Furthermore, he argued that during the COVID-19 pandemic, many of these governments used federal funds to greatly expand their scope and — in some cases — grant “egregious raises” to employees.

And then, thanks to the flood of new residents coming into the state, these governments were able to accrue even more tax revenue, which allowed them to keep up their spending, Blaise claimed.

“When you go back pre-COVID, and you start factoring in inflation and population growth, those budgets should not have exploded anywhere near where they’re exploding right now,” he added.

Even Justice Elena Kagan, who dissented from the original decision, sided with the conservative justices to enforce the order.

Tariffs “will reduce total deficits by $4.0 trillion altogether,” CBO says

The Congressional Budget Office, whose gloomy view of the long-term federal budget picture skewed public debate over the One Big Beautiful Bill, issued a trillion-dollar revision.

It did so on a Friday afternoon (okay, 11:45 on on Friday morning) in the summer during Congress’s August recess, on a day when economic news was dominated by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s Jackson Hole self-satisfied tribute to his own supposed “success in bringing down inflation without a sharp increase in unemployment.”

Back on June 4, when Congress was debating the One Big Beautiful Bill amid hotly contested estimates of its fiscal impact (see, “How ‘Big’ Is the One Big Beautiful Bill?” May 30, 2025), the CBO estimated the effect of the tariffs at a “$2.5 trillion decrease in primary deficits and $0.5 trillion reduction in interest outlays.”

Now that it’s mid-August, about 10 weeks later, CBO has a revised estimate: “We project that increases in tariffs implemented during the period from January 6, 2025, to August 19 will decrease primary deficits (which exclude net outlays for interest) by $3.3 trillion if the higher tariffs persist for the 2025‒2035 period.

By reducing the need for federal borrowing, those tariff collections will also reduce federal outlays for interest by an additional $0.7 trillion. As a result, the changes in tariffs will reduce total deficits by $4.0 trillion altogether.”

That’s a trillion dollar swing—to $4 trillion from $3 trillion—from June 4 to August 22.

Twice-failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton could be in jeopardy of losing her license to practice law after an ethics complaint was filed against her in Arkansas, Fox News reported.

The organization Democracy Restored is going after the former Secretary of State because of her role in perpetuating the Russiagate scandal against President Donald Trump.

The complaint published on Wednesday asks the Arkansas Bar Association to make a "formal review of the conduct of Hillary Rodham Clinton, Esq., a licensed attorney in the State of Arkansas, in connection with her actions during the 2016 presidential campaign."

The filing cites the Arkansas Rules of Professional Conduct and asserts she violated the rules against "Dishonesty" and "Prejudice to the Administration of Justice."

DHS Opens New ICE Detention Center in Nebraska

The Trump administration is opening its third version of the “Alligator Alcatraz” state-run migrant detention center in Nebraska — this one dubbed the “Cornhusker clink.”

“Thanks to Governor Pillen for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Nebraska’s Cornhusker Clink,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement.

The new facility’s opening is all part of the administration’s push to massively expand ICE detention capacity with a goal of holding 100,000 illegal migrants at a single time.

The Trump administration has already opened the doors to “Alligator Alcatraz,” a 2,000-bed detention center in the heart of Florida’s Everglades surrounded by alligators and pythons, and the “Speedway Slammer,” a 1,000-bed space at the Miami Correctional Facility, near Bunker Hill, Ind., in the Grissom Joint Air Reserve Base.

On Sunday, the “Lonestar Lockup” mega-facility opened at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas — with capacity for 1,000 beds and the ability to add 4,000 more.

Russian hackers have been caught accessing the computer networks of critical U.S. infrastructure

For some of you out there who believe Putin and Russia is not our enemy:

The FBI warned the public on Aug. 20 that Russian hackers had breached computer systems at manufacturing plants, power grids, water treatment facilities, and other critical infrastructure in the United States.

Hackers tied to Russia’s Federal Security Service were caught by the FBI using cyberattacks to get into computer networks targeting a wide range of critical infrastructure and other organizations in the United States and across the world.

By gaining access to the devices over the past year, the hackers were able to steal configuration files for thousands of networking devices associated with U.S. entities across critical infrastructure sectors, the FBI said.

The hackers also used the unauthorized access to look around and collect intelligence in their victims’ networks, which revealed their interest in protocols and applications in control systems.

"Americans may know more about the crimes committed by deceased child sex trafficker and liberal financier Jeffrey Epstein, including possible associates, after the Justice Department turned over documents on the federal case against him following a congressional subpoena.

U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced in a statement the Justice Department informed the Committee it will begin providing Epstein-related records.

“There are many records in DOJ’s custody, and it will take the Department time to produce all the records and ensure the identification of victims and any child sexual abuse material are redacted,” said Comer.

Comer issued an Aug. 5 subpoena to the Justice Department for records related to Epstein.

The same day, he also issued deposition subpoenas to Bill and Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, Robert Mueller, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, and Alberto Gonzales for testimony related to horrific crimes perpetrated by Jeffrey Epstein,” the statement notes, after an Oversight subcommittee approved motions to “subpoena these records and compel witness testimony.” [AmericanLibertyNews]

Federal Judge Bars New Detainees, Construction at ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

The judge also ordered that some other aspects of the facility be dismantled as current detainees are moved elsewhere

Yesterday U.S. Judge Kathleen Williams, nominated by Barack Obama, a lower court judge in the District Court for the Southern District of Florida, sided with environmental groups who had brought suit against the facility, saying that it endangers the Everglades and its wildlife.

The federal judge ordered President Donald Trump and the state of Florida to stop sending detainees to “Alligator Alcatraz,” a detention center for illegal immigrants in the Everglades, and barred new construction there.

In a court order, Williams said that authorities cannot “[bring] any additional persons onto the site who were not already being detained at the site at the time of this Order going into effect.”

Williams also ordered that some other aspects of the facility be dismantled as current detainees are moved elsewhere.

Specifically, authorities have been banned from “installing any additional industrial-style lighting ... or doing any paving, filling, excavating, or fencing, or ... any other site expansion,” Williams wrote.

The ruling also ordered the removal of some equipment and supporting infrastructure at the remote facility.

The order said that authorities must remove “all generators, gas, sewage, and other waste and waste receptacles that were installed to support this project,” within 60 days. Some fencing and additional lighting that had already been installed must also be removed.

The State of Florida has appealed.

Appeals court kills wild half-billion dollar penalty against President Trump

A panel of appeals court judges, only a day after being accused publicly of "navel-gazing" for their lengthy delay in giving President Donald Trump relief from what has been confirmed as a politicized and biased "fraud" penalty of half a billion dollars, has canceled that threat.

The Washington Examiner confirmed the five-judge panel of the appellate division in New York threw out the judgment delivered by Arthur Engoron, a judge at the entry court level who has been openly derisive of Trump.

The ruling said his judgment was unconstitutional and violated the U.S. Constitution, which bars excessive fines.

A woman was charged over the weekend with threatening to kill President Trump.

Nathalie Rose Jones, 50, of Lafayette, Indiana, made a series of threatening posts on social media before traveling Saturday to Washington D.C., where she appeared at a protest outside the White House.

Secret Service interviewed Jones in New York the day before, and she told them she would kill Trump if given the chance, calling him a "Nazi."

In the days leading up to her arrest, Jones called for Trump to be killed or deposed in posts on Facebook and Instagram and blamed him for deaths from COVID-19.

“I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present,” Jones allegedly wrote in an Aug. 6 Facebook post directed at the FBI, according to prosecutors.

Max Gilles, 27, has been named a suspect and is in the hospital for non life-threatening injuries

PBSO said the tactical unit was conducting an investigation on Wednesday, just before 12:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South J Street in Lake Worth Beach, when they came in contact with Gilles.

According to deputies, when agents attempted to make contact, Gilles produced a handgun. Deputies discharged their agency-issued firearms and the person of interest sustained a graze wound to the hip.

Trump officials seem to be making moves to ready FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino for the exits

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey will join the FBI as co-deputy director, serving alongside Deputy Director Dan Bongino, according to the Missouri AG’s office.

Bailey announced he is resigning his state post to accept a federal position, effective upon transition formalities.

Attorney General Pam Bondi called Bailey “a distinguished state attorney general and a decorated war veteran,” saying his leadership will help advance the administration’s law-and-order agenda.

FBI Director Kash Patel said Bailey will be “an integral part” of the bureau’s mission under the Department of Justice.

Bongino has reportedly been on thin ice at the agency since he clashed with Bondi earlier this year about the Justice Department’s handling of the files related to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

During a heated exchange in July, Bondi reportedly accused Bongino of leaking stories to the media suggesting that the FBI wasn’t pleased with the case’s closure. Bongino then reportedly threatened to quit and said that it was either him or her.

Trump DOJ accuses Biden-appointed judge of defying the Supreme Court

In May, Biden-appointed U.S. District Judge Myong Joun, born is Seoul, South Korea, blocked the Trump administration from making substantial cuts to the Department of Education.

Although the Supreme Court later lifted Joun's injunction, he is now being accused of defying America's highest judicial body.

According to Reuters, that allegation was put forward late last week in a brief authored by Department of Justice (DOJ) attorneys.It was submitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit this past Thursday after Joun indicated that another injunction remained in effect.

The judge had previously found that President Donald Trump's cuts to the Department of Education's budget was an attempt to "dismantle the department without an authorizing statute."

"A Palm Beach County agency that provides grants to nonprofits to help struggling teens and their families is in the crosshairs of the state’s DOGE team and county commissioners.

At a meeting Aug. 26, leaders of the county’s Youth Services Department will be asked to justify why they want to give $3.1 million in tax money to 33 agencies. It marks the commission’s first critical inquiry into spending since it created the department 10 years ago.

The review comes as Gov. Ron DeSantis’ government efficiency team scours county books for waste. Before the Florida DOGE auditors arrived in the county on Monday for a two-day visit, they said they wanted to take a close look at the $18 million-a-year Youth Services Department.

During a July 8 meeting, Commissioner Baxter criticized youth services staff for not giving her enough time to review information to see if the proposed grants were duplicating efforts of the Children’s Services Council. The council, an independent taxing agency approved by county voters in 1986, collects $167 million annually for programs that help kids and families.

“I want a breakdown of how many are getting money from the Children’s Services Council and the county,” said Commissioner Baxter, who is on the council’s board. “Is it one agency? Is it the other? Is it both?” She was supported by the entire council.

The six agencies were selected for council grants of up to $50,000 because they offer programs for older children who received high scores from outside professionals who reviewed the applications for the county.

The programs, offered by agencies such as Compass, the Milagro Center and Children of Inmates, focus on education, building life skills, suicide prevention, financial planning and family counseling."

The recent announcements by several G7 nations, notably France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, that they will recognize Palestine as a sovereign state mark a significant geopolitical moment.

Until very recently, the idea that even one, much less four, members of the G7 would take this step was unthinkable.

Their longstanding policy of non-recognition was rooted in a commitment to the Oslo Accords, signed in 1993 and 1995, which created the Palestinian Authority as an interim administration and emphasized that a Palestinian state should emerge only through direct bilateral negotiations with Israel, not unilateral action.

That this barrier has now been crossed reveals a troubling contradiction in the application of international law and diplomatic principles. These same nations refuse to recognize Taiwan, a self-governing, prosperous democracy that clearly meets the established legal criteria for statehood.

By contrast, Palestine does not presently meet those criteria, and yet it is being ushered into recognition largely as a political rebuke of Israel. This double standard is as untenable as it is transparent.

Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff said today that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed at Friday’s Alaska peace summit to allow U.S. and European allies to grant Ukraine security protections similar to NATO’s collective defense mandate as part of an impending deal to end the war.

“We were able to win the following concession: That the United States could offer Article 5-like protection, which is one of the real reasons why Ukraine wants to be in NATO,” Witkoff said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

The special envoy added that it “was the first time we had ever heard the Russians agree to that.” When pressed on why Trump was unsuccessful in pressing Russia to agree to an immediate cease-fire in the more than three-and-a-half-year long war, Witkoff said the president had pivoted towards securing a peace deal after making so much progress at the Alaska summit.

In an interview with Fox News following the US-Russia summit in Alaska, Trump was asked what advice he had for the Ukrainian leader, to which he replied: "Make a deal."

He added: "Russia's a very big power and they're not."

Lake Worth traffic stop leads to arrest and escape attempt by undocumented driver

"On July 21, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper spotted a white van with no front bumper and a broken taillight on Lake Worth Road near I-95. When the trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver kept going before eventually stopping in an empty parking lot.

Troopers discovered that neither the driver nor the passenger had a valid license, and both admitted they were from Guatemala. Border Patrol determined the men were in the U.S. illegally and requested that they be brought to their Riviera Beach station.

While being transported, both men jumped out of the patrol truck near I-95 and Blue Heron Boulevard, running into the woods. A perimeter search was put in place, but the passenger was not found.

The driver, who had been arrested for driving without a license, now faces an additional charge of escape.

Newsom, who is rumored to have presidential aspirations and has become one of the most outspoken critics of President Donald Trump, held the event, which he labeled "Liberation Day," to announce plans to respond to the GOP’s redistricting push in Texas.

In a social media post shortly before the rally, Newsom predicted that "Donald Trump and [Texas Governor] Greg Abbott are going to have a very bad day today." His maps are redrawn to have five mroe Democrat districts.

But the bad news was the optics when over a dozen armed and masked Border Patrol agents were just outside the rally. The agents could be seen leading a man away in handcuffs as onlookers shouted angrily...something about Democrats who seem to love illegals who are all criminals by definition.

The tribalism is strong already: 72 percent of Republicans and 63 percent of Democrats say the other side is “immoral.” And I can show you lots of charts about peoples’ declining trust in institutions. It’s real and it’s a problem.

James Comer calls Bill Clinton 'prime suspect' in Epstein investigation

House Republican James Comer (KY) teased sensational findings about Bill Clinton's ties to Jeffrey Epstein, calling the former president the "prime suspect" in the House Oversight Committee's investigation into Epstein's connections.

"Everybody in America wants to know what went on in Epstein Island, and we’ve all heard reports that Bill Clinton was a frequent visitor there, so he’s a prime suspect to be deposed by the House Oversight Committee," Comer told Newsmax.

Comer's committee has subpoenaed Clinton and his wife Hillary to testify before Congress about Epstein, whose life of crime has been thrust back into the headlines in recent weeks.

While many are skeptical that the Clintons' subpoenas will be enforced, Comer has threatened to hold the Clintons in contempt if they refuse to testify, which could expose them to criminal charges from the Justice Department.

Comer also notes that members of both parties voted to subpoena the Clintons, which could make it harder for them to defy the request.

The two leaders holed up behind closed doors for around three hours at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. What they talked about, however, remains largely a mystery as the two leaders, standing side-by-side

The meeting lasted only three hours but absolutely nothing came out of it other than detente. Putin suggested that they have their next meeting in Moscow but I would doubt that would be the location. Ceasefire was not agreed unless certain conditions were met to Putin's satisfaction.

I watched this from 1pm yesterday until Trump left Alaska and was totally disappointed. Dealing wih a sociopath is tricky business...even if you did write the Art of the Deal. More information should be leaked out today.

Hundreds of Metropolitan Police Department officers and National Guard members made 45 arrests on Wednesday night, which included the 29 illegal immigrants who are now in detention. Many of these illegal immigrants had final orders of removal at the time of their arrests.

“There were 29 illegal aliens who removed off of Washington, D.C.’s streets last night. Many of whom had final orders for removal,” Leavitt said. “So these results are happening night after night because of the efforts of this federal task force that are working alongside the Metropolitan Police Department who agree with this effort.”

The 45 individuals have been charged with the assault on a federal officer, fugitive apprehensions, possession of child sex abuse material, and illegal firearms, along with drug trafficking and an assault on an officer with a Subway sandwich, FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X. Three illegal firearms were additionally seized by law enforcement.

Criminal knocks store clerk unconscious

An investigation revealed that a suspect entered the store along with two other men and belligerently accused the victim of "staring at him," officials said. The victim told the suspect to get his items and leave, officials said. As you might guess, the suspect apparently didn't take too kindly to the directive. Authorities said the victim and suspect continued to "loudly" exchange words, after which the suspect "threw a full, unopened, plastic 2-liter [bottle] of Orange Crush at the victim's head." The victim fell unconscious and first responders found the adult male victim "bleeding profusely" above his right eye — an injury that required 10 stitches and apparently resulted in a concussion. Officials said the suspect and his friends left the store. They are still looking for him.

In a move that should surprise no one who’s actually paid attention to her over the years, First Lady Melania Trump has slapped Hunter Biden with a $1 billion legal notice for spreading a sleazy, long-debunked rumor.

In an early August interview with Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan, Hunter confidently declared that Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania to Donald Trump — a claim that has been not only denied, but publicly retracted by The Daily Beast and even veteran Democrat attack dog James Carville after legal heat came down.

Melania’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, gave him a crystal-clear ultimatum: remove the video, issue an apology, preserve every scrap of evidence, and do it by August 7. Hunter didn’t.

This is classic liberal projection. Accuse your political opponents of exactly what your own circle’s been mired in, then act shocked when called out.

TIFF Cancels Oct. 7 Documentary Over Hamas Copyright

A new documentary about the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Hamas has been booted from the Toronto International Film Festival — because organizers insist the filmmakers need the rights from the terrorist group to use their horrific footage of the massacre.

The festival claims the movie, called “The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue,” did not meet certain requirements to screen at the prestigious September event, widely attended by Hollywood stars and bigwigs, including not securing so-called “legal clearance” to use Hamas’ livestreamed video of the rape, murder and kidnapping of Jews.

The stunned filmmakers, including Canadian director Barry Avrich, slammed the decision, telling Deadline that TIFF has “defied its mission and censored its own programming by refusing this film.”

“The Road Between Us” tells the story of retired Israel Defense Forces General Noam Tibon, who set out to save his family and others during Hamas’ deadly attack, in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage.

It includes widely seen videos taken by the terrorists of their murders of Israelis at the Nova music festival and in nearby communities.

While TIFF alleges they required permission from Hamas to use the footage, the documentary’s line producer, Talia Harris Ram, told the Times of Israel that their rationale was ridiculous.

A police video has emerged showing a South Carolina Democrat running for governor getting arrested in his underwear and going on an insane tirade that must be seen to be believed.

As WCBD reported, 53-year-old William “Mullins” McLeod was arrested back on May 15 after he was found “yelling at the top of his lungs” while walking in downtown Charleston. At the time of his arrest, He was wearing only underwear and shoes.

The Charleston Police Department released video of the arrest on August 12 following a Freedom of Information request. The video, which is approximately one hour long, shows McLeod screaming at the top of his lungs, hurling the n-word, and even comparing himself to God and Superman at various points.

“I’m one of the most just humans to ever walk this soil,” he says at one point while sitting in the police car. “I’m Superman, godd*mn it.”
