Meningococcal Disease Outbreak in Florida among Gays

CDC warns of meningococcal disease outbreak in Florida, encourages men who have sex with men to get vaccinated

Additionally, the CDC said outbreaks have been reported on college campuses in Florida.

It encouraged preteens between the ages of 11 and 12 to get one dose of the vaccine. Then, teenagers can get a booster shot at the age of 16.

With Spring break now over, there are probably many young people who have contracted this disease. It can be contracted after long periods of close contact, or direct contact such as kissing or sharing a drink. Fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea and vomiting are some of the early symptoms of the disease.
