Lake Worth wants to spend $860k on FREE Wi-fi for poor people and to attract business.
In today's opinion piece in the Palm Beach Post, it was obviously written by someone who believes in free stuff as long as the taxpayer is paying for it. The Post says free wi-fi is a matter of social justice. B.S.
The CRA estimates covering the entire city with free Wi-Fi would cost about $860,000,
with the city taxpayers paying the biggest part or over $640,000 and the CRA adding the remaining
$220,000 according to the Palm Beach Post's opinion piece today.
The Post further states that since city residents who live in a city with a 32% poverty rate just passed a $40 million bond issue for extensive road repairs (29% of the roads...is that extensive?), they believe that this would be the perfect time to lay fiber optic cables. It further says, "We have the means. It's time that all our residents can get on the information superhighway."
They believe this is some sort of civic right to spend $860,000 for the unfortunate who can't afford the Internet in one of the poorest cities in Palm Beach County. They believe that using bond money for free Wi-Fi costing nearly one million big buckaroos is the right thing to do. Obviously, so does the CRA.
Get real.
I thought something like this would happen. Give them a lot of money and immediately they have holes in their pockets. Maxwell is behind this one.

ReplyDeleteSomeone was telling me this at the coffee shop, and I tried not to hear it. So what does that mean to the people who are paying for Uverse or some other ISP? They already have free internet service at the library, do they want it to be served to them in bed with a croissant? It just gets curiouser and curiouser.
