Supreme Court to Hear Trump’s Citizenship Order
The U.S. Supreme Court will deliberate on President Donald Trump's contentious (by Democrats) executive order on birthright citizenship this May.According to the Conservative Brief, the hearing is poised to address the legal interpretation of the 14th Amendment concerning automatic U.S. citizenship.
President Trump initiated this significant policy shift on his very first day in office, signing an executive order that challenges the longstanding interpretation of the 14th Amendment. According to this order, only children born to parents who are legally "subject to the jurisdiction" of the U.S. would qualify for automatic citizenship.
Traditionally, the 14th Amendment has granted citizenship to all children born on U.S. soil. The Supreme Court has not definitively contested this interpretation until now.
