Can Dog Hunting ever be ethical?
This week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is having their meeting that will be held over two days in Crystal River on February 8-9. This meeting is on rules changes. One important change will be the use of dogs in the hunt for small animals on Florida owned land. Right now, anyone who wishes to hunt on private land with a dog must gain permission from the landowner. On private land, hunters may use free running dogs throughout the year to chase rabbit, raccoon, opossum, skunk, nutria, beaver, coyote, hog, fox and bobcat.
While Florida still allows dog-hunting throughout much of the state, even the Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC) has had to bend to the will of dog-hunting opponents in recent years. The culture is changing as to what people feel is ethical and that's why the public will be at this meeting to speak against dog hunting.
Drew Martin will be attending the Thursday meeting to speak against the use of dogs because he believes that the expanded use of hunting dogs is detrimental to human and wildlife safety.
Dog hunting is not sport; it is murder. The animal has no chance to survive a pack of dogs to then be terrorized and killed by a hunter who loves the thrill of blood.
That looks like a famous painting, and I think they are foxhounds. These things are embedded in some cultures, and I doubt if anything we can do will stop the practice. What about the falcons hunting small game. If you're a rabbit, it hurts just as much. What I think is curious, is that while we are all (myself included) sensitive to the plight of animals, we hardly pay any attention to the terrible condition that children are living under. Worse than that, we have no control over DCF and the horrible job they do placing foster children. At least with animals we have Peggy Adams, Big Dog Ranch, and others that we know and trust.
ReplyDeleteI just wish people would stop bringing dogs to the beach here. I love dogs and all animals, but I agree with the law and it says no dogs at the city, county, and Town of Palm Beach beaches, yet daily people bring their dogs walk right by the signs and have no regard for rules and laws. I am fed up with careless dog owners bringing all their dogs on the beach here where we live. Too, the police never enforce this law. Their enforcement would help, I wish they would, they wonder why the public loses respect for them and these careless dog owners. Dogs are wonderful, they are not problem it is their careless owners and lack of enforcement of our police here.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if what you just said is true about the NRA but if you are saying that only Republicans hunt, you are full of it.
ReplyDelete12/12-you sound like a kvetch! You know very well that people are beyond any sense of decency or law and order. Since you like dogs, just be glad they are good to the dogs. Better you should inquire who's job it is to clean up the beach. At least it's a job for somebody.
ReplyDeleteSounds like another idiot that doesn't think people should abide by laws or rules. God I hope Trump can restore some law and order in this country otherwise we'll have the majority of people in the USA who think this way!

So 5:47PM what you are saying is we should all accept mediocrity here?
ReplyDeleteYou can, but not all of us want to!
"Better you should inquire who's job it is to clean up the beach. At least it's a job for somebody."
ReplyDeleteWho is this dork? There is already someone who does this daily on the beach.
" Since you like dogs, just be glad they are good to the dogs."
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this is the same people who bring their white lab everyday in their red range rover pass all the NO DOG signs entering the beach, park in Kruesler park without paying and bring their dog on the beach every morning at 8am with no regard for laws or rules?
The same people who dislike a kvetch or complainer is the same one who has no regard for any rules or laws likely. Excuses excuses, anything goes, God forbid someone points out that very few stop at a right on red before they turn. And then we want to know why we have so many problems in our society! It is OK to be a bully blogger too, right Wes?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone get a hunting or fishing license anymore? People just do what they want to nowadays, who cares if their are any rules or laws right? As long as you are smiling and being nice to your grandmother, right?
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons Lake Worth is failing, is because people like you think human nature is going to change because you want a clean beach. People are basically low class pigs, and if you think the police can change that, then you better build a few new jails to house the people who liter and don't clean up after their dogs. How stupid can you get? I don't know how old you are, but it's been a long time since people have cleaned up after themselves. Maybe we should have public executions on the beach. That would get some dog walkers attention! It's kind of like Humpty Dumpty; All the Kings Horses...............If it really bothers you that much, go and clean it up yourself, and then at least you would have moral rectitude on your side.
