Dollars for Scholars Lake Worth

Thursday night, May 5th, is the date so mark your calendar for the 17th year for Dollars for Scholars.

A total of $67,000 in scholarships will be given to the Class of 2016 in a ceremony in the school auditorium. This brings the grand total to $970,000 since their first year, 1999, when they awarded $10,000. This fund was set up by former graduates and Dave Cantley, past principal at Lake Worth, who have a deep love and commitment to Lake Worth High and education.

Forty students will receive $53,500 from the general Dollars for Scholars account, five students will receive a total of $10,000 from the Grunow Memorial Scholarship Fund named for Barry Grunow, the Lake Worth Middle School teacher who was murdered in his classroom on the last day of school in 2000.

This year, for the first time, two vocational scholarships will be awarded for a total of $3,500. Dollars of Scholars hopes to encourage more vocational applicants in future years. Our parent organization, The Lake Worth High School Alumni Foundation, pays all our overhead expenses. This ensures that every dollar donated to or raised by Dollars for Scholars goes toward a scholarship for a financially needy student.
