Lake Worth, Florida has always been a family town, a town with small town charm, filled with unique shops and super friendly people. You can bring Fido as long as he is on a leash. Parking is free. Everyone who visited yesterday to stroll the Avenues in order to buy or just window shop on a beautiful day was reminded of our family friendly city that is full of delights. Some of the comments:
"I prefer this to the mall. The malls have the same stores and merchandise."
"I believe in the local business culture here; I like the feel of the town."
"We just moved from London two months ago and we love Lake Worth."
Read more about it at The Palm Beach Post.
We, along with these folks who visit our city, also want to keep our Lake Worth beach park a family destination with a soon to be built brand new casino where we can have a bite to eat, an ice cream cone and buy our suntan oil.
What about a name drop t-shirt?
ReplyDeleteIf you are talking about "exclusives" at our casino, I see everything wrong with shops all selling the same things. What about if we put in two Johnny Longboats? That would be pretty silly, right? However, Commissioner Amoroso thinks the free market should prevail. Normally he likes to encourage businesses to survive and do more to help that end. Not in this case. It's what is called, "taking the easy way out."
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the bar where all the 20 somethings can hang.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with a bar per se--just the closing time for it that Longboats wants. Anyone in the bar business will want to stay opened as long as it possibly can to ensure that it attracts all those wanting a last call drink and those who want to listen to loud music. Been there. Done that. I just don't want it at the beach.
ReplyDeleteI'm a family guy now with 3 kids. Sure, I went bar hopping with the best of them when I was younger. Got drunk too. Sometimes people actually grow up. I think of our beach as a beach first. We need a good restaurant there that I can afford and one that doesn't have rowdy beer types and kids. That's what's going to happen here. Some group or another will find this place and it will be taken over. Even if I wanted to stop in there to have a nightcap, I am rather sure it will not be the place that I would want to go. I think it will be much more expensive than John G's. Pizza might be all that I can afford. As far as downtown goes, I usually take my family to Rotelli's. They like spaghetti and meatballs and the subs.
ReplyDeleteI am just Happy that the city is moving forward, and if it means putting in a Bar with a 2 am closing, I see nothing wrong with that. For Years we had JG'S that refused to stay open so that if you wanted to go to an early dinner at the beach you could not.
ReplyDeleteHaving an early dinner at the beach and then comparing that to a 2am bar closing is inconsistent. An early dinner to me is 6pm or before.
ReplyDeleteIt would have to Lynn Bedtime is 7pm
ReplyDeleteNo, it takes me much longer than that to hit the sack. I have to take out the teeth, take out the hearing aid and then remove the artificial leg and remove my wig. This takes 4ever. Besides, I would never miss Bill O'Reilly.
ReplyDeleteTry Johnny Longboat's at the Singer Island beach, I thought it was a good match for the beach scene. Yes it is a bar and they serve alcohol, but they also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and the two or three times we have been there it is a family atmosphere. I don't really understand the JL haters especially those who have not visited the Singer Island location. I understand the concern about late hours at the beach and giving over 1/3 of the square footage of the casino to one establishment but I don't understand the other comments.
ReplyDeleteNo one "hates" Johnny Longboats.
ReplyDeleteLooks like our "Unique little town" ran out of holiday lights once Dixie Hwy was reached. I do think the lights that were put up East of Dixie look great though. Thanx!
