Quote of the Day - Andy Amoroso

“Recovery in a downtown entertainment business district where there is alcohol should not be. It’s not conducive to what recovery is.”

~ Andy Amoroso

Talking about the new community center that will offer a safe space for recovering addicts who want to develop their artistic ability and entrepreneurial skills.

Read about it...

Let's face it--Amoroso is a declared atheist. He doesn't believe in anything the Common Ground Church does to help addicts to turn around their lives and be productive citizens. He just doesn't believe in church or the good that they do.

Drugs are in our downtown so why not a place where these people can go who are kicking their habit and want nothing more than to be productive once again, a place that will be drug free serving nothing but coffee. Does it matter that it will be across from a nightclub? Will a nightclub that sells booze where people love to go and get a buzz be a bad influence on these people? It's possible that a small minority might slip but the Common Ground Church will be there to help them all.

This community center will not negatively impact our community any more than any other business in our downtown.

Their grand opening is April 8 at 3pm, 21 S J. Street, Lake Worth, FL

  1. A safe place for addicts would be somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. The rugged lifestyle might help them come to grips with reality, and if not, there is always the option to overdose. The idea that you would send someone to South Florida with an addiction problem is something that could only have been thought up by an unrealistic dreamer, or a clever thief.

  2. We're not talking about Sober Homes here. There are addicts and recovering addicts all over the country.

  3. Lynn, you may think that you are a clear-eyed rational conservative, but at heart, you're an incurable optimist.

  6. Who in the hell is Amoroso to say what comes or goes in our downtown? This is the guy who tried to have a church shut down and now a recovery center???? I guess in Andy's town we only say yes to drug use and depravity. If a recovering addict becomes one less addict that is doing drugs, why dooes that offend Ammoroso? Haven't taken the pledge yet ,Baltazar?

  7. Maybe our "new" commission has fingers in the "Sober" houses, we walked on our fine beach yesterday evening and saw suspicious activity and two bad pit bulls being paraded, hyper at the smell and sight of small dogs and wet children.
