Lake Worth's Special Commission Meeting

The meeting was held last night at City Hall. I did not expect any people but they were there!...confused people for the most part. Those who were concerned referenced a letter they had received from the City regarding Storm Water and the increase. Some were under the impression that they were going to pay $78.25 a MONTH, not a year.

The City adopted the following:
  • Millage rate of 5.4945 mils; PB county's MSTU of 3.4581 mils or a total of 8.9576 mils. This represents a tax increase of 8.27%.
  • Adopted the 2019/2020 Budget of $164,184,603 for all city funds. This passed on a 3/2 vote with Maxwell and Hardy dissenting.
  • Adopted the Debt Service rate regarding the General Obligation Bond. We must cover debt service in the amount of $2,154,088. Millage rate is 1.1100 mils.
  • Adopted Storm Water fee of $78.25, up $2.65 from last year that appears on your tax bill
  • Adopted annual assessment for Refuse at $233.47 per residential unit.
  • Adopted administrative charge for services totaling $3,912,290
  • Adopted contribution from Enterprise Operations of $7,438,453

  1. What the hell is $3.9 million for administration services and where does this come from?

Does the contribution from the enterprise operations go toward paying the administration services?

Does this 8.27% rise in taxes help to pay for all those executive raises for staff and commissioners?

Has staff and the commission been using the bond money for a slush fund?

    Asking for a friend.

  2. All the commissioners voted for it so they must have the answers. The way I understand it is, these are charges that the city believes that certain departments spend for services for enterprise operations and special revenue funds. ??????????????? There are six funds here.

  3. 11:04 Turn in a FOIA (freedom of info Act)at the city clerks office and ask for a detailed accounting of where the money is going. Also-make a meeting with your Commissioner (stipulate that the city manager IS NOT to be at the meeting ) and ask for the answers. Demand the answers on PAPER.If they try to give you Bull crap and a huge bill for "staff hours" it's time to go to the State att office and/or the FBI.

  4. Waste your life chasing down this chicken feed. FOIA, I believe is only for federal requests. If you want a city to work for you for nothing, go live in another city. Try to find one first!

  5. Two commissioners voted against your budget, Mr. Bornstein. I believe anonymous above is asking for more detailed info. That's not unreasonable. There was no discussion on this.
Also, if residents were that confused about the storm water letter that was sent out by the city, is there any possibility that it was unclear?

  7. 4:36, you seem to have difficulty with nuance. I didn't say they were working for nothing. What I said, was that before you talk about these city commissioners being over paid, you should do a survey of similar size cities in a similar demographic area in a comparable economic location, and then you would know if you should move or not.
