‘We’re Funding’ The Police ‘And Then Some’

DeSantis Gives All First Responders In Florida $1,000 Bonuses

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Wednesday that his administration is giving $1,000 bonuses to all of Florida’s 174,000 first responders, including law enforcement officers, paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and firefighters.

  1. I think he is becoming over-confident. We'll see what happens. As to the $1000 bonuses, what about the many thousands of other state workers soldiering on every day, in a pretty thankless job. Juvenile Justice, for instance, works along with the Police Department, and many others.

If I'm any judge of character, he will lose more votes than he gains with this in your face manner he has recently adopted.

  2. To be clear, the money is coming from the American Rescue Plan that Congress passed that not one Republican voted for.

First responders more than deserve it...but DeSantis is merely handing over money that is there because of Democrats.

  3. DeSantis is the best!

  4. @11:41...to be clear: American Rescue Plan: Emergency Legislative Package to Fund Vaccinations, Provide Immediate, Direct Relief to Families Bearing the Brunt of the COVID-19 Crisis, and Support Struggling Communities.
Thanks to governor DeSantis, our direct responders are all getting $1,000.

  5. 11:41 is right, believe it or not.

"However, DeSantis again galled Democrats on Thursday morning in West Palm Beach when he told a crowd of supporters at the Club 45 USA gathering that “while other places are trying to defund the police, we’re funding the police and then some” in reference to $1,000 checks.

DeSantis skipped over the fact that the money to fund that program is coming from the American Rescue Plan, which DeSantis did not support, and which every congressional Republican in Florida voted against."

  6. Thanks for your cut and paste. Conservatives are never going to support out of control spending by Biden. DeSantis made the decision to give out these bonuses, not Biden

  7. I'm happy the Police and First Responders are getting the thousand dollars. That is not the point. I think DeSantis is relying too much on his relationship with the former president.

Time moves on, people move on, there is always someone waiting in the wings to overtake you. The polls as of this morning, were 47-53 in favor of DeSantis. It's a long way to Tipperary and that's only 6 points. I thought Ron was smarter than this.

Keep your eye on Suarez. Now, that's a smart politician. And, brilliantly educated!

  8. @1:46...
After graduating from Dunedin High School in 1997, DeSantis attended Yale University. He was captain of Yale's varsity baseball team and joined the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.[5][6] On the Yale baseball team, DeSantis was an outfielder; as a senior in 2001, he had the team's best batting average at .336.[7][8] [9][10]

He graduated from Yale in 2001 with a B.A. magna cum laude in history.[11] He then spent a year as a history teacher at the Darlington School.[12] DeSantis then attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 2005 with a Juris Doctor cum laude.[13][14]

    Not too shabby, right anonymous?

  9. We are so lucky to have the most wonderful governor!

He will make a great President some day.

  10. So DeSantis went to a lib college. Proves my point that he's been indoctrinated just like the rest of the libs that go to college.

What are all those numbers after each sentence?

  11. The "out of control spending" by Democrats just funded Ron DeSantis' stimulus check to first responders that you and most everyone is cheering for, and rightly so.

So either you like "out of control spending" and don't know it or, maybe, just maybe, it's not out of control spending. It's going to worthwhile things and people.

    Something to consider.

  12. He might make a great president if he wins. I'm on your side; just strategizing. Why make a whole bunch of people hate you if you don't have to?

He does have an impressive resume, but so does Suarez. Suarez is Jesuit educated and attended FIU. Also, he is making friends, not enemies.

Our country is divided. Biden talked about uniting us, but that was just a talking point. He's too old, and doesn't have the charisma. At the risk of repeating myself, the more likeable one will win the next election.

Not that Suarez is running for President. I think it's a bit too soon to make that call.

  13. @4:16---OK, I think DeSantis is extremely likeable. And, he's done wonders for our state.

  14. @3:05--Absolutely NOTHING to consider here. Would you want our governor to give back the money that Biden is spending/allocating recklessly?

  15. @2:59...DeSantis went to Yale and Harvard way before these schools got a lot of communist professors.
    Are you really that silly?
And what do the numbers mean? That was from Wikipedia reference numbers.

  16. Yes, Lynn, Desantis is likeable and he's handsome, and he's smart; but he's alienating one-half of the population.

  17. 6:36... he along with any smart intelligent conservative will piss off Democrats. So, what’s new?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Do you want to win elections, or do you want to prove your point?

    ReplyDelete
  19. @7:34...as you are holding yourself out as an expert on winning elections, identify yourself and perhaps we can talk.

  20. @11:41...always a killjoy in the crowd. DeSantis doesn't have to dole out the bucks.

    ReplyDelete
  21. But he did, of course. And good on him. But at least say that Democrats were responsible for giving it to him so that he could hand it to police officers...because that's the truth.

  22. What I will say is that Biden is driving the greatest country down the tubes with unsustainable debt

  23. It's amazing to watch the party that voted against giving Capitol Police the Congressional Gold Medal for their Jan. 6 bravery claim to "back the blue."

They sure weren't backing the blue when they assaulted America's Capitol Building and battled the blue protecting the building and its congressional representatives.

And they sure don't back the blue when they smear the FBI at every chance they get for one thing or another.

    ReplyDelete
  24. First of all, only 12 Republicans voted against giving the Capitol Police the Medal because of the framing in the bill that referred to Jan. 6 rioters as a “mob of insurrectionists."

Trump supporters always back the Blue. These was a gang of activists that caused havoc there when in fact thousands of Trump supporters were at the capitol just to have a peaceful protest, something you Democrats describe as peaceful all of the time when BLM or Antifa is doing it, burning down cities, etc.

Many government agencies are corrupt especially the FBI and its bogus FISA warrant with James Comey and James Clapper with the NIA.

  25. 6:24 still beating the dead horse of January 6th, ignoring looting and burning of several cities and for what? A false narrative set up by Clinton and Pelosi.
