FBI Seizes Swalwell’s Phone At Airport – Then Searches His Home
Federal agents seized former Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell’s electronic devices at a California airport before searching his Washington, D.C., home the following day as part of a criminal investigation connected to sexual-assault allegations, according to multiple reports.Agents confronted Swalwell after he landed at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday and executed a search warrant covering his cellphone and other electronics, sources familiar with the investigation told CNN.
The FBI then executed another warrant at his residence Sunday and removed additional devices or potential evidence.
The searches represent a significant escalation in the legal scrutiny surrounding Swalwell, whose once-promising bid for California governor collapsed before he resigned from Congress in April.
But the weekend operation marks a consequential new stage in a scandal that has already cost him his campaign and his seat in Congress. Federal agents did not merely request an interview: They met Swalwell at an airport, took possession of his electronics and arrived at his home with a judicially authorized warrant.
