Volunteers needed to save our Oaks from exotic pest plants

Lake Worth Exotic Pest Plant Removal to take place at--
17th Avenue North Natural Area on Saturday March 18, 2017

The Lake Worth City Tree Board will hold an Exotic Pest Plant Removal at the 17th Avenue North Natural Area, 1759 17th Avenue North 33460, on Saturday morning March 18th from 8 to 11.

Exotic pest plants are crowding out native understory beneath beautiful Southern Live Oaks that dominate the City-owned open space. Volunteers are needed to help remove these invasive plants.

Overseeing this Saturday’s exotic plant and tree removal event will be:

• Christen Mason, Chair of the Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council and invasive species biologist at the South Florida Water Management District
• Kristi Moyer M.Ed., Land Manager and Fellowship Instructor at Pine Jog Environmental Education Center
• Susan Mason, certified arborist, Broward County Parks Environmental Maintenance Supervisor and former City Tree Board member • David McGrew, City of Lake Worth Arborist andTree Board staff advisor This is a great opportunity to learn to identify and remove Florida Exotic Pest Plants and help improve the Natural Area.

Gloves and other tools will be provided. You may bring your own tools, including loppers, and other cutters, but NO machetes please.

The Lake Worth City Tree Board is a volunteer advisory board comprised of city residents appointed by the Mayor and City Commissioners. The City Tree Board advises the City Commission on policy. Members of the public are encouraged to attend Tree Board meetings on the second Thursday of each month 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room.
