Gov. DeSantis is Banning Social Media for Children Under 14

Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has signed off on a groundbreaking social media ban for minors, making it one of the strictest in the nation.

This new law prohibits social media accounts for children under 14 and mandates parental consent for 15- and 16-year-olds. Set to take effect on January 1, 2025, this legislation is a bold move to protect our youth from the dangers of social media addiction.

DeSantis has taken a strong stand against the pervasive influence of social media on our children’s lives. The initial proposal, which would have banned minors under 16 from popular social media platforms regardless of parental consent, was vetoed by DeSantis. However, a compromise was reached with Republican Speaker Paul Renner, resulting in the current legislation.

There are definitely proven facts that social media is and has been harmful to our children but a law? I would have to think this one throuhg a little bit longer.
