone with our vision for LW and she wanted the power. Maybe that explains the walk down the center isle. Waterman slipped on day and said "I rule" and that says it all. Lake Worth isn't a ditatorship and her arrogance turned off a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteThe City Manager is another example of someone who is power hungry and will do anything for control. Hopefully the change in the City Commission will result in that group assuming their responsibility to oversee the CM and hold her accountable for the operation of our great city.
The dog will finally wag the tail and not the other way around.
ReplyDeleteJoyously,
Mark A. Parrilla
Hopefully waterman will be a thing of the past.
ReplyDeleteShe will be if we quit talking about it. Move On so she can move on and we can move forward!
ReplyDeleteLynn, you are totally wrong. Cara was 100% behind Rachel's campaign and Rachel was 100% Cara's puppet. I am a former member of the cabal, but decided to leave them behind because it went too far for me, but I know for a fact that Rachel was hand picked by Cara. Is it really that hard to see or believe?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely IMPOSSIBLE to believe an anonymous poster. Under the shadows, you can say anything about anyone. I am an ax murderer. So and so does drugs. So and so beats her spouse. It is totally meaningless. You know it and so does everyone else.
ReplyDeleteFormer member of the cabal? Probably MP. No I can assure you that Rachel came to office on her own and Cara played no role in her campaign. I am amazed at how powerful Cara is. She is no where near lake worth and yet people are sure that every time something happens that they don't approve of that she is behind it. Amazing. Let me say one thing... If Cara was behind Rachel I can guarantee you that she would not have lost. :)
ReplyDeleteCheers people!
Lynn want to take a stab at explaining how Waterman went from promising to campaign for Cara on facebook to running herself 24 hours later? How all of the same cabal folks that worked for Golden, Mcoy Mulvehill & Jennings worked for Waterman? And you say there is absolutely no connection? The previous post is correct. Cara knows she's politically toxic and can't get elected anymore so she uses puppets. Cara knows their bad decisions are coming home to roost and she wants to distance herself from them.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you write some fiction. Publish it in LW. Maybe you will make a buck 98 about cabals and Cara and all the nonsense.
ReplyDeleteI know of one poster who has no problem giving his name, who was once recruited by the cabal "that doesn't exist" and is very willing to tell his story to anyone who will listen.
ReplyDeleteLynn, while you and I agree and disagree on a variety of issues, I don't consider you naive. That you don't recognize the dangerous element in a number of these avowed anarchists is beyond comprehension.
I didn't see you at "occupy LW" and you didn't say much about it if anything. Not that everyone there was an anarchist... they weren't. But there were many "progressives" which is a step in that direction and there were many anarchists!
If you truly don't think Jennings is an anarchist, look at her facebook page and follow the signs.
She has protested against our country's own border patrol, our country's only ally in the middle east, our own policies to moving Lake Worth forward. And that's to say nothing of her friend Panyiogoti Tszolczks, echo steiner, javier the racist, and even her appointees on boards in the city.
Please wake up.... the coffee is finally starting to cool off.
Your obvious enchantment of our recent mayor and your statements saying that you sat out this election ring hollow. You defended her every time someone brought out negative facts. I personally didn't think her hair should have been an issue, but you didn't call that petty. You should have.
You could find nothing wrong with Pam, but could not bring yourself to support her. She was and is a good candidate. But you could never say that. You just kept defending the un-defendable. Just like the little tidbit above of how she strode down the isle not acknowledging any of her supporters. Wasn't THAT a hint?
When's the last time ANYONE was ejected from a commission meeting before her reign? They were "HER" commissioners. The loitering that looks so bad as you enter our city from the West, according to her, was the "un-documented immigrant's 'downtown'" much like the our downtown is for us white skinned privileged classes only.
Sure, our culture needs to "meld" into theirs and not the other way around.
Give me a break.
We finally have a chance at a majority that acknowledges the importance of a strong middle class and businesses needed to help support the rest of our city.
I guess you don't read this blog that much. I am a middle of the road conservative who hates Socialists or anyone closely resembling one. I have written against illegals a hundred times.
ReplyDeleteI was at the Occupier Lake Worth to take photos of the anarchists.
Because you did not see me there does not mean that I wasn't there. I did write about it and have written about the entire idea of it on several occasions. In fact, why were YOU there?
You know, it is easy to pin labels on people but PLEASE, know what you are accusing me of or anyone else. Enchantment of Waterman? Know what in hell you are talking about, ok?
As far as not endorsing Pam--I didn't endorse anyone. I thought I had mentioned that--at this point for me, I believe that all politicians turn out to be the same. Let's see how it all plays out. I do not trust the developer side of politics in this City. Never have. Never will. I hope that I can be surprised.
As far as acknowledging the importance of the middle class goes--smart move. We need to get our middle class back as do ALL cities across this country. Do you think LW is unique in that respect? Once the federal government decides how to get business motivated and create jobs, it will be awhile. This is not LWorth's fault here or Waterman's or any other commissioners. It is so easy to blame people. Your problem is that you can't find anything good about anyone who does find good in someone.
SO, YOU CAN GIVE ME THE BREAK.
anony at 4:07. This blog was certainly not enchanted with Rachel. In fact, I think Lynn told it accurately. If you go to the right side of this blog you will find 11 references to Occupy Wall Street and what she thinks about these people. Can I also say that you have jumped to a false conclusion. You are making judgments based on no facts of the matter.
ReplyDeleteHelen M.
What part of the post at 3:07 was fiction 3:58?
ReplyDeleteYou reference MP above so I take it that is Mark Parila. He is always talking about cabals and stuff, gets it from Wes who he likes to emulate. Two characters with views unlike mine.
ReplyDeleteThis new commission will be a disaster. Wait and see.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this commission will be a disaster.........for some people. Particularly for those who are obsessed with where Publix gets there tomatos, for those who would literally take a bullet for a turtle, for those who want to turn the Park of Commerce into a rain forrest. It will be a disaster for those who want to close the beach at 6 pm, unless, of course, the drum bangers are in town. We can keep it open for them. It will be a disaster for those who want to keep some roads on the south side unpaved and for those who hate the Sherriff. For those who have changed the old slogan to " A chicken in every backyard!" and for those who believe that no government is better than good government. For those who view garbage piled on the street as a form of modern art, for the compost crowd, and for those who want to set the national record for the longest kayak course in a city. You are correct: this commission will be a disaster for some people.
ReplyDeleteMost everything stated by anony at 11:06 was a huge, and I do mean HUGE, exaggeration.
ReplyDeleteNo one is obsessed where Publix gets its tomatoes. Cara Jennings was asking them to pay their pickers one penny a pound more.
Most people in this world do care about animals and all God's creatures. Sorry you are so blaze about turtles and all. It is of great importance to teach children respect for life so that when they become an adult will not feel as you do about turtles or any other living thing.
Actually, it is impossible to address your comments because they really are off the wall, humorous and highly sarcastic and as such, I will ignore commenting on all of the rest.
Let's just see how your favored officials "fix" it all--to your liking, of course, as there are only 36,000 other people in this city who might respect our beach, its closing time and all the rest of it.
What I thought was humorous about the whole tomato thing was they were taking it out on the architect! He designs buildings! He has nothing to do with who picks or how they get paid. It was another publicity stunt to show her followers she "cares".
ReplyDeleteHere's a guy that was paid to design a building, under 35' high, and keep it within Publix's and the city's guidelines. He comes up with a design that fits what is required and is quite proud of it. Now he comes into give a presentation and he gets ambushed by a gap-toothed anti-business, punk and her grandma about how the company who contracted with him treats someone else's employees.
One of many who leave that chamber shaking their heads.
Hi Lynn,
ReplyDeleteGlad you recognize tongue in cheek when you read it. I was more poking fun at the absurdity of the prior comments predictions---that the this Commission will be a disaster. Who really knows? I did, however, also want to point out some of the absurd topics prior Commissions have agonized over, absurd in comparison to pulling an Inspector Clouseau and watching $10 million of our reserves fly at out the door with nary a peep.
Hi Lynn,
ReplyDeleteEveryone loves a cabal because attempts to deny its existence affirms its nebulous reach.
To those who feared Cara as puppet master I just ask-who are your candidate's advisers? We learned with Obama and W. that knowing the candidate is not as important as knowing who they go to for advice.
