Reflection

Our 16th President, considered the greatest of all time, lead this country from 1861 until the day he was assassinated in 1865. Not only did he have to lead through our greatest internal crisis but he supervised the war effort and personally selected his top generals.

As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of the war."

George Washington, our first president and the Father of our Country, is right up there as one of our greatest presidents.

As we made a decision to end the Veterans Day celebration here in Lake Worth in 2007, I have to wonder if the Palm Beach County School system even teaches anything about it.
