One Lake Worth commissioner, Christopher McVoy, (he wore one of our t-shirts) and one County commissioner, Shelley Vana, attended the ground-breaking ceremony this morning at the Mounds Circle. A small tent was set up with chairs for the public. Ms. Vana spoke as well as Diane Sauve, Director of the Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control. Many people were from the Parks and Recreation Department.
About a dozen members from our John Prince Park Preservation Facebook page and friends were there with t-shirts and signs. We were there in support of the dog park but also there to silently protest any corporation bulldozing any square inch of our park. The PBSO was not going to allow us in but eventually relented.
Shelly Vana, the people's representative, called us all "idiots." Shelley Vana told me that it was inappropriate that we were there. Then the conversation went from dogs to beach. She accused me of never thanking her for the beach. When I asked her what she was talking about she said that it was she that got the bond money for our beach. I then made a statement that it took us six years to get the money. (I mean think about this folks, we were paying on the recreation bond for years on our county taxes with NO results...it was our designated money). She then pointed her finger at me and told me, "That was your fault."

Drew Martin running for Shelley Vana's seat on the Palm Beach County Commission.
Our right to free speech was first denied and then a commissioner now running for Property Appraiser called us idiots. Is that bizarre or what?
This was unbelievable that we have rallied for the dog park this whole time and a county commissioner tried to use PBSO Deputies to keep out people supporting the dog park. So what if we were wearing t-shirts?
ReplyDeleteI hope that Bradshaw comes out and speaks out against Vana for using his deputies is such a deplorable way.
Shelly won't get my vote.
ReplyDeleteShelley Vana did a ground breaking right before the primary. This was for a photo op, politics. And by showing up in shirts and holding signs against the Atlanta Braves, something she is pushing, clearly did not fit into her agenda or public persona that she was trying to project today.
ReplyDeleteI guess after reading RW post on FB maybe SHE was right. This is not the right time, or place. Wear your tee-shirts to city hall, evening on the Avenues. Or everyday of the week if you like. Who cares. I am foe the Braves. And as far as a photo op, I am sure if Ms. Menge was still publishing this would make the Front Page.
ReplyDeleteThat us where your uneducated on the issue anon (afraid to post your own name) this is not a Lake Worth issue but a County Issue and this was the right time.
DeleteI would never vote for that B for another political office here in FL or USA, she is nasty, not representing the well of the constituents, she is in the pockets of big business and $!
ReplyDeleteThis is a public event and the public has a right to attend even if the elected official doesn't agree with their t-shirts. They did not disturb the event, many are in favor of the dog park and simply want the park to remain as a park. Attending an official event at the park with signs or tshirts regarding the Braves Stadium makes perfect sense.
ReplyDeleteIn order to be a successful politician you have to be a very good liar.
ReplyDeleteShe was lying when she called you idiots and trying to get you to believe her lie.
She and Maxwell are too interested in giving the Braves John Prince Park
for any reasonable person to doubt that there is no financial reward promised to them.
You would be an idiot if you believed in their innocence.
Thin skinned a little? So you can dish it out but you can't take it, right?
ReplyDeleteSuck it up, Lynn. You gonna play in the Big Leagues you can't be a whiner. Put your big girl pants on or stay home.
" The PBSO was not going to allow us in but eventually relented."
ReplyDeleteI know you follow this blog PBSO,so WTF?????
You guys wear green shirts, not BROWN shirts. Are you as embarrassed at your actions as Ric Bradshaw should be ? His people being co-opted into the private henchmen of Shelley Vana instead of the public servants that they are? Remember your motto "To Protect and Serve". Maybe you PBSO need a lesson in just who it is that you are supposed to be serving and protecting. next time anybody happens to actually see a PBSO around, hand them a copy of the Constitution.
@9:23--nothing thin skinned about me. I just write about the arrogance and abusiveness of elected officials...stand up to it. More than you do as an anonymous attacker. Grow a set yourself.
ReplyDeleteI was just told by an attendee that was stopped by a reporter yesterday at the groundbreaking ceremony who was told that they expected a big demonstration. She laughed and said, what demonstration? That is why there were 10 cop cars out there ready to keep the little people in their place. Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteNow I wonder who over-reacted to free expression?
Just illustrates the hysteria in this county/ town full of hyperviligant, desperate and ignorant folks.
ReplyDeleteAnd you have to ask yourself, why the "hysteria?" They know they are wrong.
