Leaders with activist résumés and zero executive experience waltz into office, gut the tools that actually keep people safe, and then act baffled when disorder takes over.

It’s a governing philosophy that treats public safety as an afterthought – somewhere below equity task forces and camera-shy policing on the priority list.

Eventually, though, citizens stop shrugging. They stop waiting for the next election cycle and start demanding accountability now. That moment has arrived in one of America’s most famously left-leaning cities – and the vehicle is a rarely used democratic mechanism that should make every negligent mayor nervous.
