State of the City

I have always had a problem with this---not the speech per se, as the mayor has always been a cheerleader for Lake Worth, but the date. It is always before our local elections which definitely, no doubt about it, gives an advantage to the incumbent running for re-election. In this case, the mayor's State of the City speech is two weeks before the election and will be nothing more than propaganda. It's like, "see how great we are...why would you even think about voting for anyone else?"

The other peeve I have is the saying "moving the city forward" that this present commission tosses out like candy. Hey guys, it has no where else to go but forward. There may not be any improvements in the slum, blight, crime (unless you believe PBSO stats) and illegal alien situation but changing the name of our city, selling 501 Lake Avenue, and yanking out our pool to spend small fortunes is not "moving anything forward." All that will do is get the property owners deeper in debt or using some else's money (the taxpayer), something politicians love to do.

Commissioner Maxwell can complain about Herman or Omari bringing up objections or a point by accusing them of being "political," but that charge could apply at any time of year and if true, nothing would ever get done but continue on as "business as usual."  Don't buck the system says the Trio.

The State of the City needs to be given AFTER the election to make it a fair playing field.

  1. I agree ,Lynn. State of the city AFTER the election. No more behind closed door BS sessions before the meeting. EVERY meeting between elected officials and the city manager recorded and available to the public.

  2. I agree it is wrong and using her power in office to influence without having to pay anything to do so. The mayor of SPB kind of did the same thing by sending a letter about the status of the beach restoration just prior to her re-election too. Sometimes you have to wonder about these people and their motives and how they use their office and city resources to their advantage to get re-elected or help others. Pam is a smooth operator, it is very obvious over the years. She also has not been very nice to many people and have treated people very poorly in the chambers during meetings. Maybe that is why God is not letting her house be sold. She just changed realtors again, couldn't sell it, has tried for years, even put in a pool, lowered the price substantially, and still cannot sell that house. Maybe it is all karma for her. You have to wonder and question everything from these elected today. They reap what they sow often times. Karma I guess!
