Residents Explain the Impacts of RV Encampments in Their Community
Guest Blogger who responds to the homeless situation
Dan Volker, Lake Worth Beach
The guy in the video says the solutions begin with neighborhood groups forming, and being very vocal about Homeless issues, and by bringing lawsuits occasionally when needed to keep town government interest up.
I think we need a cause most people in Lake worth or West Palm can get behind---that Families have a RIGHT to buy a home in a "neighborhood" that is culturally or socioeconomically aligned with their own backgrounds and general behaviors.
- 1. It is fair to say that bad neighborhoods DO EXIST, and these typically involved many criminals living within these areas and preying on their neighbors. Obvious examples exist in Lake Worth and can be validated by the Sheriff's office.
- 2. It is fair to say that a mother and father have a Moral DUTY to attempt to have a HOME in a neighborhood that is low in crime, and high in good moral values.
o Good mothers and fathers have a duty to their children to attempt to AVOID neighborhoods where such criminal and anti-cultural crimes take place, and Towns SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE for actions by the town and its law enforcement, that would obviously degrade a good neighborhood that families have “bought into” with life savings or major financial commitments, in order to protect the future of their children and family in general.
3. Neighborhoods should have attorneys and funds raised to pursue this form of legal protection.
- 4. We could call this a "Reverse Gentrification Lawsuit," where bad actions -- or NO Actions by a Town, can be shown to destroy personal investments and to be destructive to the culture and family protections provided by good neighborhoods.
- 5. We need to assert that families have a right to live in good neighborhoods if they can afford to and that families have a right to desire to live in a safe, low crime neighborhood with other people holding similar American cultural values.
o Allowing tent cities and homeless encampments in good neighborhoods violates the implied duty of government to protect good neighborhoods from crime and against reverse gentrification.
People in the neighborhoods have been vocal but not organized. No one wants these mostly addicts roaming and sleeping around in our town. What can be done?
ReplyDeleteAre we still having a problem in Lake Worth?
ReplyDelete@4:28...not sure about Lake Worth Beach but there is a massive problem all over the country. It's a mystery to me how it got all out of control particularly in the State of California.
ReplyDeleteI was told there was a body found in Bryant Park a day or so ago...haven't heard a thing about it since. Homeless used to hang out there.
Boy you are more outta touch then I thought! Never mind, my bad you’ve ALWAYS been absolutely clueless on lake worth issues, sad sack. LOL
DeleteI think lake worth is beyond redemption at this point. There are more immigrants living here who don't even speak English. It's the pits.
ReplyDeleteIt’s the white and black crackheads supported by idiots, everyone knows who these fools are! Sad!
DeleteWhile I agree with most of what Dan says, we have to face some hard truths. Let me preface everything I'm about to say with this: Politicians need money to run for office. That money, at least in Florida, comes mainly from Big Ag and Developers/Real estate . So whatever benefits developers/real estate/big Ag benefits the politicians. -THE ONES WHO WRIGHT THE LAWS.
ReplyDeleteTowns and Law enforcement have had their hands tied by the threat of lawsuits. The LAST thing any city attorney wants to have to do is be an attorney if the city gets sued. Lawsuits are like Kryptonite to lawyers working on the taxpayer's dime. Throwing city residents quality of life under the bus is MUCH preferred than the threat of GOD FORBID a lawsuit against the city !!!!! And that is exactly what any city attorney is going to tell their city council.
As a neighborhood president, the idea of neighborhoods being able to raise enough funds for an attorney is just not possible. Hell, we're struggling just to get the apathetic jerks who live in our neighborhoods to even come to a meeting once a month.
And speaking of apathetic jerks, most of the residents of Lake Worth don't even bother to vote. If they did, maybe we could vote in commissioners who think that the residents who have invested in our town are more important than illegal aliens who have zero rights to even be in our town in the first place.
Until the illegal problem is addressed at a Federal and state level, there is nothing that we an do. Remember those above mentioned Developers and Ag interests? They need cheap labor. I'm amazed that Florida did finally get E Verify in place.
As for the homeless situation, until our politicians pull their heads out of their asses (placed there on the advice of their city attorneys)we residents don't have a prayer.
Are you on cocaine, good grief shut up it’s not that complicated
DeleteMost can't vote because they are illegal and the landlords live in other cities.lwb is a mess so dumpy blighted with so much crime.
ReplyDeleteThe city has been derelict in it's duties for going on 30 years now!
ReplyDeletethe body found in bryant park was covered on chanel 5 WPTV
ReplyDeleteThere was a time a few years back at John Prince Park, that property values of the houses had dropped by enormous amounts, due to the tent city of homeless and rampant crime.
ReplyDeleteI suggest that knowing the valuation of your home could be cut in half, or doubled based on your investing a few thousand dollars into a Neighborhood Reverse Gentrification lawsuit fund -- should be a no-brainer for the people with no kids in their home to worry about....but for the ones with children, a few thousand dollars to protect your children is in line with your responsibilities as a parent.
We learned from what happened at John Prince Park. Bryant Park is succeeding in staying ahead of this, but we still get homeless sleeping in Vans and cars along South Lakeside Drive. This can't be ignored, it is the path to the "Californication of Lake Worth" !!!! :-)
Love the term, Dan, "Californication of Lake Worth." Perfect.
ReplyDeleteCara and the anarchist never wanted gentrification and always fought with the city against any, staging traffic jams and all. The city never progresses or improves because of the peter and cara's anarchist that live here
ReplyDeletePeople sit with their teeth in their mouth, and they don't call the city services to take care of the issues that they know are wrong.
ReplyDeleteWhen you see a camper on Lakeside, call the city. You can only keep it there for so many days. The city will make them move it, and as more of them move, the rest of them will take the hint. Sure, they might only move to another area, but call whenever you see them.
Lived in LW since 1997 just never got better only worse, we are selling and moving north, lost all hope in this city.
ReplyDeleteThat’s not our problem experience at all, it’s gotten much better only now you notice the crap next to the well kept undated properties. Go Gentrification Go, out with the old in with the new!
DeleteLake Worth did get better, but now it's getting worse again.
ReplyDeleteThe old South Shores, and Ed's place on the corner of 2nd and Federal caused a downward trend in the city. But, thanks to Andy and the Noise Abatement Ordinance, the city started to come around.
But now it's just a mess. Streets are dirty and rutted with big holes in some areas. Sidewalks not swept; trash strewn in the swales. No real cleaning going on. Buildings on Lake need a good pressure washing, along with the sidewalks. Painting and cleaning would make a big difference. Forget the murals. This isn't amateur hour.
It's doable. Just has to be done. Nobody is doing anything. That's because it's to their advantage to keep it like this. As far as gentrification, there are good and bad aspects to it, and it takes years. By that time the other parts of the city have deteriorated.
I will say, when I call the city, they take care of the issue promptly. That is to their credit. They can't know what is bothering you unless you tell them.
@7:33...all the city has to do is look. Most people call their commissioner when something is amiss. Commissioners need to contact the CM so the problem can be looked into and eradicated.
