As I was unable to attend today's meeting between the Union employee negotiating committee for the PMSA and PEU union contracts and City staff, I just received the following results:
1. Tentative Agreement reached
2. Pension is a separate agreement from raise
3. 4% raise is retroactive from October 1, 2015.
I am rather confident that our city attorney, Glen Torcivia, had a lot to do with moving this issue forward to an acceptable agreement with the employees. This team of employees was very impressive as was employee Nicholas Petrino who stood up, was steadfast, and convinced the city.
We are very pleased with this contractual agreement that was enter in with the City and we well have no problem in getting this agreement ratify. This is the type of platform we can build on to improve employees relationships. WE supported the City during hard times and our professionalism and pride will always be in our service we give to Lake Worth residents.
ReplyDeleteOur pension will be our next issued and we look forward with hight hope that we will be able to understand each other and trust each other while also being creative in solving our shared problem.
Great start and hopefully the following pension discussions can be handled as professionally as the meeting was handled today.
ReplyDeleteFirst step towards a resolution was great now just please keep those before 2010 in their pension.
ReplyDeleteHorray!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood job. I still feel that it is no contest. The employees that were under the old pension plan should be grandfathered in. According to law, Grandfathering in is a provision when and old rule continues to apply to existing situations whereas a new rule should apply to new situations. Those before 2010 should be grandfathered in.
ReplyDeleteWe are very pleased with Mr. Torcivia and his overall attitude in moving towards a fair compromise for all addendum articles separate from the Pension. I support the New Agreed Contract separate from the Pension.
ReplyDeleteI hope when the Pension Negotation takes place both the City & Union agree to keep all the Pre 2010 Employees in their contracted 20 to Collect Pension. For as some of us would have made different life choices if we knew our Pension would have been altered. I know I would have. It will be a monumental leap of compassion if the City leads negotation by recognizing we cannot backdate our lives therefore allowing us to keep our earned benefits, as is, is the honorable decision. Understandably, a Post 2010 Contract must be long term sustainable for the City and inspire a career atmosphere of employment. I am hopeful the City heard our plea and will not allow our years of service to discarded in vein. Thank you Lynn for speaking alongside me at the Commision Meeting and creating a platform for discussion in your Blog.
Great news now lets see the result of the pension convo
ReplyDeleteIts nice Mr. Petrino is fighting for what he feels is right but its sad no one else has stood up outta his co workers. Its like they all want what hes fighting for but no one wants put their name on the line. Instead they all just want to piggy back off him... Kinda pathetic if you ask me. Its nice to see their is at least one stand up person still around.
ReplyDeleteGO NICK! Professional as can be =)
ReplyDeleteGrandfathering those in is the only way to move forward positively
ReplyDeleteI love following this, exciting to see if ldub keeps their word.
ReplyDelete@ lovemycity: You have a good point hell id say just give it to Nick. Seems like hes the only one with a backbone, let the others eat crap!
ReplyDeleteNicholas, you are very welcome.
ReplyDeleteYou just got over one hurdle.
This is a negotiating tactic...they gave you all something. Now they will expect you all to give them something back. But you were promised the raise anyway and it was already budgeted but...
it will now be used as leverage now to get what they want.
Hope Sam has a plan.
Lynn,
DeleteIf the City is actually treading on dishonorable grounds by a give a little take alot attitude, then their lack of intregity will come out. With all the publicity surrounding the Pension Issue it would be impossible to hide the discussion and outcome within the confines of City Hall. Over the years I have seen a fair share of unjust actions taken against my fellow employees. I cannot truthfully say I wouldnt expect a sly of cards but im hoping on hope that the times have changed. A time where the employees are once again valued. The Pension Decision will either symbolize a New Positive Era or solidify the Negativity that has plagued the morale of the Employees. What happens next is in the City's hands.
Hopefully they show good faith and allow those in it to keep their pensions. Its very clear what is wrong and right. Time will tell. Are ya gonna go to the next nego Lynn?
ReplyDeleteA raise is nothing compared to my pension. I wouldnt stillbe here if it wasnt for that. Nicks right though what they choose to do will be the true face of LW
ReplyDeleteIf the union caves shame on them! Like how can it be cool for the employees representatives to agree that its alright to not grandfather them in?
ReplyDeleteJust be fair Lake Worth No Tricks this is your moment to shine!!!
ReplyDeleteNicholas has lead the fight. kudos to him. Keep truggin along buddy. The rest of your peers are cowards huggin your coat tails so ya know what keep nose clean, head held high n your back strong cuz leaders always take the brunt of the battle.
ReplyDeleteIts nice to read Mr. peterino say they appear to be working together. Lets just hope its not a sly tactic like Ms. anderson said.
ReplyDeleteYah we finally get our raise aftee 8 years of nothing then 7 months of bickering! Pitiful!
ReplyDeleteNicholas--It's called "negotiation."
ReplyDeleteYou want it. The city says they can't afford it. They have to convince you to "give it up." That does not seem likely. Even if they put all of their cards on the table, the Committee would be against it. Am I wrong in saying that at least at this point?
When is the next meeting? I need to mark it down on my calendar.
Theres nothing they could possibly offer to convince me to give up my promised Pension. Ive come to far to let everything slip away, 10 years is a long time. Even a one time 25% raise wouldnt cut it. I cannot speak for how the Union will handle Negotiations, but we all hope they stand firm on keeping our contracts as is. The Union is open to compromising with the City based on their financial projections for a New Post 2010 Pension Plan. I believe the Negotiations will be scheduled for mid May but once I find out a date / time I will send it you.
DeleteHas anyone seen the job board posted in human resources? Its over flowing with positions. Lw cant even get ppl to apply... Not good Lw
ReplyDeleteKevin D. Thompson's article came out today but it was details from the meeting before last:

Good article. I wil be praying for a fair resolution.
ReplyDeletejust leave all the ones before 2010 in what they have and stop all this drama! or do we need Trump to step in and fix lake worth already.
ReplyDeletewow, just from reading the new article it appears Nicholas is in it to win it! Now will someone tell me why he isn't the spokesperson for the entire City? Very intelligent man.
ReplyDeleteLove his quotes. So true.
ReplyDeleteWill the city just do the right thing? Mr. Petrino is right though everyone cant change their past so the city shouldn't be trying to take away their future.
ReplyDeleteWe have to remain optimistic I believed in the end things will work out when we enter pension talk. We will need to look into all possible avenue and work with the City finding the best solution to grandfather in those people that meet the 20 years pension cut off date.
ReplyDeleteI believe The City still have people in management that care about the City and understand the value of retaining long-term employees.
The right thing to do is keep all those before 2010 in their original contracts and all after are on a new plan. Just like Nick said its wrong to backdate peoples lives. If they change it in anyway or put a age on it thats wrong.
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to sound pessimistic but what do you think that this long, drawn-out process has been about? Do you think that they will roll over and play dead now after giving you two major parts of what you wanted? Unless they know they can't win this in court, you have a battle on your hands, IMO. I just can't believe they would give-in that easily. It's nice to hope for though. Legally, can they do this if you don't agree to it?
ReplyDeleteLynn, we know that we are dealing with some unscipelous carectors but we also realized that we cannot keepon witching the snake and forgetting the scorpions.
DeleteThe city cannot legally force a contract without Union ratification then a employee vote. I don't really understand what the big deal is... its RIGHT IN THE OPEN what the honest thing to do is. It crazy its up for debate. Honor the minuscule amount of pre 2010 employees left here and move forward. This whole situation is taxing. =/
ReplyDeleteI agree to just do the right thing then move on.
ReplyDeleteIf Lake Worth City opens the meeting with we will honor contracts for all the ones earlier than 2010 im sure the Union will be able to agree on the whole pension that day. come on city!
