Sunset 8-16-25

President Trump will host Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Monday following a multi-party call with NATO leaders, during which Trump briefed allies on Friday’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The call, described by participants as “difficult,” came after Trump’s return from Alaska, where his meeting with Putin failed to secure a ceasefire. Putin refused to budge. You have to wonder why he asked for this meeting.

According to reports, Trump privately told Zelensky that freezing the conflict was insufficient, stressing that his renewed diplomatic push aims to secure a lasting peace deal.

The stance marks a significant policy shift — aligning more closely with the Kremlin’s position, while diverging from Ukraine’s insistence, shared by many Western allies, that a ceasefire must precede broader peace negotiations to safeguard Ukrainian sovereignty. [DefenseNews]

  1. He better take what Trump offers or we need to crush him and align with Russia!

  2. Trump informed Zelensky that Putin had proposed to freeze front lines elsewhere if Ukraine fully withdraws from the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Russia hasn’t been able to capture Donetsk and Luhansk regions after three and a half years of war. One has to be a total idiot to even consider this sort of a “deal”.

These so-called negotiations are total sham. Putin is playing Trump like a fiddle.

  3. First of all, if McCain and Nuland hadn't insinuated themselves into the Ukraine election in 2014, Zelensky wouldn't be the President, and they would have had a President who was more friendly to Russia. The Donbas is Russian and should be given back to Russia. Suppose the Mexicans decided to take back Texas and California? You weren't at the negotiations, and you don't know what happened. Just because you don't like what you perceive to have been the outcome of the Alaska Summit, don't make assumptions that may be totally false.

  4. Will Zelensky wear a suit? He has no respect for world leaders, for the White House, or for himself. He looks like a homeless person.

Trump wants to be remembered as a peacemaker. Ignoring the realities of war makes it impossible. He has made the war longer and worse.

For Russia he is a hope. Inviting a war criminal inside your military base and car is not a signal to end the war.

Trump has made no policy, no sanctions, no freezing of assets. Instead he made big concessions, tried to take NATO off the table, no talk of reparations or punishment.

Russians think they can flatter him

  6. @8:23...give it time anonymous. Putin would NEVER end his agression if Ukraine became a part of NATO. Trump has worked around that and Putin has agreed. This is the first step in ending Russia's atrocity after 3plus years. Things don't happen over-night.

  7. Did you want this to go on forever 8:23? Do you not think peace is a Noble Goal? Or should we spend our time making up pronouns for simpletons? I support what Trump is trying to do. Let today be a day that changes the world for the better!
