President Trump told a crowd in Rockland County, New York that House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries was the direct inspiration for a nickname Trump has been applying to the opposing party: "Dumocrat."

The back-and-forth between Trump and the Brooklyn congressman has been building for weeks. Jeffries called Trump "the dumbest president ever" last month. Trump, speaking to supporters in the Hudson Valley, made clear he found that particular line of attack worth answering, and worth turning around.
