Dr. Elvis Epps
Principal of Lake Worth Community High School
"It's not a job; it's a mission."
Dr. Epps has his hands full. There are so many students who do not speak English or live in homes where English is their second language. The majority of the students are black and Hispanic at 87%. 75% of the approximate 2,500 students are eligible for the free lunch.
Yipee!!!! I get to correct your spelling!!! Thai almost NEVER happens!!!
ReplyDelete"English is THEIR second language"
Sorry Lynn. I am always amazed that you never misspell anything. This shall prove that you ARE human.
LOL--I need an editor--
ReplyDeleteThanks.
To err is human or something like that. Was there ever a doubt? :)
It was actually a pretty sickening revelation that we have kids sitting in our class rooms that don't even speak the language. How can teachers even teach in that atmosphere? They can't . Students should not be allowed into the class room until they can keep up . And most of them shouldn't even be in our country. I hope ice goes door to door in Lake Worth and arrests every illegal. Then maybe our poor American kids could get the resources and help that they should be getting.
ReplyDeleteThe immigrants are here. We have to deal with it just like our parents and grand parents had to deal with the influx of Italians, Irish, Germans and Cubans.
ReplyDeleteMany of the first generation immigrants didn't speak English and the children learned in our schools. Some taught their parents enough to get by but many never learned to speak English..... but their children did.
Guess what..... Those who were fortunate enough back then to have been born here didn't like "all the foreigners" who didn't even speak English coming here, taking our jobs, working for less, destroying our neighborhoods and our heritage.
Sound familiar?
Thank God ANYONE born in the USA is automatically a citizen of the USA. Think of the sacrifice the parents have made to endure the prejudice and difficulty of being unwanted in a new and strange country for their children to have a chance at an American standard of living. We should be proud that we are looked at as the beacon of light around the globe and thank God every second we breathe the air of freedom. There but for the grace of God go I.
Sounds wonderful. The fact of the matter is, when immigrants came through Ellis Island, there were about 76 million in the U.S. Now we have over 320 million. Different times. Different circumstances. No terrorists then either. We can't house the entire world.
