Gov Scott signs Condo Reform bill

Governor Rick Scott signed the CONDO REFORM BILL (aka CONDO CRIME BILL) into law, effective July 1, 2017. That's a big win for Florida's condo owners! Florida's community associations are riddled with crime, kick-backs and self-serving board members. The State attorneys of many Florida counties took the approach to criminal behavior stating that it's a "CIVIL" matter since associations were created by contract law. Now they have it "black on white" that it's a crime and needs to be prosecuted.

On the other hand the Governor vetoed condo bill H 653, a deal mainly dealing with provisions regarding the retro-fitting of high-rise buildings with sprinkler-systems. Definitely a major disappointment for many condo owners. But considering that many of these buildings are occupied by elderly folks, safety of the occupants should be more important than the finances. Let's face it: The dates for retro-fitting condo high-rises with sprinkler-systems was already causing hot debates at a time when Jeb Bush was still Florida's governor. I don't think there will ever be a solution that will make everybody happy! [Cyber Citizens for Justice, Inc,]
