Hasan’s Public Execution

Hegseth faces international law claims over plan to broadcast Fort Hood shooter’s execution

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is accused of breaching international law for planning to livestream the Army firing-squad execution of Fort Hood terrorist Nidal Hasan, a move the UN and senators call a public spectacle.

Hegseth laid out the plan Thursday while speaking from the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln. He told conservative influencer Jack Posobiec on Real America’s Voice that Hasan’s death would not stay private.

“We’ll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public,” Hegseth said. He added a clear reason: “People need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things.” The Daily Mail reported the remarks and the backlash that followed.

Days earlier, the Pentagon announced that Hegseth had recommended, and President Donald Trump had approved, death by Army firing squad. It would be the first U.S. military execution since 1961. Army rules require the sentence to be carried out within 150 days of the president’s approval. That timeline now sits at the center of a fight over whether the American public should see it.

Nidal Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, opened fire at the Texas base known as Fort Hood on November 5, 2009. He shot dead 12 soldiers and one civilian in an Islamist terror attack. Police shot and paralyzed him during the rampage. It remains the deadliest attack ever carried out on a U.S. military installation.

  1. As a Catholic I would never watch this but I do not agree with the death penalty or abortion or euthanasia they are all forms of murder and I do not want to see or hear or know anything about murder it is wrong! It's one of the 10 commandments! Two wrongs do not make a right just because somebody killed somebody doesn't mean that we should be killing them and Pope Leo is right it's wrong and we should not be killing and using the death penalty! Only God should do that we should keep him in jail and let them suffer and rot in hell for the rest of their lives but it's not our place to kill them!

  2. Well, you have your religious opinion. Capital Punishment is NOT murder.
