Oceanwalk Restaurant at the Lake Worth Casino

Benny’s on the Beach seeking $50,000 rent waiver from LWB during Oceanwalk renovation closure

BENNY’S ON THE BEACH is planning about $400,000 in renovations to its Oceanwalk restaurant at the Lake Worth Beach Casino complex, work that will close the restaurant from Labor Day until mid to late October, interim City Manager Jamie Brown said.

The restaurant is asking city officials to waive two months of Oceanwalk’s lease payments, roughly $50,000, “since they will be closed and have no revenue coming in,’’ he said.

When Brown mentioned the rent-waiver request at a pre-agenda work session June 27, a majority of city commissioners voiced support for approving it:
  • “Benny’s brings so much. They're like our big attraction. I would allow that to happen as a courtesy,’’ Mayor Betty Resch said.
  • “This business is a good city partner,’’ said Vice Mayor Sarah Malega. “They have a good track record. I think that’s a good return on investment.’’
  • Commissioner Chris McVoy indicated he would vote against the request when it’s formally presented to the commission later this summer.
  • Commissioner Mimi May said she would support the request if it’s limited to a specific timeframe.
Although there was no quote from Commissioner Anthony Segrich, Commissioner McVoy confirmed that he was the only one who voted "no."

You can’t bluff a Master Dealmaker

Trump Secures China Trade Deal on Rare Earth Minerals, Ending Export Standoff

It feels good to be winning again, doesn’t it?

For years, Americans were told to accept decline as the new normal. We were told that other nations would eat our lunch and that our best days were behind us. But a funny thing happens when leaders actually put America first.

That old sense of American confidence is roaring back. It’s a feeling built on common sense, strength, and keeping promises. When a leader says they will do something and then actually does it, it sends a powerful message to friends and foes alike. Our rivals are starting to get that message loud and clear.

President Trump delivered yet another one of those wins. After months of a tense standoff, he announced a major breakthrough with our biggest rival.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the US signed a trade deal with China and that a deal with India may also be in the works.

Federal Government sues Los Angeles for Sanctuary City Policies

Trump DOJ Sues LA Over Sanctuary Policies

This lawsuit puts LA’s sanctuary city status in legal jeopardy

The Trump administration is suing the city of Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass and the City Council, it was announced Monday. Trump sues LA, Mayor Karen Bass.

According to the lawsuit, filed in the Central District of California, the administration is suing over LA's "sanctuary city" policies, alleging in federal court that the ordinance violates the Constitution by "thwarting" immigration enforcement.

The lawsuit contends that the sanctuary laws -- in which local law enforcement officials refuse to assist immigration enforcement efforts -- are illegal, and expressly designed to "obstruct the federal government's enforcement of federal immigration law and impede consultation and communication between federal, state, and local law enforcement officials that is necessary for federal officials to carry out federal immigration law and keep Americans safe."

The lawsuit notes that President Donald Trump "campaigned and won the presidential election on a platform of deporting the millions of illegal immigrants the previous administration permitted, through its open borders policy, to enter the country unlawfully."

Trump to visit 'Alligator Alcatraz' immigration detention facility

President Donald Trump will visit a new immigration detention facility in the Florida Everglades on Tuesday, showcasing his border crackdown in the face of humanitarian and environmental concerns.

The trip was confirmed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday.

“When the president comes tomorrow, he’s going to be able to see,” DeSantis told reporters. He added that “I think by tomorrow, it’ll be ready for business.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said it will be “informally known as Alligator Alcatraz," a moniker that has alarmed immigrant activists but appeals to the president's aggressive approach to deportations.

“There's only one road leading in, and the only way out is a one way flight," she said. "It is isolated and it is surrounded by dangerous wildlife (alligators and pythons) and unforgiving terrain.”

Trump will be joined by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Rep. Byron Donalds, who is running for governor.
