Political thinker Rosie O'Donnell wants martial law declared


There are several problems with this statement. First, there are no charges against Trump. Second, martial law has not been declared in the United States since the Civil War. When it has been declared, it’s sometimes been declared for reasons Rosie O’Donnell wouldn’t like (say, for example, Governor Patterson of Alabama declaring martial law in his state in 1961 to fight freedom riders he called “outside agitators”). Martial law means that the president can essentially overrule the legal process – and yet O’Donnell thinks this is a great way of fighting authoritarianism.
