American Immigration Council senior fellow, Reichlin-Melnick, has argued that Trump’s plan to deport illegal aliens would be devastating to the economy by robbing certain industries like agriculture, construction, and hospitality.

U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) grilled him about his support for flooding the job market with illegal aliens during the hearing.

“Why would you want American citizens and those who are here lawfully to have to compete against illegal immigrants who by the way are not always paid minimum wage, who are not given the federally mandated benefits precisely because they are here illegally,” Hawley said.

Hawley pointed out that illegal aliens help drive down wages for Americans and keep them from getting jobs in sectors like construction and hospitality.
