KC Mayor Comments On Governors Address

"On February 5, Kansas City, Missouri was struck by tragedy as one person was killed and more than 20 others were injured during a shooting at the Chiefs Super Bowl celebration parade.

The incident left the community shocked and devastated, with many questioning the motives and identities of the perpetrators. Since then, there have been conflicting reports and theories circulating about the suspects responsible for the act.

Last week, Republican Governor Mike Parson addressed the incident in a statement, stating that “we can’t let some thugs and criminals take over and ruin what happened.” While expressing sympathy for the victims and their families, Parson’s use of the term “thugs” sparked controversy and criticism from Democratic Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas.

During an appearance on the KCUR radio show “Up to Date” on Friday, Democrat Mayor Lucas strongly disagreed with Parson’s characterization of the suspects. He argued that the use of the word “thugs” is a racial “dog whistle” and that it unfairly stereotypes and dehumanizes the individuals involved." 😆
