With regard to the Lake Worth commissioners considering allowing "dog parks" and "making plastic bags available for pet waste," I advise them all to take a walk in Bryant Park any weekday morning. Just be sure to stay on the path, as this beautifully and expensively renovated park is a minefield of dog waste that no one ever bothers to pick up.
They can see the groups of dog owners throwing sticks and playing with half a dozen dogs at a time while noting the posted pet waste sign (Ordinance 99-4) and plastic bags at the north entrance that go unused.
Get a grip, folks. People cannot be encouraged to pick up after their pets because they don't even pick up after themselves.
Take a walk downtown on Lucerne Avenue and observe the sidewalks and storefronts encrusted with cigarette butts (more dog poop!) and other litter despite our new (expensive) purple garbage cans being within a few feet. In a town where the city fathers pride themselves on such progressive ideals as going "green," our major asset, the beach, is one big ashtray.
The commissioners should budget for some garbage bags, take a morning stroll and see what their future plans will result in. Over and over again. It stinks.

Well the dogs are in the parks already,as the writer of the letter to the editor stated. The best solution for everyone, dogs included ,would be to have a designated dog park where dogs could safely go off-leash. Most dog owners are responsible, and would gladly let their pets run there. A fenced, designated dog park would be easier to upkeep than a whole park.As for Lucerne or Dixie looking bad, the owners are going to have to keep their businesses looking good. There will always be uncaring ,litterbug pigs walking around.
ReplyDeleteThe city could buy the Sunset parcel and designate an acre to a doggy park.
ReplyDeleteBeing "progressive means never having to care about garbage. Since our progressives have taken power the city has continued to get dirtier and dirtier. Of course they'll say there's no money but they effed that up too.
ReplyDeleteYou have a very short memory but then that's politics for you. It was Clemens, Vespo and Lowe who caused the monetary damage in this city. Clemens was the one who encouraged more illegals into our city by voting for the resource center. Don't know who is responsible for Union Contracts but it certainly is NOT this administration.
