President Donald Trump is putting the weight of the presidency behind one simple demand: bring Nancy Guthrie home alive.Speaking with the New York Post over the phone on Monday, Trump warned “Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnappers” that “very, very severe — the most severe” consequences await if the 84-year-old is not returned alive, and he confirmed he meant the Justice Department would seek the death penalty if she is discovered dead.
This is the bully pulpit used the way Americans expect it to be used when an innocent person vanishes: publicly, forcefully, and without euphemism.
