The county has told us that this is for the dog park ($2 million) and an upgrade to the high voltage distribution replacement at the Campground ($1.3 million). We have contacted the county administrator, Verdenia Baker, to verify. At this time, we have not heard back.
So, we have no choice but to Trust but Verify and we will continue to try and get an answer from the county on all of this work of late: Removing aged trees; upgrades of electricity and clearing of land. Rumor has it that the work is in preparation of the Atlanta Braves and the county is expecting to pay for their $110 million stadium with some of the one penny sales tax to be voted in by the electorate. Hal Valeche is on the record saying that the sales tax will not be used for the Braves.
Of course they are going to say this is not for the Braves--right up until they get their tax increase. Then magically don't you know WHOOPS! It will suddenly have become imperative that they build them a stadium. Look at what is going on: jets trying to make their entry into Lantana airport with a test case of a 75 year old who lives in a condo; clearing land, upgrading electric which a worker says is "for the Braves", and suddenly at the same time massive rebuilding of the 6th Ave Bridge entering JPP. Bloomberg business journal cites many examples of the Braves entering towns commensurate with a 1 cent tax increase. And they want us to believe all this is "just coincidence"??
ReplyDeleteI believe their actions far more than and denials they try to make. And I adamantly refuse to support any tax increase to destroy half of John Prince Park-one of our greatest assets, to stick us with another humongous bill of $110-250 MILLION dollars. How can they justify this insanity when they won't even fix our crumbling roads??
It just like Bloomberg says: The Braves play cities better than they play baseball. And Maxwell is doing everything possible to get his greedy little dirty hands on that million dollar finder's fee. It's another boondogle sold to the voters for special interests behind closed doors.
It's shocking that a county official would not respond to the biggest group of malcontent do nothings in Palm Beach County. Your reputations must have preceded you.
ReplyDeleteThat's was funny
DeleteIt's not shocking when you consider they're all in bed together...probably playing footsie with Scott Maxwell. :)
ReplyDeleteBut another thing not shocking is your comment--just another greedy person who cares nothing about the environment it seems...jsut corporate welfare?
They have said the work is for the dog park, I can't imagine that they would turn around and do something different, but who knows these days. I never get a response from the City or the County so good luck with your efforts to find out what is going on.
