Two Electric Shuttles soon to appear in Lake Worth Beach

New electric shuttles approved for downtown Lake Worth Beach

Service paid for with Community Redevelopment Agency, city funds

Visitors and residents in Lake Worth Beach will soon have a new way to get around town in an environmentally friendly way.

The Lake Worth Beach Community Redevelopment Agency on Jan. 30 unanimously approved a one-year contract to fund new electric shuttles in the downtown historic district.

An agreement between the CRA and the Circuit Transit company will assist with funding the operations of up to two environmentally friendly vehicles.

Individuals will be able to request on-demand service through the use of the Circuit app for a fee or by waving down a driver.

    2. We’re closer to Belle Glade or Lake Park then West Palm or Delray in status, remember the tired battle cry of the wack pack “ we don’t want to be Delray Beach “, as if. LOL

  2. I think it's primarily for the illegals

  3. They should have a shuttle from Dixie Hwy to the beach. That giant bus with one person on it is a flagrant abuse of not only the environment, but of the people behind the bus, people trying to cross the street, whatever and whomever is paying for the city bus, not to mention the stupidity of the person who thought it was a good idea.

Palm Tran could stop at CVS, like it does anyway, and the shuttle could pick up the few people going east.

  4. What makes you say that?

  5. @6:05...At the top of this blog it says commentary/opinion on local...
    Electric vehicles---all BS--just another opinion. :)

  6. Right, but there's got to be a reason why you think illegals will be primarily using it, right?

Or maybe there is no reason to think that. Maybe you just say things for no reason. lol...anyway, just curious.

  7. @8:28...you are just curious?...
You think people with drivers licenses and automobiles, after they park their car, will flag down an EV shuttle so they don't have to walk around the downtown?
Our downtown is walkable as it is.
Just another waste of $$$ to prove the city is GREEN and they can say they are doing something environmentally friendly.
It's just so "out there." :)

  8. I do not believe that lawful car-owning residents of Lake Worth would consider the Electric Shuttle as useful to them.

I don't believe any focus groups were done that could show this, and if the Town claims this, we should investigate the methodology -- as it would almost have to be contrived.

What groups could want the Electric Shuttle? Perhaps people that WANT other people to pay their way from the town to the beach so that they can work ultra-low pay jobs at the nearby hotels or restaurants? For these, I think a better solution is to help the Jack-the-Bikeman group get them bikes to ride to work. Forcing the residents of Lake Worth to pay for this shuttle is not just wrong, it is robbing Peter to pay Paul, and Paul is not more important than Peter :-)

The City commissioners had no right to make such a decision.

OR...our town is bureaucratic, which often means that it will attempt to create bigger costs for the public to pay for, making itself a larger financial entity ---the objective here is to make a small town-sized budget much larger -- more like that of a large-town budget.

We really should not let this go.

  9. Dan, it's only going to operate in the "downtown historic" district...not the beach from what I understand. If it were going to operate to the beach I would be really pi**ed as that would be circumventing our parking income.

  10. OK Lynn, thanks for the clarification...but this sounds like the town is inventing a problem that does not exist, and they paying for a solution with our money.

  11. Dan, exactly.
They just want to put on their bragging badge to say, "We did something "green"...see how wonderful we are.

  12. The people of Lake Worth need to understand that shuttles like this are typically powered by Coal or Natural Gas.

The electric choice was a kneejerk without thought....All over America consumers are beginning to realize the huge mistake of owning an Electric vehicle. Rental fleets are getting rid of their electric cars, Ford is massively downsizing all future electric vehicle manufacture for the foreseeable future, and in general, all the flaws in the knee jerk "Green-Think" are becoming apparent.

Too bad the citizens of Lake Worth can't refuse to allow their tax dollars to be spent so unwisely, and against the will of the taxpayers.

  13. So what is the bus route? The historical district is pretty big. Is it a tour of the city, or what?

Lake Worth has been trying to make something out of nothing for the 20 years that I have lived here, and it just keeps getting worse. As far as potential, the only area that has any growth potential is the north end of Dixie Hwy.

It's just a little town, like millions of little towns across the country. Just keep it clean and safe!

Just keep it clean and crime free.

  14. Hertz dumping 20,000 EVs is a warning to electric-car owners everywhere...

Hertz said expensive repairs helped inform its decision to downsize its EV fleet.
The move warns potential EV owners about "hidden" costs.
Repairs for EVs can cost more than those for gas-powered cars.

Hertz is backtracking on its big EV bet.

The car-rental firm said it's selling 20,000 EVs — about one-third of its electric fleet of Teslas, Volvos, Polestars, and more — partly due to repair and maintenance costs.

It's a big blow to the EV industry, which is already in the throes of slowing growth as the waves of early adopters dry up and prices remain stubbornly high for potential new buyers.

In a Thursday note to clients, Adam Jonas, the head of auto and space research at Morgan Stanley, called the move "another sign that EV expectations need to be reset downward across the market."

  15. The real issue is that the town commissioners have decided it is OK for them to spend a great deal of Lake Worth taxpayer money on Electric shuttles that are likely to be a maintenance cost nightmare, the shuttles wont be used by most Lake Worth residents, and this will be one more expense that takes away from the MANY things Lake Worth does need for it's citizens.

  16. The Hybrid seems to be a nice compromise. People seem to like them. My brother has had one for about 25 years now. Not the same one.

My real objection to the electric vehicle is its appeal to Baby Boomers. They don't give a fig about little children digging up cobalt in the Congo, and just either act like they don't hear you, or that it's not an important issue.

It's unfortunate that everybody bought into the idea; they wanted something easy and viewed this as a Quick fix. Even
Zero Population Growth won't cure the problem, because we are all here already.

Malthus was right, you know: wars and pestilence.........
